On Saturday June 17, 2023 at approx. 0930 am I went to Smog and Go at 6100 Stanford Ranch Rd, Rocklin, CA 95765 I have been going to this same SMOG and GO now for over 17 years with various vehicles and only rarely had a problem. That is until this visit, and it will be my last I arrived with my 2008 Jeep which had a pedal commander installed and attached to my vehicle. Upon my arrival, I gave my cell number and asked that I be called as I was going to walk my dog while this was being done. After about 45 minutes of walking my dog, I returned to the Smog and Go location and there sat my jeep, I never was called. Upon my arrival, the young lady that initially took my information and keys, stated that my PEDAL COMMANDER had to be removed and the technician refused to smog it until it was removed. I went home, looked up the article and supporting documents which indicated that the PEDAL COMMANDER is totally acceptable by California Air Resources Board (CARB) and in fact increased performance and was acceptable and legal. I returned with this information and was again told I would have to remove it and place the vehicle in a position without the PEDAL COMMANDER to be tested. The technician then stated that the pedal commander was illegal. I asked for documentation he was using to confer, and he then printed and presented a document that attempted to satisfy his point of view. Furthermore, I was informed that the technician could not find OBD2 plug for testing, by the young woman working at the counter. Frustrated, I indicated that it was exactly where it should be, under the dash of the jeep adjacent to the clutch pedal. I then went to my home, disassembled the dash cover under the steering wheel, disconnected the plug from the pedal commander and returned the jeep to its original configuration. I left the pedal commander on the dash, not connected not interfering, not being used and for the third time, returned to the Smog and Go at 6100 Stanford Ranch Rd, Rocklin, CA 95765 I arrived believing this would be the end of this silliness, but no, there was more to come. The technician, obviously frustrated, then stated that I needed to remove (as in take it completely out of the vehicle and remove it from view before he would test the vehicle. I informed him that this personal vendetta / believe / attitude of his was totally illegal and that this was not in accordance with regulations. The pedal commander was disconnected and sitting on the dash of the jeep. I needed to do nothing more than this. The young woman interjected and stated that they represent the CARB and that this is who they work for. The tech / manager and the young lady were quite adamant about this, and I finally asked for their names and a business card. I fully intended to deal with this in other means. The young lady clearly and without hesitation stated, we don't have to legally give you our names, we don't have to tell you anything. I even went out to the jeep and removed the PEDAL COMMANDER from the jeep and had it in my hands...and would have dealt with if. But after being told, they did not have to give me their names ....I finally had had enough. At that time, I stated never mind, I will go elsewhere to get my vehicle serviced as this type of treatment was total BS. It is to be noted that I then returned home, irritated beyond belief and looked up another smog station and found SMOG GENIE. Similar coupon, similar distance. Excellent service, useable restroom (SMOG AND GO refused to allow anyone to use the restroom, on previous occasion I was told I could go across the way to Jiffy Lube if I needed to use the restroom on a previous visit with one of my 7 vehicles) Smog Genie staff were receptive, organized and spot on what I would expect from a professional business. The place was dingy and dirty and the bathroom a mess. Ick. Oh and they left my lights on and didn't put the seat or steering wheel back like they got it. Not a huge deal but unprofessional. I went here to smog my 1998 Toyota T100. It failed the 1st go around and I was told why and to return for a free retest after completing repairs. I completed the proper repairs and returned for the retest and one of the emissions monitors would not clear on the truck's computer. I was told to continue driving the truck and it would eventually clear. I am not experienced so I did this, continuously, and returned for 12 weeks in a row. Yes, I'm a slow learner. Eventually I figured out these people don't know what they're doing and took it to a shop that does. He told me the monitor that was on doesn't keep the truck from smogging, it just lowers Smog n Go's score with the state if they pass my truck while that monitor is on. He put my truck on the machine and passed it in 20 minutes. Just like that. Smog n Go wasted my time, gas and money for 12 WEEKS because they are more concerned about some state score than their customer. PATHETIC! Where I'm from the customer comes first. I will never go back to Smog n Go. read more

These guys are normally really good and really fast. However, when I took my ford here to get it smog checked the technician didn't do his job correctly and caused me to miss 2 hours of work to come in this morning. I do drive out of my way to go to this Smog Check location because they are usually quick and thorough. ( I was just here a few days ago for my Toyota Echo which was awesome, it took only 15 minutes). Story: I had to replace the hood on this vehical. I found one from pick and pull and the old car must have had a 4.6L V8. My Ford has a 4.0L V6. I did this about 8 months ago. The check engine light came on a few weeks ago and the code said I need a new Catalytic converter. I took it to a shop in Citrus Heights where they did an awesome job. Upon seeing the information on the invalid hood's sticker, the technician told me I had to take it back to the shop and have them put the right Catalytic converter on the truck. I told the technician it was a 4.0L V6 not a 4.6L. He didn't believe me, and he would not check the VIN or the top of the Intake Manifold, both proving the engine falls in the 4.0L V6 engine family, which the Catalytic converter was made for. The intake manifold in huge engraved print says 4.0L. I was told to go to Ford and request a new Emissions label for my hood. I called them and was informed it was unlikely to have a sticker from that far back (2003) but they would get back to me. The earliest I could get the sticker if it still exists is by mid December, and it would cost $29.99 plus tax and shipping. I have received no response from Ford. I scraped the sticker off the hood and took the truck back in. They tested it again, and it passed again, and this time the technician had to look up the vehicles information. What do you know, they found it it is actually a 4.0L V6. I confronted the technitian telling him he wasted my time and could have done this Wednesday. The fact is, he either didn't know he could look up the VIN, or didn't want to. I assume it was the latter. Section 1.3.1 of his own manual http://smogcheck.ca.gov/pdf/Smog_Check_Manual_ENG_2013.pdf states that the technitian is to use the label under the hood, but is required also to use all available resources to determine the engine type. This technician, i think out of laziness, did not check this and caused me to lose two hours of work. SmogNGo in Rocklin CA is a great company, but if they continue to hire individuals like this who will not take time to resolve a customers justified concern, they will lose business. read more

I've consistently brought 15+ year old vehicles, and always passed first time. That being said, this seems to be an above board shop, so please don't try to ruin it by trying to bribe the mechanic to pass a gross polluter. A couple tips, print the coupon, check in on yelp, or simply ask for the $10 coupon.
