If you have an older vehicle, DON'T go here. I have a 25-year-old truck that I keep in top shape. Being that old it has been professionally serviced and through time received a new "Midas" exhaust system ten years ago. James Nicholson was my technician, he seemed friendly enough but insisted he could not see the numbers on my catalytic converter. Failed my truck even though it passed functional and emissions tests. No modifications have been made and as proof it passed last year. Mr. Nicholson even used the scathing term "Tampered" in the analysis. I insisted he show me what he was talking about. With a flashlight and mirror we crawled under the truck (no lifts). Took me a while since I don't know where the numbers are supposed to be, but I found them. He insisted he and his colleague could not see them and refused to take a second look so I could show him. He insisted I call the BAP Referee or go to a muffler shop, not considering my time or added cost. All he had to do was take another look so I could show him what I saw. Sure, I am old and cranky, but what ever happened to "Customer Service" and the old adage that the "Customer is always right"? I am also hard of hearing, so maybe I missed something, my apologies if that's the case. But then they started accusing me of being rude and a jerk. That was uncalled for! Service providers are supposed to get training in dealing with cranky old farts like me! You don't accuse people of being rude, it just makes things worse, like throwing gasoline on a fire! People are not "happy" when they fail a smog check let alone being accused of scraping off numbers or tampering with the equipment! These people need to check their egos at the door when they come to work! read more

Shocked to hear about everyone in and out so quick - i had the exact opposite experience. Waste of time, twice in the same evening - joke was on me. Got to the business, dusk outside and no open sign or anything indicating the business was excepting new jobs. Given the holiday season (12/27) i thought they might have closed early. So, i parked, walked in and stood at the counter. It was only 10 before i saw a young man wrapping up a car, a tech playing on his phone and another surfing the internet in the service shop, apparently looking at picture of what looked like a hunting site. After being ignored and shocked about the lack of someone even acknowledging me i thought i would go elsewhere. This is where i messed up. I saw a car leave (the one they were working on) so i grabbed my papers and thought, hey - give them a second chance, they must be available now. So i walked back in, and yes stood there again for another 5+ minutes and didn't know where everyone went. Heres a hint, i found them - They stand behind the shop where they cant see their paying customers. Just hang out with the car doors open like a tail gate party and use binoculars to watch planes flying over. Couldn't make it up if i tried. If you a lucky enough to get service, you should feel blessed. Will not make a third trip and it makes me sad as i love to try and support small businesses. Smog and got me in and out within 12 minutes. They also do all the DMV paperwork for renewals which saves me a trip and a long wait. The gentleman that worked on my truck was very polite and explained everything to me in great detail. This was definitely an awesome experience for me from my previous smog checks. The great atmosphere at the shop was also a big plus. The guys were joking with each other it looked like they were happy to be at work and loved what they were doing. This to me is very important knowing that the people doing work on my vehicle are enjoying it. You know that experience when you hire someone to do something for you and then you get the cold shoulder from them as if they are upset you called. Love the convenience of Smog 'N Go stations. I used to go to the one in Elk Grove and now this Rocklin location is closer. Love the quick service and the $10 coupons. You can probably get a smog check cheaper elsewhere but I like not having to search for random locations, but to stick with the same company. They take care of your paperwork and send smog certifications directly to DMV. Smog checks usually take 20-30 minutes and they're always prompt and polite. read more

This is not my first trip the the Rocklin, CA Smog-N-Go. I have frequented this location for the better part of 10 years. This afternoon on 3/1/2019 I arrived at the Rocklin location around 2PM Friday afternoon, to find 1 of 3 possible testing bays open. There was one car in the middle bay, the other 2 bays were closed. I was the 4th car to waiting outside the bays. I asked the technician if they were only running one bay? He responded "yes". Note that there were at the least 3 Smog N- Go employees in the testing area, seated in chairs, doing nothing. There was no reason for me to have to wait for 3 other customers, when at least one other bay could have been opened. I have used this Smog-N-Go for the last 10 years and after 2 bad experiences in a row, will no longer give Smog-N-Go my business. Note that they close early on certain holidays, but don't bother to post or notify customers on their door fronts or websites. Secondary note: I was born and raised in Penryn Ca, so I have no idea why the yelp review has me listed as San Fransisco. read more

Total BS my Diesel Truck didn't pass the snap test. First of all only in California would you have to do something as ridiculous as to smog a diesel. Your truck puts out black smoke.....DUH!! It's a damn diesel. So I visit the Rocklin location because I am selling my truck and only California makes you get a smog check before you sell your vehicle.. even though it passed smog 8 months ago. The technician was supposed to do a snap test to see how long the black smoke lingers...FYI in California your diesel can only have black smoke linger for 4 seconds max. When my truck was being I heard the technician revving it up and not doing a snap test like they are supposed to. So when you rev it up instead of just pushing the down and quickly letting off of course it's going to put out black smoke that lingers for more than 4 seconds. When the technician came in to tell me my truck didn't pass I then got a lecture "because of trucks like mine is why California requires diesels to be smogged" thanks buddy I don't need a lecture about my truck smoking. I was told of course I can get a free re-test. Why on earth would I bring it back to this clown. The smoke test is so subjective and I guess I caught this guy on a bad day. This is the same truck that they passed 8 months ago and nothing has changed and there is nothing wrong with my motor. Here is the kicker to the whole story, I take my truck 15 mins later to Smog Busters in Roseville and surprise... surprise.... it's passed! What a joke! You guys have lost my business forever. I will now take my 3 cars to Smog Busters since they aren't ridiculous about the black smoke from a diesel. I hope the tech that did my truck won't do other diesels like mine... a snap test means push the pedal and let off.... not rev it up and hold it. read more

They did the smog check for my bf and did it in a decent time. Took about 30-45 minutes for entire process of drop car off and get smogged. Had 3 other cars in age for he smog check that were ahead of us. About 5 technicians on duty but only 1 on the floor. 1 person at front desk and rest of the guys were in the back office talking. The price was around $70 with tax but yelp check in brought it down $5-6. I wouldn't take my car here because the price is a little ridiculous compared to other smog shops but if you need a decent job on the same day they take walk ins. Actually, I don't believe they have appointments as people constantly walk in all day so your appointment would most likely be pushed behind those who showed up already anyway. read more

I'm really forgiving when it comes to customer service, but I just stopped in today with a general question about buying a used car out of state and having it pass smog in california, and proceeded to get the worst customer service I've gotten from any business I've been to in, years. I was treated like I was an idiot, it was like pulling teeth to get any information, which ended up only being vague and condescending. So I go home and call up Rocklin Smog & Auto Repair, get someone friendly on the line who let's me know that the only thing I really can check is if the catalytic converter is stock, as an aftermarket one would probably cause it to fail. First time I've been here and I have to say, they were very efficient...I was in and out in about 15 min... I only gave them 4 stars because although they run their store with military precision, the employees did tend to be a little on the grumpy side.... nobody waiting could get a smile out of the guy at the front desk... surely it couldn't hurt to laugh at your customer's stupid jokes... nobody working there seemed happy today... I brought my 2006 Navigator in to be smoked and because I had just replaced my battery they said I needed to drive it more to get data on it as the new battery cleared the history. I explained that this was a car I didn't drive much but the sales person told me it didn't matter, that I paid for the smog and all I had to do was bring it back when I had some miles on it. I brought it back and then they told me I waited too long and wanted to charge me more than $90 again. If your car is older than 2010 don't take it here. These guys have no idea what they are doing. Watched 2 employees try to figure out how to open my engine hood for 5 minutes and when I went out there to ask if he had it figured out he yelled at me to go back inside and wait. Then watched them take panels of my car that did not need to be removed for a smog check? I watched them struggle for half an hour Only for them to fail for burning oil which no other smog place had a problem with. read more

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised. Brought a company truck here recently that had to pass smog through a test-only center. Well, I was expecting to leave the truck and pick it up a couple hours later, but these guys had it on the dyno before we were done with paperwork. OK, that was a bit of an exaggeration - but seriously, it was quick! I don't think I spent more than 20 minutes here. And the price was reasonable, too. A couple notes- **Make sure that you make sure they include your coupon during checkout.** If you've been feeling like you haven't done anything for your community or society in general, they eloquently ask if you would like to donate to Make A Wish. I would suggest rounding up to the nearest ten. **They were so fast that my 3 year old only had to play 18 rounds of Angry Birds. That's about 10 minutes in grown up time. Interesting enough we had come here after doing an oil change right next door at Jiffy Lube. It was very convenient and the service is great. Along with smog checks, I believe they also do DMV registration renewals. That right there is a time saver. We came in late Thursday and we were out of there in no time. Came here to get my car smogged and pay my registration since they advertise that they take registration payments so that you dont have to go to the dmv. I called in advance and was not told that apparently this is the only smog n go location that cannot accept registration payments on a weekend. After asking many questions I finally got the reason why and it is because there is one person that works here that can take those payments apparently and he is off on Saturdays so just to let everybody know They do not except DMV registration payments on the weekend and they also charge an extra $35 for processing. That part was a little frustrating however they smog my car very quickly I was in and out in like 10 minutes. I just wish that I hadn't taken the time to drive all the way over here if they couldn't take the payment anyways I can't go to the DMV because of my work schedule read more
