I've been here twice: first, when I needed to renew my registration (needed a smog test) and 2nd when I was transferring the car I was using to my name (it was under my aunt's). Both of my visits were fast and efficient. I'm writing only now because I want everyone to know how amazing and fast their service is. Here's the story: The first time I went here (October 2016) while they were doing a smog on my 1995 Corolla, I saw that they were offering some DMV services like registration renewal, title transfer, and the likes. I thought to myself, ok, this is interesting to know and remembered it at the back of my head. Fast forward six months, my aunt kept on nagging me to transfer the title to my name because she needed a scholarship for my cousin and she can't have three vehicles under her name. So I procrastinated and took care of it last minute. I went to two DMV offices (Culver and Van Nuys) and saw that both were packed. Not being able to schedule an appointment, I told myself that it's either I'm going to fall in line and wait 3 hours just to take care of this or find an alternative. Then, I remembered Smog Zone's DMV services and decided to give it a try. Paying for a little more to save time is what I wanted because I want to use my time wisely (by playing video games). When I arrived there, Haik helped me out and explained to me how fast things were going to get done (vs. DMV). I was impressed because I was always skeptical of going to third party services when you can go to DMV directly. Haik proved me wrong. He was very helpful and told me that they offered these services to help everyone avoid the hassle of queueing long lines at the DMV. The next time I need something taken care of, this is the place I would go to. You get every bang out of your buck. I was in a rush to get a smog check and several of the locations I had looked up on yelp turned out to be closed or unavailable upon arrival. I was very pleased to find out that this location was open and available. A staff member answer the phone promptly when I called to figure out if they were available. They were able to get me in and out with the smog test certificate in under 15 minutes. This has been my second time here at Smog Zone. Unfortunately, I didn't pass my smog test this time but Haik the owner was very friendly and informative about what I needed to do to pass the test. The shop was clean and the test was done in a matter of minutes. Went here today to get my smog check , found it on yelp and liked that it was local and got positive ratings . The service was excellent; my smog check was completed very quickly because it passed on the first time . The person who helped me gave me a discount (due to Yelp and google) , which I appreciated . He even took the extra time to put air in my tires after I asked him if any of the neighboring auto mechanics had an air machine . Oh and he showed me a quick fix to a problem I was having with the door to my fuel tank. Doesn't get much better, thanks smog zone! read more

The owner of super friendly and very fast. He's had the same shop for 19 years. It literally took three minutes for him to smog my car. It was the fastest smog check I've ever had in my entire life. Plus he is certified with the DMV and got me my registration and sticker on the spot for only 30 bucks! The only negative thing I have to say is that there is no AC or fan in the waiting area and it is the middle of summer. But that is very minor compared to the wonderful experience I had. read more

I needed a Smog check from a STAR station and chose based on the reviews here. I called ahead and the gentleman who answered was very helpful. I came in around lunch time on a Monday and was assisted immediately, he even recognized my voice from my call earlier. So I just did my first smog test today. I had a little trouble finding this place because the whole block either fixed/tested/sold cars. Be sure to call first! He was still finishing up a car but told me to come when I could. I was quoted $50 ($10 off) and he promised to finish in 15 minutes. He finished it in leSs! Yay! He was very cordial, friendly, and quick. He did ask how I found this place and I told him through Yelp. He also requested that I write a review if my experience there was great. And it was. This is the best of the best smog check that I've ever experienced! Yelp did have today's (Tuesday) hours incorrect. It said on my so-called smartphone that they opened at 8:30. I pulled up at 8:15 and they were open. First of all, the shop is very clean. Secondly the staff is welcoming and friendly. I don't use the term "welcoming" lightly. He greeted me and explained how many people were in front of me, and that "It won't take long." I thought to myself, "Yeah right, they all say that." But it actually was fast! This guy (I think it was the owner) was efficient, and worked like a well-oiled machine. I was also happy that there was a check-in discount (for all you non-yelp-app folks, that's something you can use at various businesses with your mobile device). Even if I hadn't passed, I wouldn't give this place a bad review. It's not the smog check shop's fault if your car is modified or has poor emissions. There was also ample parking in the lot. Great service and very honest! I used this smog shop back in December and my car failed do to some minor issues. After all the headache of getting my car fixed I finally came back today and I was taken care of with the same great service as the first time around. The service tech even offered to check my cars computer system before he preformed the smog test on my car just to make sure it'll pass so I don't waste any of my money doing another smog. My vehicle has just reached the age where smog checks are a rite of passage. Came here around 2:00pm. There was one car before me, but the wait was not long, about 10 minutes. After my car was started, it took only about 15mins and I received my certificate and was ready to go! There is a waiting area that keeps you cool while waiting. The smog check was $60, and $45 with the yelp check-in discount. Haik is the owner, and the person who helped me. Apparently, Haik has been in the business of smog checks for over 10 years, and he started this business on his own...I could sense the ownership and pride he had for his shop. TERRIBLE SERVICE! I took my truck there and the technician saw I had a check engine light on and still proceeded to do my test. Afterwards he told me I failed my heart and I was obligated to pay. I told him why? And he stated the computer couldn't tell me the code. I asked him if I fixed the issue if I can bring my truck back for a re test. The place was fast and the guy was very friendly, but unfortunately something went wrong with his equipment. Although my car was passing the emissions check numbers, it was putting up a communications failure when connecting to my car's computer (the OBD check). The guy told me that I would have to get the connector repaired most likely. I drove down the street to Pep Boys and had them connect their OBD code checkers to my car, and it worked fine. Ran the smog test there, and everything was okay. I don't know who's at fault here, especially since he did seem to try the connector at least a few times. Probably just some snag in his equipment, but I did wind up overpaying like $40 (for the failed test here) today for what appears to be nothing so I'm a bit annoyed. Everyone else seems to have had a great experience here, which is why I'm so confused. read more

I'm one, like many others who dread getting the "SMOG certification required" upon receiving your DMV registration renewal. I've been there and done that with my past cars and today was the day I have to do it with my new car, which I have owned for a good 6 years now (Black 2007 Honda Element SC). No appointment needed, but call ahead of time to check the wait time (I didn't call, and took my chances seeing what the wait time was)... Haik is a pro, and what's cool, he was telling me his story of how he used to have a Honda Element AWD and did the camping stuff... It's cool to connect with someone who has had a great experience with such a versatile car... He worked his magic and I was out in about 15 minutes or so. He's very friendly and cool, and knows what he's doing. You can count on him to get the smog test done. I;m glad to see that this place lives up to the praise and reviews... You drive in, looking around like a confused deer because it's just a lot with lots of cars and three businesses operating out of the same 200 sq. ft. area. Finally, someone approaches your vehicle, tells you to double park your car, give another stranger your keys, and wait and indeterminate amount of time. ^^^ All this happened to me, only to be told my car would fail... not because anything is wrong with the car, but because it is "not ready." Basically, I just had $1200 of work done on my car to fix everything wrong with it, but I need to drive it "50-100 more miles" before an assessment can actually be made. Smog Zone is a very trustworthy business. I am a 22 year old college girl who knows nothing about her vehicle except that it has great difficulties passing the smog test every other year. Though I feel out of place when I take my truck anywhere auto-related, Smog Zone always ends up being a pleasant experience. Haik is not only a lovely gentleman, he is a knowledgeable craftsman and an extremely hard worker. He runs the shop pretty much on his own and yet is still more efficient than many a slothful crew.
