First off, I haven't been here in quite some time but it is a place I gladly recommend. Why? Simple, good barbecue. Lindsay, TX is closer to Oklahoma than it is Dallas, TX, so unless you're up in those parts, it is quite a hike for some barbecue. Although it would be worth the trip. This place has been around for a long time, and the decor pretty much shows that. Wood panels, mismatched chairs and a tiny corner up front with a sectioned off bar for the smokers to visit. They even have an older waitress who tells corny jokes. But, you don't come for the atmosphere, you come for some very good barbecue. Alot of people up in North Texas will tell you about Clark's in Tioga, Tx. It's been in bbq books and food shows, etc. but over the years (since the original owner passed) it's been living more on the hype than it does really great food. The food is still good, just not what it was years ago. As for the Smokehouse, it has it's moments too, from what I have been told, but I haven't had a bad experience. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chopped beef, sausage. All the usuals and it's all really good and you get a big plate, with Texas Toast and a huge hunk of raw onion. The sauce is really good too. And you won't leave hungry. So, if you're feeling adventurous, head up 35W all the way to 82 and hang a left. You will run right into Lindsay and some food to remember. read more

The Smokehouse has been our family spot for years and years. Almost nothing has changed but there is honestly no reason to mess with success. I've had everything on the menu at some point in my life, but I rarely venture outside the sausage sandwich or chicken fried steak these days. I recommend any of the beef dishes, german sausage, or the delicious pork ribs, and I gotta advise that you order some onion rings and extra BBQ sauce on the side. Can't beat it! read more

This place is the best kept secret for brisket and I like it that way. The Smokehouse has the BEST brisket north of Taylor or Lockhart Tx. Found this little gem of a smokehouse while visiting The Winstar Casino. It's of I35N, west on exit 498. Had a sliced brisket and sausage sandwich with their enormous serving of fries. Delicious!! Large servings at a really great price! Wife had chopped brisket with tater salad. It was so good we went back for dinner! Catfish plate was on point! Fresh, hot and very tasty! Whoever is smoking their meats is doing a great job!! Service is on point with friendly quick service, lots of attention to detail. This was my first time here. It was right after a trip to the casino Winstar. we had a craving for BBQ and this place had some really good reviews so we decided to check it out. the ribs are really good they definitely give you bigger portions than you would see at other places at that price so no complaints on portionwise they are very generous. the potato salad was light which I liked. the fried okra was fried to perfection it wasn't too salty or overcooked it was just right. so I really don't have any complaints about this place I was however confused on where to park because it looks like a drive-in but none of the people that were in the drive in were in their cars. so we decided to park within the drive in spot and just head on inside. the waiting staff is pretty nice, quite bold. they are definitely outspoken and it seems to have somewhat of a homey feel because everybody knows each other not just between the wait staff but the wait staff and the customers they seem to have a lot of repeat customers which is a really good thing for business. I thought that was really cool. but I didn't really like how it had a smoking and non-smoking section because the place is so small that even though we were in the non-smoking section you could still smell the smoke it was faint but that's what really brought down my review score on that. but all in all if you're craving some BBQ and you're in the area and don't mind the smoke smell I definitely would recommend this place because they definitely leave you full. read more

We popped in to Smokehouse BBQ with our family reunion today not knowing what to expect, and it turned out to be awesome. It is your classic Texas BBQ joint, and they know how to do it right! I ordered the rib plate with fried okra and French fries, while the husband had the fried shrimp platter with okra and salad. Both plates were around $9 which I think is pretty reasonable for a normal sized shrimp or rib platter. However, when the plates came out, we were SHOCKED to find how much food they give! Super generous with their portions. I did not even make a dent, and believe me when I say this girl can eat! If all you want is sides, this is your place. The onion rings, potato salad, and fried okra are all very well done and the only reason they are getting two, not one star. Now on to the reason for the bad review. The meat is always front and center at a BBQ restaurant and the meat here was seriously lacking in so many areas. I ordered the two meat plate with ribs and German sausage and the better half ordered a chopped beef sandwich. The food arrived and the chopped beef looked like a smushed sloppy joe you would get served in prison, or the third grade, if you're a good little boy or girl. I have to take my girlfriends taste into account here because I wasn't up for trying it after I bit into my first rib. She ate two bites and couldn't eat anymore, now back to the rib. The ribs looked decent with a nice blackening on the outside and good smoke layer through the meat. Upon first bite I noticed It had definitely sat under a heat lamp a long time. The rib was dry and it just tasted old. So after bite one of rib one, I thought maybe rib two would be better. One bite in nope, rib three...come on rib three, I'm hungry! Aw hell na, not good either. Can you tell I was excited about getting some good texas BBQ ribs?!? Oh well, onto the German sausage. Oh no, same story here, dry, not well seasoned, old tasting sausage. Then I ate all my sides, as I said before, and went back for the ribs just soaking them in BBQ in protest that I stopped at the wrong place and was starving. If you want to know what prompted me to remember to write a review hours later, the horrendously stenchy belches that just won't quit reminding me what those ribs tasted like. This is my first and probably last trip there. My friend and I were in there Tuesday around 11:30 AM. I realize it was the day before Christmas and close to lunch time but it seemed to me they were woefully understaffed! I took about 10 minutes for our server to take our drink order. She came back another 10 or more minutes to take our food order. We finally received our plates a little over 1/2 hour later and my sliced beef was dry and COLD and I had to use a knife to get it cut up! The rest of the meal (cole slaw and breaded okra) was wonderful. Unfortunately we were in kind of a hurry so I kept my comments to myself. Good ol' Texas BBQ here. The combination platters are like looking in a rear view mirror. They are larger than they appear. It took everything in me to clean my plate. My buddy wimped out and couldn't finish his. I recommend the side of green beans. They are cooked with some kind of pork meat and they are so soft and succulent. Speaking of soft stuff, the rib meat just fell off the bone. The BBQ sauce is served on the side and it has just the right combination of sweet, tangy, and spice. My family has been eating at the Smoke House ever since I was little. The food is so great, we drive 35minutes just to eat there. My favorite plate to order is the ribs with homemade onion rings, baked beans, and a red beer; it just doesn't get any better. What is up? I have been dinning with you guys since 1980. I moved here from Kentucky that year. Kentucky has some of the best BBQ in the Country, and you guys stood out. I have never had a problem with the Smokehouse in all these years until three or four months ago. Someone has changed your BBQ flavor. One day it even tasted like ketchup. Out of the last five times we dinned with y'all it was only decent once. What's going on? I realize some new restaurants have moved in and things are kind of tight, but changing the quality of your food will only hurt y'all more in the long run. For me this is the gold standard in BBQ. I grew up coming here and I am certain that the decor hasnt changed since then. Things to order: Chopped sandwich, Onion rings, chicken fried steak, onion rings, extra texas toast and sauce, onion rings. The pork ribs are the best ever with a slightly chewy outer skin and moist flavorful inside that pulls easily off the bones. I always order the large rib plate, fries and beans. Cold food - twice in a row. I used to go here very often years ago. It was my favorite bbq place around. The food is prepared well, good flavor, and the meats tender. We haven't give in years. But twice in two weeks, the food all came out with temp off. Dieters could not pull customers from this place, but that has all changed. They seem more popular now. I suspect smokehouse staff is putting prepared plates on something VERY cold before serving. This temp issue used to be why I drove past smokehouse ii in Gainesville. That location always had temp issues with the food. It's a shame because this place piles onion rings high and gives good portions of meat. The food isn't hot with lukewarm spots, it's warm with cold spots. I don't know how they made the temperature extremes on the same plate, but the bottom of everything is cold. 2 stars only because this would be really good hot. read more

We decided to try this place because of all of the good reviews and since the parking lot always seems to be full. We have been to Dieters BBQ next door several times before and always talked about trying smokehouse. Today we did and I don't think we will go back. Place was packed and just like the reviews everyone in the establishment seemed to like it. Our sides were good but the ribs, brisket and turkey were all way to smokey flavored for both my wife and I. If you like smokey flavored meat this might be the place for you to go. Not for us though. The flavor reminds me of liquid smoke used for Burger King burgers times ten. For sides we had fried okra, potato salad, green beans and cole slaw. Sides were all very good...... We personally prefer Dieters BBQ next door and will continue to go there when we are hungry for BBQ in the Gainesville area. read more
