This shop is extremely unprofessional. We dropped off our car for an oil change and returned two hours later to find the car wasn't even on the property. Minutes later, we saw an employee driving it in from the road. When we asked why someone was taking our car off the lot, the manager became defensive and actually yelled at us. Later, a second manager admitted the employee had taken our car to run a personal errand to Home Depot, which is completely unacceptable. They tried offering a free oil change, but we refused and got a refund. The second manager tried to justify saying it was an "honest mistake" and that they do this all the time and showed no remorse. Do NOT come to this shop. I came in for a simple VA safety inspection, and the inspector claimed I failed due to three bulbs being out. I am almost certain they were working when I arrived. He immediately tried to charge me $20 per bulb ($60 total) on top of the $20 inspection fee. As a woman with small children with me, the entire interaction felt like he assumed I wouldn't know any better. I was simply trying to get this done for my husband--who is a mechanic at a local dealership--because the inspector here hadn't been in all week. Big mistake. The Sunoco inspector absolutely tried to take advantage of the situation. When I politely declined the repairs, he got annoyed and dismissive. I told him my husband would fix the lights and I'd bring the car back. He said "okay," placed the rejection sticker, and told me I had 15 days. The next day (Sunday, 11/23 at 12:30pm) I came back with my husband. The tech there told us the inspector wasn't in and that they were "closed," even though their posted hours and their sign said open until 2pm. He was extremely rude and even yelled at us. Monday (11/24) my husband went back again--literally just needing the sticker. Suddenly the inspector says he charges a $1 "reinspection fee" and an extra $0.50 for using a credit card. ...Seriously? The staff--from the cashier to the inspectors--were rude, confrontational, and completely unprofessional the entire time. They even tried to belittle my husband, saying: "Why do you have your wife bring the car here if you're a mechanic?" Not only is that inappropriate, but it's none of their business. I was simply trying to help. And yes, the stereotype about shops taking advantage of women sadly felt very true here. For the record: Virginia law states that the first re-inspection within 15 days at the same shop is free. Only after that can a shop charge $1 for reinspection. This shop does not follow best practices and clearly counts on customers not knowing the law. Bottom line: The behavior here was unprofessional, rude, and felt intentionally misleading. My car broke down and I had it towed here. I was quoted $1,300 for a laundry list of things that need to be fixed. One of the things on the list was the tail lights needed to be replaced. I could do that myself, so I asked them to take that off the service. Once I got the car back I checked my tail lights and they worked perfectly fine. They misdiagnosed broken tail lights, how can I trust them to correctly diagnose the other work my car "needed." If you must go to this place exercise extreme caution. read more

Never take your car here for state inspection, these clowns do not know wtf they are doing. The old guy with the white hair and white mustache is so rude. He said he wanted to put my car on the lift to check out my catalytic converter, (I have an exhaust system that is catted) and I said I'm doing an inspection not emission, he didn't want listen... Waved his hands back and forth and didn't answer my question of how long since they already have one car on the lift and God knows what they are doing. I have other appointments to run and I felt like I was being held hostage. The lady up front called for the service manager and he said 30 mins before it can be put on the lift. Yeah effin right. When the car was on the lift they said they called the service line and have to wait for a state trooper to come to inspect it, so I said great, I'm going to tell the trooper how they wasted his or her time because they didn't know how to do their job. Like troopers have time to come out and do your effin job. And of course 40 mins of standing there he said no trooper is coming and failed me. He wanted to explain why he failed me and shit and offered me their business card to come back to get it fix. Byoch, in your dreams. My dad is a mechanic and I'm fully aware of what I have and ensure it's safe and meets state safety. He also said he pulled my records of where I got my emission done, ok... what's the point of that? and you were supposed to only do inspection. In my previous review I gave this Sunoco 5 stars for their great attitude while fixing my tire. That was a huge mistake. As it turned out, their plug did not fix it and the tire kept leaking. My wife took the car back the 2nd time back and they plugged it again. However that time she mentioned to me that they were pretty rude to her which was surprising since they could not have been nicer to me. However that changed when the tire continued to leak and I took it back a third time. That time, they started insisting that they had already REPAIRED, as in successfully fixed it twice. They claimed that in fact their repairs had been just fine each time and it was not their fault that "other" leaks in the same tire kept occurring! I pointed out how coincidental it would have to be for the same tire to develop new leaks but that didn't seem to register. They finally told me to bring my leaking tire back next week and they would look at it again NEXT WEEK. Besides the fact that I might not be able to make it back with a leaking tire, I mentioned that my wife would have to take off work to bring it back, and she had already taken off from work once so they could work on it. They shot back that she had brought in in first thing in the morning and she HAD NOT taken off work. It was incredulous that I was having tis conversation with them. I guess taking a car to a mechanic in the morning rather than being able to go to work does not constitute "taking off from work" in their book At that, I decided to take my car to another shop. That's when I got the worst news of all. It seemed that Sunoco's repeated efforts to plug my tire ended up damaging it, forcing me to have to spent $200 on a replacement! (Lest you think the second mechanic said that just to sell me a tire, they didn't have one in stock to sell me.) It's so unfortunate that my experience with Sunoco turned out as it did. As I said, I could not have been happier with them after the first visit. If they had just taken responsibility when the first plug didn't fix it, they would probably have gained a new customer for life. They were that convincing the first time. Quick, nice spot right off Minnieville Rd. Let me first say, I have never had any repair work done here at all. I only come here for emission inspections and state inspections. The guys are always friendly and efficient. Service is quick even if the line seems long, don't worry it does move quick. There is no waiting area so be prepared to stand while they perform your inspection. The station is small itself and can get crowded with cars going to get gas but have usually have the line or inspections clearly designated. In less than 20 minutes I was on my way. I have gone several times to the other locations in hopes my experience would change, but I have been disappointed each time. Small station so the lot can get crowded. State inspector is pretty fast and the line seems to be shorter than other places. I had an oil change (synthetic) done on my Lexus. It was $69. Generally $10-$20 less than other places. You don't get vacuuming or Windows cleaned but hey you save enough to get a car wash that includes it so that's good enough for me :) If you want free coffee and TV and wireless internet then go to your dealer and overpay. If you want an inspection and some basic service it's fine. Dealers like to hire professional looking guys who get a bonus for up selling. These guys just do what you need and let you go. read more

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. I just got back from doing my state inspection and I am not happy. Everything went well during the inspection, the guy told me I needed all my breaks done and they barely passed which I knew but once I got into my car to leave I noticed my radio system wasn't turning on so I went back inside and made them come check it out. The guy that originally did my inspection knew he did something wrong because he did not come look at my car, he had someone else do it. They claim that my radio was not on when they got in my car which is a total lie because he heard me turn down my radio when he started speaking to me. My system was not even a year old and now it's gone! He had my car in his possession for 30 minutes and fucked something up. They said that the radio was not tampered with so it's not their responsibility. Now I have no radio in my car and the worst part is he didn't even come out to apologize. An apology goes a long way and he didn't even have the courtesy to give me one. These people are horrible and they have lost a customer. I hope no one else has an experience like mine. read more

I would never recommend this gas station when I went to have my state inspection came back with the fact that I have a brake problem l found it interesting that at least four other people who were undergoing the state inspection also had brake problems. So when I asked him how much it was to repair it I felt that the cost was too high. I declined to have it repaired there and tried to leave and the owner and probably the relative of the owner came out and started yelling at me. it wasn't the yelling with a raised voice it was the yelling with throbbing veins in their four heads. Then they started accusing me of being a racist. So my recommendation would be to just stay away. I have found other yelp reviews that kind of alluded to the same thing and the other thing that was mentioned was that yelp takes away the bad ratings so we shall see. They tell you what is wrong, give you an estimate at a fair price, and fix it. No one likes to get their car rejected for an inspection which is what most of the "1ers" are about. I've been taking my cars to smoketown Sunoco for YEARS having moved from richmond to nyc to japan back to richmond and then back to dc I have always made it the go to spot near my folks house. After having some disappointing service from the Arlington shop I was taking my car to (Curry's) I went back to my tried and true Moe for service. He is always honest, dependable, affordable and gets it right the first time. And he's super speedy on the service. I can't say enough good things about this shop. We took the car in midday on Friday, saying that there were alarming transmission problems. Friday: Couldn't find anything on an initial inspection. Saturday -- no info. Sunday closed; Monday closed. Tuesday -- no info. Weds -- well, the mechanic drove it a few miles and nothing happened. Thursday -- no info. Friday -- we asked them to at least for God's sake do the inspection. Saturday -- no info. These people NEVER called us about the car, not even to say the inspection had been done. And when we called, the mechanic was supposed to call us back, and didn't. End result #1: Mechanic's report boiled down to, ". . . I dunno. Take it to the dealer." End result #2: We rented a car for a week while this garage had the car parked on the side of the building. Okay so I go there Saturday for an inspection. He pulls my 19" wheel off and tell me I need rear brakes. Quotes me a price of $109 and I tell them to go ahead and do the repair. Meanwhile, the tech breaks three of the 5 lug nuts on my tire and then tells me I can leave it or come back to get charged for what they broke...oh and they failed me on the inspection. I ended up taking my car to Quality Tires who had to take it elsewhere to have the 3 broken lug nuts removed and I was charged $270. Now I STILL have to get my brakes replaced and my vehicle reinspected...but not by these guys, because all the vehicles I seen coming and going, mine was the only one they pulled the tire off of. Won't be going back there anymore, your negligence cost me a grip for a lame ass $16 inspection. Oh and, if I could rate you NO STARS I would've! read more

Shitty. Dont take your vehicle here for inspection unless you want to wait in line only to be given shitty treatment by the "head" service guy or whatever. Went here on a sat during hours and he told me they closed and to come back monday. Fine. Went back on mon and waited in line only to have that guy give me a load of bs about how my hood would somehow make me automatically fail and also that "we'd need the state police to come here tomorrow to check to see if my tires were within spec." He was then going around my car with a tape measure measuring who-knows-what and i said its weird that there are these issues because ive had the car inspected at Lake Ridge Auto, Rt. 1 Auto, and Quantico Firestone (all reputable shops), and none ever mentioned any of that stuff. He smugly said, "well maybe you should go to one of those places," to which i responded "i guess i will," and he said "okay!" The guy clearly didnt want to inspect my car for some reason.. It's totally weird. Maybe he got pissy because i had to show him how to open the hood? Maybe because i had tools in the car, which is antique ive been restoring, so he figured i know a lot about cars and he wouldnt be able to sell me crap i didnt need? Maybe because i only needed a safety inspection ($16) and not also the smog, which is more expensive. Idk.. Point is dont go here for inspection. They waste your time and then jerk you around with some made up bs if they dont feel like inspecting your car. Back in 1994 when I first came to Dale City I took my car to a Mobile station for an inspection, it failed for inner tie rods....I know quite a bit about cars (I do my own repairs)and I asked the "mechanic" how he could tell....he said "the book said that they had to be replaced @50k miles"....I showed him how to test them and explained to him that they were good.....he still failed me....I finally asked one one my co-workers that lived in the area where to take it ...I didn't want a shady inspection because if they are shady on inspections they would be shady on everything else...he told me about Smoketown Sunoco...took it there and passed....they are honest, knowledgeable and competitive in price for repairs(cheaper than dealer) in the 20+ years never had a bad experience...repairs that I didn't want to do (because of time and expertise) they did on time and within cost.
