We arrived right at 5 pm on a Friday night. It was a few minutes before they could seat us (party of 2). Then it was a while before the bartender was able to get our drink orders. She was great, tried to check in as much as she could, etc. but they were clearly understaffed and she had tables all over the place as well as the bar. It took about 80 minutes from entering to leaving, and we placed our food order with our drink order. We also ate pretty quick, as we had plans at 7 pm. My mom enjoyed her ribs very much, and the portion sizes are generous. I ordered the brisket grilled cheese with potato wedges on the side. It tasted good, but wasn't anything special. We came with our very close friends from out of town that we haven't in a good while. While several in our group were served in a timely manner, four in our group had to wait for nearly 2 hours to be served. Two of the four were our good friends from out of town. Impressive Bar and BBQ Place. I stopped into Smokey Bones after seeing a few locations during my travels. I was curious about the food and the vibe and decided to give the Grove City Ohio location a try. Smokey is a commercial chain of Barbecue restaurants around the USA serving up their versions of classic barbecue dishes. I was seated very quickly and my server came to my table very quickly. I told them that this was my first visit and they helped me choose starters and my main course. Each table at Smokey Bones has an assortment of barbecue sauces that you can try to see which one or ones you like. I started my meal with a cup of chili and the Korean Pork Belly Pops which is slow-cooked, tender pork belly, flash-fried until it's crispy and then topped with Smokey Bones Korean BBQ sauce. These pops were flavourful and more filling than I thought which left me with only a smaller portion option for my main course. I then ordered the Texas-style beef Brisket Platter that comes with two sides. The Brisket was moist and tender with a good amount of smokiness permeating through the meat. My sides were fire-roasted corn and Barbecue baked beans. Both sides were a great compliment to my meal. I was impressed with the place, the alcohol selection, the vibe, the service and the food as well. I most likely will try Smokey Bones again in another city to see how it compares to the Grove City location. read more

Let's get something straight: tipping is not a rite of passage. I grew up in the food and restaurant industry my entire life. My mom was a server, back then, a "waitress" -- for over 30 years. Tipping has never been about the size of the party or the total on the check. It's based on service, period. If the service is bad, the tip reflects that. Simple. We had a party of 11, and despite multiple checks , the restaurant still added gratuity to every single one. On top of that, the server knowingly accepted a cash tip even though gratuity was already included. Yes, there's a sign, but it's a microscopic chalkboard off to the right when you walk in, where no one is looking and we did not see this microscopic sign. That is a deceptive practice, Smokey Bones. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Our party will not be returning. When someone orders a medium‑well steak and it comes out well‑done, when the broccoli is soggy, when the baked potato is basically disintegrated, that means the entire order was overcooked. And the server never came back for us to address any of it. Yet we still tipped her well. She shares responsibility in this deceptive practice because she could have simply said, "No thank you or made us aware that the gratuity is already included automatically." Don't assume customers are going to scan the room for a microscopic sign. Put it on the front counter if you want people to actually see it. Stop being deceptive. This was my first time at Smokey Bones, and I was excited to try it based on the reviews. When I arrived around 5 PM, the place was empty. I sat at the bar, but the bartender didn't acknowledge me for over five minutes. When she finally did, I ordered a Johnnie Walker on the rocks, double, and she brought me a menu. Despite the slow service, I decided to stay and ordered another drink along with 1/4 chicken with cornbread and a half rack of ribs with beans and slaw. The bartender and other employees were chatting and eating at the bar, which felt unprofessional. The food was disappointing. The 1/4 chicken was tiny, and the half rack of ribs was small. The cornbread was the highlight, but the ribs and chicken were dry. The beans never arrived, and the bartender suggested corn instead. Overall, the food was below average, and the service was mediocre. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who enjoys real BBQ. It wasn't worth the price I paid read more

This is the first time that I have been here in many years and I was pleasantly impressed. I ordered a side salad with bacon vinaigrette and a piece of grilled chicken. My server wasn't exactly sure how to ring it up but he figured it out. The salad was very good and the grilled chicken was the best! My husband ordered the chili and was very satisfied with his dish. The hot cornbread was amazing with the honey butter. We were there later in the evening and the restaurant was pretty calm and quiet which is what we enjoy. We will definitely be back! My hubby and I were doing errands in Grove City and couldn't decide on a lunch destination, so we thought we would try Smokey Bones since it had been about ten years since our last visit. Their food has always been okay, but nothing memorable. I have never been a fan of their burgers, but I figured they would have something chicken related that I could eat. We were seated right away and our waitress was on hand to take our drinks and appetizer order of fried pickles, which were good. I settled for a chicken sandwich with fries and my hubby ordered a bowl of chili. The wait was extremely long; it took at least 40 minutes to get our entrees. My chicken sandwich was okay, but very dry. The fries were undercooked and bland, the chili was okay. So with that said, minus the wait time, Smokey Bones was exactly what I expected it to be. However, after our drinks had been refilled twice, and since we had some downtime waiting on our food, we started taking a hard look at our drink glasses. They were DISGUSTING. I thought they were frosted at first, but then realized they were plastic glasses. Then we were thinking maybe they were made that way, to look frosted. I scraped my nail along the inside of the cup and a layer of grime buildup came off. SO NASTY. We didn't bother saying anything, we just wanted to get out of there. Fast forward three days and now the hubby has a sore throat and nasal issues. I'm not saying it's from Smokey Bones, but it's coincidental, don't you think? Ordered the BOGO traditional wings 6 pc and was told by the SERVER that I could use my free premium side reward that I received in the email. I also had a reward for a free birthday dessert. I was served my side of onion rings and wings and about 30 seconds later the SERVER came and told me side of onion rings can't be free due to the BOGO offer and asked if I wanted them removed from my bill. I said yes please. Then manager came over and said he couldn't comp the onion rings because of the BOGO at which time I said I asked specifically the SERVER before I ordered if they qualified and she said yes and that it would greatly affect her tip. But he said no so the SERVER CAME BACK. and took them away from me. I assumed they were removed from my bill. But 10 minutes later the onion rings were brought back to my table and they were cold so I thought the manager decided to comp them and let me have them anyway. When I got my bill I was CHARGED for the COLD onion rings. Tried to talk the manager but he was not going to remove the charge said I had to understand this a business that I ordered the onion rings and the charge couldn't be removed and told me I was being rude. I told him I was not rude and I would NEVER be back. WOW, I have never experienced such terrible customer service in a restaurant. So I buy a half a rack of ribs and two sides. So I ordered a baked potato and broccoli. I took a picture of the broccoli so you guys can see the serving size they gave me, I believe it's 2 1/2 pieces of broccoli. Then the baked potato was not even rolled in salt. It was a baked potato, not even cut open. The ribs was half rack, so at least that was OK. I'm not sure if management doesn't care? Or is it just the workers who don't care? i probably went here close to 10 times within a month while in the area. Wings are pretty good, great smokey flavor but they are "jumbo wings", too big for my personal taste. The womens game was on, I guess they thought the women didn't count. Then said it was only on 6 wing (I got 10). Nowhere did it say 6 or 10. Not impressed w/waitresses that complain about their job throughout their order taking. It was also painfully slow. The food was okay. Kinda dry, & 8.25 for a draft beer I thought was a bit much. We had the Texas Brisket & a Pulled Pork Sandwich, plus 2 beers & it was $91 after tip! The food, service & restaurant (looked like Dennys opened a BBQ) were no where NEAR worth it. Brisket was overcooked and dried out. Mac & Cheese was flavorless goo. There was no creamy to the Creamy Coleslaw. BBQ baked beans were ok, in it's little bitty cup. We love this place but they need help!!! The bar manager just won't have it!!!! Missy the bartender is great; we go in to see her with our kids all the time. I heard her ask for help 3-4 times and nothing... Being a former bartender providing for my family, I understand how this will hurt her tips. she is doing her best. Not a great experience at all. I get that all businesses are not going to be the same at first, but this place dropped the ball on a few things. First, no prices on the menu! How am I to know the price on anything on the menu since the last time I was here? How do I know if they didn't raise the prices? I uploaded a photo of the menu so you can see. Secondly, my wife ordered BBQ pulled pork. The waiter brought it out with no BBQ. I get why they didn't have the bottles on the table, but we had to ask again for the BBQ sauce and we were not given any opinion. He gave her a random flavor. It wasn't that good. Third, no napkins were brought out with out food. I had to ask for napkins or go to the bathroom and get some. Biggest problem to me was the chicken. You can clearly see on the menu it says chicken sandwich. I ordered that and got grilled chicken. What!? That's not what I was expecting. McDonald and other restaurants have choices between chicken sandwich or grilled chicken sandwich. Not here. I was super annoyed that it was close to $10 for that and I didn't know because of them choosing not to add prices on the menu. Even Wendy's has a better grilled chicken and for a lot less. If they add prices, give you a choice on what BBQ sauce you'd like and what kind of chicken sandwich you'll be getting, I may return. I hate to just give 1 star, but $29 for our bill was extremely far from a so so experience when you can get better pulled pork down the road and a better grilled chicken from a fast food restaurant. read more
