Big Smoke Plate (3 Meats) Ribs Chicken Brisket Mac n cheese Cornbread
    Hallie S.

My boyfriend and I stopped by Smokey John's for dinner during our trip to Dallas and can confidently say this was the best BBQ we've had during all our trips to Texas. The brisket melted in our mouth and the ribs were so tender and tasty. I loved the flavor of the chicken. And from the BBQ sauces to choose from, the spicy was my favorite. This restaurant is pretty casual, with a window to order at and plenty of seating to choose from inside. We watched part of the hockey game they had on the tvs while we ate. The employees were really nice and made sure we had all we needed to enjoy our dinner. We will be back for more BBQ soon!

The best brisket goes to Smokey John ! The brisket plate I had was so good, very tender and juicy. The meat was just falling apart and I enjoyed every bite of it. The Mac and cheese didn't stand a chance. I ate it up in four bites. It was cheesy, creamy and seasoned well. The collard greens were just right and juicy. My favorite was the banana pudding, because it taste just like my grandma made it.

I got the Smokey turkey sandwich and my wife the brisket Sandwich. Three sauces

Had a 3 hour layover at love Field on Southwest. Didn't want to be subjected to Dicki's so this was the closet. Tasty and good portions!

If Smokey John's ain't the best bbq in Dallas, please direct me to somewhere better. This plate slapped! I ordered for delivery fresh off my flight. 2 meat plate, the ribs were excellent but that brisket is like no other! Juicy, tender, and flavorful. Barely needed the bbq sauce on the side, but obvi I still dipped that morsel of goodness. 10/10 Reccomended!

On our flight the flight attendant recommend this place. Its a few minutes from the airport. When we got there, it wasn't busy, there were a few people waiting for to go orders. I ordered a brisket sandwich with 2 sides and peach cobbler to go(no picture). The brisket was great. The Mac and cheese was good. The greens were decent, they didnt have a lot of flavor. I drank the sweet tea and I mean sweet!( oh so good)

This was second trip to old Smokey John's... First time in long time. I didn't dine in this time since I was in my lunch break, so I opted to try their online ordering. I got the big smoke plate which consists of it choice of three meats, two sides, and cornbread. The cornbread might've been extra but it was worth it!! Friendly people, always welcoming. Great atmosphere and the food is just delicious!!

Coming to Texas from California, one of the things I enjoy most, is being able to try all the different bbq locations Dallas has to offer. I was excited trying Smokey John's BBQ especially given how high the reviews are. The staff behind the cafeteria-style line were friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype during my visit on 1/2/2026. I arrived around 11:30 a.m., so I'm not sure if I was served older food, but the ribs were thin, dry, and burnt. The brisket was tough and lacked flavor. The yams were decent (6/10), and the mac and cheese was average (5/10). I'm hoping this was just an off day, because the reputation suggests better. I'm willing to give it another try, but this visit was disappointing.

This is a solid, family-owned and operated BBQ spot if you're looking to dodge the more popularized places in DFW. There's ample parking, a decent amount of seating, and you can tell the staff really prioritizes customer service -- which is rare, but definitely noticed and deeply appreciated. They offer a wide variety of sides, which I enjoy, especially as someone who doesn't eat pork. There were lots of pork-free dishes, which is a rare and welcome find. That said, the BBQ itself wasn't smoked or marinated the way I'm used to, and I wasn't a fan of having to ask for each condiment one by one (onions, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, etc.). Still, I'd come again if I was on this side of town.

    Outside of establishment

We went to Smokey John 3x during our vacation in Dallas and it did not disappoint! Food was DELICIOUS!!!!!! I had the fried catfish, collard greens and Mac and cheese each time. My husband had a Po'boy sandwich and fries. Absolutely delicious!! I was tempted to go back one more time with my Tupperware to take food back home, but my husband thought i was going too far (smh) Separate from the food, the entire staff was so pleasant and kind when we were there. This place is DEFINITELY bookmarked and we will be returning!

After flying to Dallas, my fiancé and I knew we needed to try some good Texas bbq. Smokey John's was a 5 min drive to our hotel and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Smoke on the Bone and my fiancé ordered the Catfish Basket. Everything was delicious as we had hoped it would be. Service was wonderful. We got to try a sample of the ribs (which solidified my choice for the Smoke on the Bone plate) and someone checked up on us to make sure we were okay. And prices were not too bad. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area and are craving for some good bbq.

Sausage, turkey in bbq sauce with Mac and cheese, candied yams, cornbread, strawberry cake.

You did it again Smokey John. Paid another visit to you guys and almost made a spectacle of myself again. The food was so good all there was left for me to do is to immediately take a nap right there at the table. To call it comfort food is an understatement. Still the reigning bbq champion of Dallas hands down. This is not a paid review, I'm just speaking from my stomach.

Grateful for the inside seating because if the only available option was to sit outside, I would not have sat there and eaten my food with the smell of that garbage coming across the parking lot.

Walking in the door into the dining full bar area,we were cheerfully greated by the bartend-ress on protocol. 48 hours into this review and I'm just at 3 paragraphs and deciding how long or not this is going to be. Texas barbecue is so dear to my heart I'm feeling an extensive review coming on. Let me finish this paragraph by mentioning a significant historical fact regarding bbq just a few blocks from here. " The" king of Dallas barbeque started not far from here. In 1935 Red Bryan started a BBQ business and became a legend. Passing the torch to his son Sonny Bryan who solidified the elevated smoking of brisket in Dallas. That era has passed and now.... We have a new movement. With the price of beef, personnel retention, operating expenses,it's gotta be one of the hardest operations in food service. But,Red,Sonny and others did it and the bar is raised for anyone else who expects you to patronize their establishment and pay today's prices. I was very disappointed in the brisket here. I should have taken it back but, wasn't in the mood. While the owners may be connected to Lockhart Texas BBQ royalty, you can't rest on your laurels. Let's give them some time to tweek the operation before we try again. At this time it's a no go.

I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.

The Ranch Potato Salad had the texture of mashed potatoes with Ranch Dressing all over it. "Terrible" They also loose a point for selling Pepsi instead of Coke products. Very overpriced for the amount of food you get. Do not recommend this restaurant.
