My boyfriend and I stopped by Smokey John's for dinner during our trip to Dallas and can confidently say this was the best BBQ we've had during all our trips to Texas. The brisket melted in our mouth and the ribs were so tender and tasty. I loved the flavor of the chicken. And from the BBQ sauces to choose from, the spicy was my favorite. This restaurant is pretty casual, with a window to order at and plenty of seating to choose from inside. We watched part of the hockey game they had on the tvs while we ate. The employees were really nice and made sure we had all we needed to enjoy our dinner. We will be back for more BBQ soon! read more

Pretty good BBQ around me. My sister ordered To-go and it came well packaged. We ordered a few big plates but I was sad to see that it didn't come with BBQ sauce. Otherwise, meat was good. Brisket was a little more tough and dry than I expected. The chicken was the best in my opinion! Very smokey and tender. The sausage was a close second with a nice smokey & spicy flavor. On our flight the flight attendant recommend this place. Its a few minutes from the airport. When we got there, it wasn't busy, there were a few people waiting for to go orders. This is a solid, family-owned and operated BBQ spot if you're looking to dodge the more popularized places in DFW. There's ample parking, a decent amount of seating, and you can tell the staff really prioritizes customer service -- which is rare, but definitely noticed and deeply appreciated. They offer a wide variety of sides, which I enjoy, especially as someone who doesn't eat pork. There were lots of pork-free dishes, which is a rare and welcome find. That said, the BBQ itself wasn't smoked or marinated the way I'm used to, and I wasn't a fan of having to ask for each condiment one by one (onions, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, etc.). I was excited trying Smokey John's BBQ especially given how high the reviews are. The staff behind the cafeteria-style line were friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype during my visit on 1/2/2026. I arrived around 11:30 a.m., so I'm not sure if I was served older food, but the ribs were thin, dry, and burnt. The brisket was tough and lacked flavor. The yams were decent (6/10), and the mac and cheese was average (5/10). I'm hoping this was just an off day, because the reputation suggests better. Wanted to love it, but a few things were just not giving great experience. The big posted menu by where you order has no prices - so you have to look at the printed and laminated menu - and if you are going to have 2 menus - make them match so you can figure out what's what. Like did the 1st combo plate let you have brisket on it? I'l never know. The lady serving the sides, she just was NOT into it, she was slow and grumpy and difficult to understand. The brisket sandwich gets points for a well grilled roll, but the meat itself was dry. The highpoint were the pork ribs and the mac and cheese. The green beans were not great. After flying to Dallas, my fiancé and I knew we needed to try some good Texas bbq. Smokey John's was a 5 min drive to our hotel and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Smoke on the Bone and my fiancé ordered the Catfish Basket. Everything was delicious as we had hoped it would be. Service was wonderful. We got to try a sample of the ribs (which solidified my choice for the Smoke on the Bone plate) and someone checked up on us to make sure we were okay. And prices were not too bad. We went to Smokey John 3x during our vacation in Dallas and it did not disappoint! Food was DELICIOUS!!!!!! I had the fried catfish, collard greens and Mac and cheese each time. My husband had a Po'boy sandwich and fries. Absolutely delicious!! I was tempted to go back one more time with my Tupperware to take food back home, but my husband thought i was going too far (smh) Separate from the food, the entire staff was so pleasant and kind when we were there. We thought the jalapeño sausage was the best thing here! This was a different kind of bbq that was more vinegar based? Not 100% sure. It was MUCH different than pecan lodge for instance though. First time trying Dallas BBQ and I hit the jackpot! Rib meat was fall off the bone with just the right amount of smoke and char. The brisket was juicy and tender without being fatty. And the chicken was perfectly cooked and not dry. The sauce was perfect, as was the cole slaw. Mac & cheese, sweet potatoes and corn bread weren't the best I've had but complimented the meat nicely. I can now remove Smokey John's from my bookmarks. I came here straight from Love Field airport because I was starving. The inside was nice, clean, and roomy on the inside with a wonder smokey smell. The ordering is cafeteria style so I went down the line and got a brisket plate with 2 sides (mac and cheese, greens). I was given a choice of cornbread or Texas toast and I opted for the toast which none was ready. I was told that I would have a piece brought to my table and I proceeded to sit down and eat hard. I hate to say I didn't enjoy my food. There was nothing spectacular about the brisket flavor wise. I can at least say it was tender. The greens were tender but salty. The mac and cheese was probably the best out of everything but not great. I never saw that piece of Texas toast that was promised to me and I was not happy about that. It wasn't busy and I walked straight in and ordered when I got there so go figure. Being from Texas I expect a barbecue spot to deliver and Smokey Johns dropped the ball through poor food and service. I wouldn't come back nor could I recommend this place to anyone. It was more like 4 1/2 because it wasn't mind blowing but everything we tried was so good! We specifically chose this place due to its proximity to Lovefield airport (only 5min down the street). We had the brisket, turkey, ribs, hot links (my favorite), mac & cheese, slaw, beans, potato salad, Texas toast and cornbread. We also got a side of sauce but the meats were good seasoned as-is. It did have some rush and slow periods of people but we were able to push some tables together for our group. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The only negatives were the time it takes to get thru the line and get fried fish. I appreciate how everything is freshly cut and prepared but I kept wondering if the wait time was normal since it's set up like a Chipotle counter line? My cousin ordered the fish and started to get a little antsy but it came out within the stated timeframe. You are warned that it can take 15-20min for fried fish, however, the poor girl next to us waited over 30min, checked with the front a few times, but was ultimately told her ticket got lost. When it was time to leave this place, l looked to the left/right while starting my car and there was no one. I've been to Smokey John's a couple of times. The service is great. Each time I've been, staff were friendly and engaging. The food is pretty good as well. I've ordered the turkey and ribs on a prior visit. The turkey was a bit dry but loved the ribs. This visit, I ordered the ribs and sausage with okra and cabbage as sides. The cabbage is really good! I would definitely order again. The space is fairly big. Since there was a group of 8 of us, we sat in a separate section in the restaurant with larger tables.
