My boyfriend and I stopped by Smokey John's for dinner during our trip to Dallas and can confidently say this was the best BBQ we've had during all our trips to Texas. The brisket melted in our mouth and the ribs were so tender and tasty. I loved the flavor of the chicken. And from the BBQ sauces to choose from, the spicy was my favorite. This restaurant is pretty casual, with a window to order at and plenty of seating to choose from inside. We watched part of the hockey game they had on the tvs while we ate. The employees were really nice and made sure we had all we needed to enjoy our dinner. We will be back for more BBQ soon! read more

On our flight the flight attendant recommend this place. Its a few minutes from the airport. When we got there, it wasn't busy, there were a few people waiting for to go orders. I ordered a brisket sandwich with 2 sides and peach cobbler to go(no picture). The brisket was great. The Mac and cheese was good. The greens were decent, they didnt have a lot of flavor. Coming to Texas from California, one of the things I enjoy most, is being able to try all the different bbq locations Dallas has to offer. I was excited trying Smokey John's BBQ especially given how high the reviews are. The staff behind the cafeteria-style line were friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype during my visit on 1/2/2026. I arrived around 11:30 a.m., so I'm not sure if I was served older food, but the ribs were thin, dry, and burnt. The brisket was tough and lacked flavor. The yams were decent (6/10), and the mac and cheese was average (5/10). I'm hoping this was just an off day, because the reputation suggests better. This is a solid, family-owned and operated BBQ spot if you're looking to dodge the more popularized places in DFW. There's ample parking, a decent amount of seating, and you can tell the staff really prioritizes customer service -- which is rare, but definitely noticed and deeply appreciated. They offer a wide variety of sides, which I enjoy, especially as someone who doesn't eat pork. There were lots of pork-free dishes, which is a rare and welcome find. That said, the BBQ itself wasn't smoked or marinated the way I'm used to, and I wasn't a fan of having to ask for each condiment one by one (onions, jalapeños, BBQ sauce, etc.). We got to try a sample of the ribs (which solidified my choice for the Smoke on the Bone plate) and someone checked up on us to make sure we were okay. And prices were not too bad. It was more like 4 1/2 because it wasn't mind blowing but everything we tried was so good! We specifically chose this place due to its proximity to Lovefield airport (only 5min down the street). We had the brisket, turkey, ribs, hot links (my favorite), mac & cheese, slaw, beans, potato salad, Texas toast and cornbread. We also got a side of sauce but the meats were good seasoned as-is. It did have some rush and slow periods of people but we were able to push some tables together for our group. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The only negatives were the time it takes to get thru the line and get fried fish. I appreciate how everything is freshly cut and prepared but I kept wondering if the wait time was normal since it's set up like a Chipotle counter line? My cousin ordered the fish and started to get a little antsy but it came out within the stated timeframe. You are warned that it can take 15-20min for fried fish, however, the poor girl next to us waited over 30min, checked with the front a few times, but was ultimately told her ticket got lost. We thought the jalapeño sausage was the best thing here! This was a different kind of bbq that was more vinegar based? Not 100% sure. It was MUCH different than pecan lodge for instance though. I can now remove Smokey John's from my bookmarks. I came here straight from Love Field airport because I was starving. The inside was nice, clean, and roomy on the inside with a wonder smokey smell. The ordering is cafeteria style so I went down the line and got a brisket plate with 2 sides (mac and cheese, greens). I was given a choice of cornbread or Texas toast and I opted for the toast which none was ready. I was told that I would have a piece brought to my table and I proceeded to sit down and eat hard. I hate to say I didn't enjoy my food. There was nothing spectacular about the brisket flavor wise. I can at least say it was tender. The greens were tender but salty. The mac and cheese was probably the best out of everything but not great. I never saw that piece of Texas toast that was promised to me and I was not happy about that. It wasn't busy and I walked straight in and ordered when I got there so go figure. Being from Texas I expect a barbecue spot to deliver and Smokey Johns dropped the ball through poor food and service. I wouldn't come back nor could I recommend this place to anyone. My wife loves the new state fair foods. She saw the local fox channel featuring Smokey John's smoked pastrami. Since pastrami is made from brisket I was intrigued. We live about 90 minutes north of John's but a trip to love field seemed like the perfect opportunity to try them. I will say this sandwich is only available Friday and Saturdays for a limited time. This was an amazing sandwich I mean the most delicious moist meat I've had. Service on rye bread with a slice of Swiss. I've had the famous Katz deli pastrami I think this is better. Just when I thought it could not be better, I bought their Friday only turkey dinner to go. Holly cow I got home a few our later and had I Fork full of the dressing, maybe the best I have had. And the yams OMG. Brothers Brent and Juan are doing their dad John proud. The brother were working augmenting staff and just interacting with customers. I was visiting in town and had a craving for hot links. So I looked up this place and had my brother take me there for the first time. Well let me say the atmosphere was chilled and not over crowded. But the staff was super amazing! They greeted us when we arrived and explained how to order food. We both ordered the fried fish basket, it came with five pieces and fries. I got small greens and Mac&Cheese. Greens were good and same with Mac&Cheese. Also, I got the hot link basket with fries, to go, ordered with no salt. We had to wait about 15-20 on the fish basket and it was worth it. They came hot and seasoned very well. My brother was full and enjoyed it. I had sweet tea and peach cobbler for dessert, which I brought back to the motel for later. And to top it off, the Sons owner stopped over to thank us for coming and had a wonderful demeanor.
