Told me that the blower motor was not fixable; needed to be completely replaced. Quoted me a flat $9200.00 for the motor and replacement. I did some research and saw that the identical motor retailed for around $3200. Even given them the benefit of the doubt for extra costs for shipping, etc., they were clearly going to charge me north of $5000 for labor to install a completely self contained unit that attaches to the roof with only a handful of bolts and a single electrical connection. (I also confirmed that blower motors are worked on all the time and do not always need replacement at the first sign of a problem). I therefore got a second opinion. The other company I had come out confirmed that the rattle was in fact NOT coming from the blower motor at all, but from a loose piece in a different motor serving the flue vent. They charged me $500 plus tax for parts and labor to fix it. $500. Done. So, Maco (1) misdiagnosed the problem, (2) lied to me that blower motors cannot be repaired in any scenario, and then (3) gave me a wildly inflated bid in the hopes that my ignorance would be to their benefit. Criminal.

I called the owner and blame was placed on staff. I agreed to move forward with a new appointment even though the owner was still vague about the time that i could expect someone however today again NO ONE showed up, NO call and NO reply to my call for a status. In the end I am going to another company. I may have dodged a bullet if their work is as bad as their professionalism.

The next day when Tony from Superior Chimney came to the house he was really friendly and knowledgeable and after going up to the roof to look at my chimney he confirmed that the issue wasn't bigger than I thought and gave me a formal estimate. They started working the following Monday and finished up within a few days and the fireplace worked perfectly again. I highly recommend their service - not only because it was professional and affordable, but because they were so friendly, honest and knowledgeable. I have heard some horror stories of bad contractors, but I understand they have been in business for over 50 years, so they truly know what they're doing!

Outside of the lucky timing, I was also lucky that Brian was very responsive, professional and customer service focused. He promptly returned calls/texts, was quick to come out and assess the work, and very communicative about the whole process. AND they did an excellent cleaning job for a very reasonable fee. I seriously wish I had found him before selling my house... it would have saved me *hours* of time cleaning. One note if you use any softwashing service - the results are amazing, but the cleaner solution does impact some sensitive plants. Half of the vegetation around my home is completely fine, but some herbs and other container plants were impacted. They'll grow back just fine, but did need a good trimming after being exposed. With this, I would not stop it from using Einstein Softwash again... I would just cover or move those plants :)

Great, speedy response. A gentleman from the company came out, took a look at the trouble areas and we talked about repairing/replacing the flashing around the skylights as they weren't properly done when skylights were replaced by another company. We also discussed cleaning of skylights and possibly the roof as well. I went back inside while he went to "write up the estimate(s)", thinking he would come back inside when done. After a short while, I went out to see if he was still here. Nope! He was gone. I then looked to see if he left estimate somewhere outside or in mailbox. Nope! Again, nothing. Forward to a couple days later, thinking maybe the estimate was emailed to me; checked both inbox and "spam" ... third Nope! On January 26, I texted Travis (a VP of company) asking about this. No reply from him either. Tried emailing them directly but that is not an option as it always "there was an error...". If they didn't want the job, it would have been nice to know, no harm, no foul. What upsets me the most is they were highly recommended by a good friend. Guess I expected a more professional way of doing business.
