Had Genesis Home Services replace a 36 year old chase cover on one of our fireplaces in Maple Valley mid June 2026. Also had them replace the wood trim around the top of this zero clearance fireplace. It took about two weeks for the fabrication of the new stainless steel chase cover. This wasn't an easy install, 28' up on a 8/12 pitched roof. David, the project manager showed up with two workers and got the job done in about five hours. They did a great job, removed old chase and wood trim around the top, installed new chase, wood trim and painted all new material to match existing house color. I had three other chimney companies come out and give bids, none really seemed interested in doing this job, all were looking for masonry work or a bigger project. I called Genesis and they quoted me $149 for a chimney sweep. After they failed to show up in the 9AM-11AM window, I called them to see if they needed to cancel, and was told a tech would call me. An hour later, a guy quietly knocks on my front door. He asks me what I'd like done, and I say that I'm just looking to have the chimney swept. Guy: It's not a chimney. Me: Oh, sorry, flue. Guy: Nah, that's a pipe because it's connected to a wood stove. Me: Uh... Sure, as long as you can clean it. What follows is about five minutes of him jimmying the stovepipe/flue while trying to upsell me on a $650 "deep clean", before eventually getting a section off. When he does this, it's at a bend where some creosote has built up, and it dumps onto the wood stove. He says he can't do an inspection, can't do a basic cleaning, and can only do the $650 deep clean. I explain that I'm not prepared to spend four times what I was expecting, and he asks if I can do "$500 flat". That's still way more than I was expecting and I say no, so he puts the flue back together and asks me to Venmo him $29 for coming out to do the quote. Later that day, I call Genesis back to check the numbers and see if they were in the right ballpark. They refused to say any prices or price ranges whatsoever and said I'd have to talk to a specialist. I say I'm fine with that but it needs to not be the last guy (and give his name). Specialist calls me back a few minutes later - guess who it is? Same guy! He asks why I'm calling again and I explain that I was surprised by the prices he quoted and was trying to check them with the company. Guy: "Are you calling me a liar?" Me: "I don't know you, dude, I was just surprised and wanted to double-check the numbers." Guy: "ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR?" Me: "No - " Guy: "YOU GO DO YOUR RESEARCH AND SEE HOW MUCH IT COSTS" *CLICK* I called one more time to let their "dispatch" know about our last interaction, but I doubt random call center worker is going to do anything about it. Edit: Ben from Genesis called after this review to try and work something out and asked if I would delete the review. I declined as I'd already schedule service from another company. He also said that their maximum price on a deep clean is $450, so the guy who came out was apparently trying to skim $200 off the top. And for what it's worth, I called Fire Safe right afterwards. They quoted me $169 and I double-checked that there were no extra markups or anything like that for having the audacity to want the *whole* chimney swept. Edit 2: The guy from Fire Safe sent me this message after he did his sweep and inspection: "You can quote me on this, the sweep you had come in to do the cleaning was incompetent or trying to rip you off, there is no such thing as a "deep clean(ing)" in chimney sweeping, it is either a sweep or a roto-cleaning. If a chimney sweep ever says anything about a "deep cleaning" tell them you're not interested in their services, send them away, and call another chimney sweep. - Roger Austin with Fire Safe Chimney Sweep & Repair" Genesis has continued to reach out to me and ask me to delete this review. They claim that they're taking steps to make sure that this doesn't happen in the future, but it doesn't change the basic fact that they don't appear to have their own people to do work and just subcontract out to others. I reached out to Genesis Home Services to get a quote and Dave was extremely responsive and replied right away. The price was $229 per chimney for the first 9 ft and $10 for every ft after that. I did not get a quote from other companies because the few I contacted were either slow or booked all the way to November. I made the appointment with Dave and he sent a reminder using Yelp right away. On the day of my appointment I met David from Genesis. He wore a mask and was very attentive to make sure I see what the current condition of my chimney was. He then went up to the roof to check the chimney cover. After that he spent about 1 hour cleaning the chimney and showed me how dirty my chimney was. Super sketched out by the tech from this company...very unethical and charging random fees that company doesn't authorize. I called to schedule a chimney cleaning, and they quoted a basic cleaning at $149 and price could go up depending on length of chimney and special cleaning needed. I was told they would send a tech out to take a look and give me an estimate, at which time I could decide if I wanted to move forward. No mention was made of extra visit fees. The technician, Ben, came by and took one look up the chimney damper with his phone flashlight and barely looked at the chimney from the outside (never went on roof, just looked at brick fireplace from outside for less than a minute). We have a one story house, and have not built many fires in it (maybe 15 times or so), and we had the house chimney inspected without issues only a year and a half ago. He then quoted me $640 for grease which meant we needed a "deep cleaning" and another $200+ dollars for some kind of unspecified chemical treatment and said that a normal cleaning wasn't possible given that what he saw. I asked him to show me exactly what he saw with his flashlight that led to that conclusion so quickly, and he just pointed to some very thin layer of black on my damper (it was a small circle of black and you could still see the metal underneath, it was barely there)... I told him we would be getting another quote before proceeding but thanks for coming out. He then says it'll be $29 just for coming out to give the estimate. I offered to pay with card, but he said they don't take card and could only take cash, venmo, or cash app. At this point I was sketched out, so I asked him if they could send me the invoice from company and I would pay that way to make sure it was official. He said they couldn't do an invoice. So I called the phone number and talked to Carol on the phone while Ben stood right next to me, and I asked about the $29 fee that could only be paid via cash or payment app. Carol said they do no such thing and that estimates are free. I verified multiple times that there was no fee. Very awkward situation...I offered to put her on speaker, but Ben just said he could hear just fine, and left. This interaction really left a bad impression and made me feel like I was being taken advantage of, and I will not be trusting this company or asking them to come out again. read more

After several attempts to find a business that would fix my fireplace issue, I found Genesis Home Service and the process erased all the stress I had felt up to that point. They were incredibly responsive and able to set up an appointment for estimate quickly. The team member they sent out was David, and he was extremely professional and skilled at identifying the problem and estimating work. While he was on the roof, he even helped identify a major rot issue that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. I know what you're thinking, oh they're looking for more work or an upsell, but no. Genesis doesn't handle that kind of repair, he was just looking out. Much appreciated. I went with their estimate and they immediately ordered the part and stayed in close contact about scheduling the repair. I work from home currently so I had great flexibility, but they were very accommodating to scheduling the best fit for me. David arrive promptly, performed the fireplace roof exhaust repair like a surgeon, in and out, and only left after showing my photos of the repair and ensuring everything was good with me. The invoice came immediately and electronically which was very convenient for payment (there's even a pay-in-installments option just like any online shopping checkout would offer in case you need it). The price was exactly as agreed upon and no hiccups at all. I have the documentation I need for my landlord and, more importantly, a fantastic new addition to my list of reliable companies to work with here in Seattle. 10 out of 5 stars. After reading the good reviews on here I called and was able to easily get an appointment. As expected someone showed up to evaluate the work need on my chimney. The technician that showed up did explained to me that he was not the company I had called to schedule with. He has a partner and the partner was the one I scheduled with but due to over scheduling the partner gave my appointment to him. I called and confirmed this. I didn't see an issue with that and appreciated the clarification. After about 20 mins of assessment, he explained that he needed to go back to the office and will write up an estimate for cost and what needed to be done. I was charged for this visit and was told it will be credited to my total bill if I decide to move forward with the estimate. I should be expecting the estimate to be sent. After a week of no communication from Genesis, even after leaving voice mail, I was finally able to reach someone. Between the partnership relationships within this company, no one seems to know who I am and what service I was waiting for. After getting the run around three different times from the "partners", I finically received a called back only to be told with no explanation, " we cannot help you. No, we can't help you." I asked for an explanation and all I got was "we can't help you." I asked WHAT is it they can't help me with since I have not received the estimate I had paid for. I continue to get a refusal of help and the called hung up on me with no explanation. Don't use Genesis. I may be the exception with 10 other great services but can this be a legitimate service if you willing charge and take money without rendering service? I requested a chimney inspection and Ben arrived at the schedule time and helped with an examination on our wood burning fireplace. He identified the issue being lack of deep cleaning at the beginning, and scheduled a deep cleaning in two days. Ben brought all the needed equipment over on the scheduled deep cleaning day, and did a great work to clean up our main chimney, which has not been cleaned for many years. He thoroughly cleaned it up and tested the fireplace. Then it was found that the extra smoke was coming from using a wrong chimney cap. Ben and technician visited us again after the rain stopped, and replaced our chimney cap with the proper one. Now we can finally use our fireplace! They misled me in their website and initial quote; and after waiting two weeks for service, ultimately canceled their appointment in anger at my complaint. My wife and I moved into a new home, and after 6 months working our gas fireplace stopped in the middle of winter. We tried our wood fireplace and it spilled smoke into the house. Assuming I needed a sweep for the wood fireplace and service for the gas fireplace I found this advertised with positive reviews for a gas fireplace issue that was identical and a discount price on chimney sweeping. I asked for both services and got a response about the discount including general inspection. Happy with the response, I was scheduled for two weeks out. (That was very understandable during these COVID delays.) After waiting two weeks in a cold house with some space heaters to keep us warm, the technician (Ben) came out. Ben was very friendly and I would rate him 5-stars for his helpful attitude and cheerful greetings. I had Ben look at the gas fireplace and he said that he would have to call the office to send someone else out. I was already disappointed. I had asked for both services, but I didn't know if that was a simple mistake. Ben gave me the bad news about our chimney being full and blocked with soot... but I was not surprised. It would be an additional service fee for a deep cleaning, but I understood. When he gave me an electronic quote to approve I asked if they would be giving me my gas fireplace inspection for free later. Ben called the office to talk to his supervisor Dave. Easy scheduling. Dubious quote for services. Tech was dirty from chimney work earlier in the day and left marks on our carpet. When confronted with a switch that didn't keep continuity, tech stated that we needed a new thermostat which they said was only available in wireless form, then quoted a high price. When we asked for alternatives his price quoted went even higher for the same scope of work. Company left us feeling like they were trying to take advantage of us. BTW original fireplace is not equipped with a thermostatic cutoff. Originally we were told that fee would also include cleaning. Tech did no cleaning. Company really felt sketchy. read more

To diagnose, clean and exchange the remote and receiver took all of 30 minutes. Both the receiver and remote were in his truck so everything was completed to our greatest satisfaction. Tech came near the end of a 3 hours window to inspect a leaking chimney and converting that woodburning fireplace into vented gas log set. The "technician" did not take a look at the chimney, or the attic for the leak, or the fireplace for that matter and seemed to have zero knowledge about any of the things mentioned before. When I explicitly asked him to look at the fireplace, he looked at it for 5 seconds and said "looks good". Then I provided him with some photos of the leak in the attic of the chimney, he said he would forward those to the "expert" and give me a quote. Quote never came. I wouldn't recommend this company. Very unreliable. I scheduled my air duct cleaning and called to confirm my appointment twice in the week of the service. On the day of, they were late so I called to inquire. At that point they told me that I was NOT on the schedule and that they could NOT service my home as the ducts were on the ceiling. I stated that during my initial call, they confirmed that they would be able to service ducts on the ceiling and proceeded to schedule me in. All she could say was "Sorry, we can't help you.
