The secondary air tube is visibly significantly bowed, the firebricks are destroyed or missing, the ceramic baffles aren't even there anymore. I requested a fireplace inspection and chimney cleaning and got told 9am-noon. The inspector showed up at noon, took a picture up the insert with the flash on and told me it was rusty. Didn't go on the roof to inspect the chimney cap or flashing, didn't offer to scope the insert to see if it was deteriorated, didn't even turn the blower on to see if it worked. Then I pull the outside cover of the firebox off myself and find the flue isn't even attached to the firebox. Once I show him and he tells me he can put some high heat duct tape on it instead of mechanically securing it first. I explain that I'm not looking for a temporary fix and he says it will work fine, it's an old stove. At this point I just want to pay him so he can leave so I can google the obvious issues myself. If you can't physically buy $50 of chimney sweep tools and clean it yourself and would rather pay someone $400 (I talked him down to $350) to do it then go for it. If you're looking for a professional to do professional work then look elsewhere.

Our fireplace is older and had a crack in the bottom of the metal. Asher explained how those happen (age/heat) and why it matters (you lose heat out the crack and can be unsafe/uncontained)-- as well as the severity of our issue (not that bad, lucky for us!). They can charge up to 3% for credit cards. Nevertheless, the good folks are the office were very nice about reversing the double-charge. I am waiting to see when it comes through. Pro's - Basic work seemed to be done well and at a price that was competitive with others I contacted at least for the basic service. - Communication was prompt. - After some re-scheduling on their part, the team did the work swiftly and efficiently. - Most of the terms were clear in advance, using Yelp Projects. Con's - This is a fairly shiesty corner of the home maintenance world. Many providers seem to give you a low-ball estimate to get in the door and then upsell significantly. - Envirosmart is not an exception. - The initial quote was $200. This included scoping the ducts and doing the negative pressure clean-out. - Onsite, they then upsold me to $670 for a more thorough brushing of the vents, sanitation, and some other ancillary services. - They were only modestly well-organized. They called the day-of to reschedule because of a conflict with internal training. They also confirmed a different time than I had originally scheduled. It was the difference of a 9 to 11am original window and a 2:30-3pm arrival. - The Yelp Project communication could have been clearer. They did not specify whether they were calling to quote me or coming to do the service! Amid all this and with some clarification and flexibility on our part, we worked it out. I would have appreciated either a discount or additional service for the delay. None was proffered. I did not go ahead with the upsell as I had already gotten quotes for less from other providers with somewhat more transparent pricing. I think the work they did appeared fine. See attached pics. Your guess is as good as mine which are before and which are after! They did not specify when they sent them to me and email took off the timestamp. I'm hoping the cleaner ones. I probably will try another service when I do this again and with a higher rated provider. All in all, though, I had low expectations and those low expectations were met.

They went through every single vent in the house, inspected every single nook and cranny to determine what would be needed, including the furnace itself. Secondly, they were very patient in revising their estimates several times after every unnecessary question that I asked them with requests for revisions. Thirdly, they came over exactly at the time specified, got to work right away, were very friendly, and didn't ask for anything. It is $65 for them to come out and assess the issue, which is waived if you decide to go through with the repair. They are transparent with the quote and will wait for you to approve before work is done. He replaced a few compressor parts and had my fridge working and ready in a jiffy! Cost around $600 for parts and labor. All around great experience.
