A bit of a disappointment since this is one of the higher rated restaurants on the island. Service was ok. Super casual inside. 3 meat platter was $37. Everything tasted very cheap and/or premade. The kielbasa doesn't deserve to be called that, that's some stuff from the grocery store. The Cole slaw tastes just like store bought. Everything was quite bland. Cornbread was dry. I've eaten a lot of BBQ and I smoke my own at home and Smokey's is pretty damn good. Our house was bombarded with the Smokey aroma goodness starting last night and we had to get something for lunch. Didn't really know what to expect with a couple mixed reviews on Yelp (you'll note I totally disagree with the negative reviews) so we ordered three sandwiches - pulled pork, pulled chicken and a half and half (I asked nicely and they said yes- Yay me). Both meats were cooked to a perfect tenderness-not chewy, not dry. The sandwiches are actually quite large compared to what you get up in North Jersey - they don't skimp on the meat. We also got a side of cornbread and a side of macaroni salad. We all agreed that the chicken was a little tastier than the pork...the pork was close but needed a little something that we couldn't put our taste buds on (again, it was cooked perfectly). Perhaps I just needed a tiny bit more sauce (their sauce was quite tasty). Cornbread, which was warm, was great, but the macaroni salad had a little too much mayo for my liking. Overall, between the tortuous aromas, the delicious food and the very friendly service it seems as though we found another great place to come back to the next time we visit. Great food and bang for your buck. When I called in asked for a suggestion to feed a group of six they referred me to the family combos. The server offered great suggestions for sides and they did not disappoint. The ribs and pulled pork were perfectly seasoned. I wish the brisket was little more juicy, but overall a great find. Food was good, I had purchased it with the previous owner, under the new owner, we were charged for food we didn't order, 1 of the orders was a sandwich only @ $16.50 but charged us for a combo meal at $22.50. when I confronted the owner, he was trying to figure his own computer system, first I was told it was the tax, then he couldn't figure out why it was more. Now mind you we are talking about 4-7 dollar difference. It's the point that we are being charged for something we didn't even get. My husband really liked his pulled pork however I was disappointed tonight with my baby back ribs. They were cold and a bit rare, my corn on the cob tasted like 2 day old corn feed which is surprising as there is so much fresh corn available. The cole slaw is good. If a group or couple were to come to your establishment and purchase food do you require and ask for both or all names so you have it on record in case the need arises or for potential future negative experiences?? It does not make sense. Someone can pay in cash, give a fake name, middle name, even a nickname, use a spouses card, etc. there are numerous possibilities as to how someone can purchase things without you having a "correct" record of them. What hurts your business if the food that I and my group was served. It was disappointing and unappetizing. A shame really considering it had so much potential. But when you start serving bricks to your customers from being in a heater/Warmer all day, expect a negative review. I, nor anyone else, for that matter must call up and tell you the food wasn't good and complain or request a refund. I can simply try the food, throw it out, and write a review to warn others before purchasing; which is exactly what I chose to do. Additionally the ending of my review that had "I f" was a mistype on my end while I was posting and I had forgotten to remove it, thank you for pointing that out because now, as you can see, I have corrected it. Smokey's was really excellent and a great value for money on the island. I got a pulled pork combo sandwich, which comes with a big sandwich, cole slaw, and a beverage from the cooler. Sandwich was a 10/10, nice and big and had a great smokey flavor. Cole slaw was very wet so i didn't enjoy it that much, probably a 4/10. Back again for Fathers Day and again was blown away. We had the "Bite of Smokey's" which was a1/2 pound sampling of all the meats, side salads, and rolls. I never had smoked Turkey salad before, but am totally hooked. That'll be my go to beach sandwich this year. You have to try it. Amazing sandwiches. Brisket just melts in your mouth. Pulled pork is top notch. The bbq beans are mixed every morning and are the perfect southern sweet taste. Cole slaw was working for me as well. Had early lunch here then had to come back same day after the beach. Owner is very friendly, truly proud of his work and happy to share stories from his fireman days. That history is worked into the design of the establishment so worth pointing out. Last thing to mention is this is for take out only. There are no seats inside. Clearly the best ribs on the island. Tender, soft, melts in your mouth bbq.
