We stopped here on our way to the Great Northern and Cascade Railway steam trains. The BBQ is better than what I've had in Seattle. The brisket had a nice smoke ring, the ribs were our favorite, and the sides were all good (cowboy caviar, collared greens and green beans were my favorites). The staff are super friendly and welcomed our group of three families with kids. Of course, the kids loved their post meal free ice cream. They serve the PNW Tillamook. We decided to stop here to eat during our stay in Skykomish after a long day of hiking. You're supposed to order up at the counter then take a seat. We decided on the Mac and cheese, fries, and crispy chicken salad. It tasted really good after hiking scenic lake (brutal but worth it hike). But I wouldn't say it was anything amazing. We hardly ate our order of fries, which we ordered because the waitress told us a pound of fries sound like a lot but really isn't. It got super busy and backed up really fast causing people to be hovering over our table. Also, prices were a bit off. I noticed the menu said $4 for 4 oz of Mac and cheese and I was charged $5. Ribs were great, hot link sausage was good and brisket could have been a little more tender on our visit. Sides were fine. Sauce is a matter of taste and we prefer a bit more bite in ours. Very good BBQ - we've especially enjoyed the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. Mac 'n Cheese got raves, and the fries are solid. Beautiful smoke rings on the meat, great depth of flavor and the right balance of sweet and spice. Beer selection is fitting for such a spot, but would like to see a solid NW Pilsner in the mix. Will continue to be a spot we stop on our trips over the Pass. Only docking a star because of how chilly the place is in colder seasons. Coats never come off and we're still shivering a bit as we eat (no doubt cools off the fries faster too). read more

Found this little gem of a bbq spot in Skykomish along the side of the road. Luckily they us they've just been open for 4 weeks! The staff is super friendly and sweet. The hot sauce selection was great, only complain is that that didn't have a spicer one (I like a lot of heat)! I ordered the Southern Style Fried Catfish and it comes with 2 sides, collard greens and red beans and rice. The whole plate for $18! The fried cat fish was 5 stars! Blow me right out of my chair how fresh the catfish was! Not muddy tasting at all! The batter was some sort of a crispy crunchy corn meal and not overly battered at all. The collard greens was so delicious I couldn't help but order a second serving! The red beans and rice was legit! Just a perfect pairing! Will come back for whenever we are passing by again! The reviews were intriguing so we had to stop to sample the BBq. You'll come for the food and return for Becky! She is simply a delight. We were staying in Skykomish and on a scenic drive and decided to swing by to eat. I gather by the reviews that it may not be nessissarily locals reviewing this spot. You walk in and there is a small gift shop and then you meet Becky, the GM. We chatted for a minute about the menu and went with her recommendations of BBQ feast for 2 or 3. It should be for 4....whew so much yummy food...chicken...beef....pork.. corn bread and 2 sides. Needless to say we are having leftovers for dinner (and probably lunch ). We had to take some dessert and the pie is made by a local woman who doesn't have a storefront but just enjoys making pies. We will sample that tonite! Three friends and I were headed over to Leavenworth this past Friday. Hoping to stop around Gold Bar or Skykomish for food, we grew worried as most places had no lights on and signs turned off. Fearing the worst, we continued on with empty stomachs. We spotted the faint glow of flashlights inside Smokey's, immediately turned off, and discovered the area was having a power outage! They graciously served us what they had, and even with only a few dishes possible it was delicious. Well worth the stop if heading to Stevens or the area for other snow activities. Very, very good! We got the bbq bowl with chicken and the train wreck with brisket. Both were delicious! I would issue a warning if you order the chicken: I had about 10, small bones in my dish. We drive past this place a few times a year on trips out to Leavenworth. Always sad to see the building closed, so when we saw it open we stopped in and wow. Glad we did. We got their garlic fries and a sample platter of three meats, bbq pork, beef brisket, and ribs. The potato salad and Cole slaw were good, the meats all tender and beautifully flavored, and the garlic fries were top notch. Devoured before we got photos, unfortunately. We sat in the car waiting for them to show up when someone came out and told us to move our car, he must have been an owner or something. We read the reviews and were excited to try some good old fashion bbq until he told us that we should either "go inside or leave." So we told the rest of the group to meet us at a different location. Fantastic place! Had the St. Louis style ribs half rack with collards and cole slaw sides. Some of the best ribs I've had in a long time. Generous cuts and generous people. I'm not sure what went into their collard greens but OMG! Wanted to live in them! Take a good look at the menu and you will see, these people have their hearts in a good place.
