Staff and service were great! The brisket was surprisingly bad; very dry, a bit hard, and no flavor. It would be considered bad if it was from a grocery store prepared food counter, but from an actual BBQ place and at this price, it was inexcusably bad. First the good: service was excellent, facilities were clean and food came out quickly. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. Chopped brisket sandwich tasted like day-old pot roast with a little BBQ sauce on it. The baby back ribs were under done and tough plus the powdered spices on top made it feel like I was eating sand. Even the cole slaw, that looked freshly made, tasted close to straight cabbage rather than having any dressing on it. Went to brileys at around 4:30 on a Sunday and there were folks there but not too busy, was def a lot busier when we left so I think we just missed the rush. Overall I really liked this spot and I would come back. The brisket was super good, and then chicken sandwich was really good. I also liked the collared greens and corn a lot and wished the corn was a constant feature on the menu. I also really liked the beignets. We all thought the pulled pork was dry and that the Mac and cheese wasn't very cheesy but the flavor and pepper was good. I liked their house sauces, the sweet was too sweet for me but I could def see kids seeing it and I liked combining the mild and spicy for my perfect sauce. The service was really really great, they checked on us multiple times to see when they should give us our beignets bc they wanted to give it to us fresh at the end which I really appreciated. I had enjoyed eating here in the past, but over time I've noticed what feels like a decline in overall food quality. I've also seen other recent customer reports describing negative experiences, which raises some eyebrows. On Sunday, February 8th (Super Bowl Sunday), we stopped in for a meal. I ordered the beef brisket + sides. Unfortunately, after eating here - that night & the following day my partner, and I both became sick with food poisoning. I became extremely ill with severe vomiting, headache, and systemic symptoms consistent with food poisoning. I had not eaten anywhere else that day or previous day. The severity of the illness was significant and unlike anything I've experienced before. It felt as if I was on my deathbed - I wasn't able to eat for an entire week. I had to cancel work. When I contacted the establishment and asked to speak with a manager, my concerns felt dismissed and I was told I must have gotten sick elsewhere, which was not the case. I enjoy a lot of bbq and this was a solid spot, couldn't really complain about anything and I enjoy they had fries! Ribs were the #1 thing I had and we had everything I think. Mac n cheese was solid, kids chicken and fries were solid for family with picky small kids. I enjoy Texas brisket at another spot so it wasn't my favorite but was still really good. My wife got baby back ribs and they were fall of the bone dry and where way over smoked! My god, it was like eating liquid smoke. My suspicion is that we got microwaved proteins. I really love this local bbq spot. The smoke is really unique and it elevates the ribs and brisket. I've never been much of "sides" person and hands down the portions of meat in the beans and the collard green and pork really stand out. I could eat those all day. The Mac n cheese and coleslaw are delicious and pair really well with the cornbread. I enjoy all of their proteins and tried their pulled pork and chicken. Now that summer is approaching, it is warm enough to sit outside and they are also dog-friendly (they prefer you to sit outside though). Located on lake City way, it's an easy miss if you drive to fast, but Brileys has a great layout with both indoor and outdoor seating. In the summer it's a great place to go outside with your dogs and enjoy good BBQ. At Brileys you order first and sit wherever you want. There is not a long wait and the food is brought out quickly and piping hot. I love how most everything is served dry and their 3 sauces are delicious in different ways. The sweet is bright and tangy, medium has a lovely mustard/vinagry flavor and I love the spicy with its delicious deep notes. My husband got the dorfmanm platter which really allows for customability. He got the pit beef which is spicy and tender and sliced brisket. He got a side of cornbread and Mac and cheese. He wasn't expecting the pit beef to be spicy, but he was able to eat it easily as it wasn't overpowering. He didn't even share his cornbread, which said a lot. I ordered the Harry Stamper Sandwich with seasonal veggies and also added a side of Mac and cheese. This is a personal favorite of mine. I love that jalapeno sausage with the pulled pork. I feel like I get more than a sandwich worth. Because it comes dry you get to decide how much sauce you want. I am biased and love their spicy BBQ. The seasonal vegetables this time came with brussel sprouts roasted with this lemon vinaigrette. It was bright and delicious. Like always the Mac and cheese is velvety and delicious. The sides are good--collared greens and hush puppies were great. SERVICE: Expect to be prompted to pay 20%-15% tip even though you order your food yourself, get your own drinks, and pickup extra plates on your own. If you want extra food like getting another beer, you have to get back in line to order it and tip again.
