Instead I tried a Wagyu burger. They have five different Wagyu burgers and I settle on the one closest to a cheeseburger. It had been a long time since I had one and I was way overdue. It was delicious. For my side I tried the collard greens. They offer five different sauces to spike the collards with, but I chose to eat them with the way they came out of the kitchen - a vinegar-based splash of heat. I could've eaten a bowl of them, they too were delicious. It was a bit after lunch so it wasn't very busy. The bartender was knowledgeable about the menu, sides, entrees, apps, and sauces which helped with making my decisions prompt. The front of house is setup to handle families and groups of friends with booths and 6-top tables, however the place may fill up fast. Based on the amount of missing merch, many folks try and like and appreciate this place. Parking could be tricky, but there's more public parking on the streets than most towns I've visited, so be patient looking for on-street parking and if necessary one could use the parking garage close to the cordoned-off block where some great food on this block lives. I had to park down the road and walk to the restaurant, which is already annoying when you're picking up food. I placed my order with an estimated pickup time of 6:15. I arrived two minutes early, and my food was already just sitting on the bar counter. Not in a warmer. Not being bagged. Just sitting there. When I walked in, the hostess didn't greet me or say a word. I told her I was there for a pickup and she looked at me like I was lost, then said, "Go to the bar." No direction, no help -- just go to the bar. The bartender asked for my name, walked over to my bag, stood there looking confused, slowly walked back and said, "I don't see your name on there. What'd you order?" I explained it, and he casually walked back and grabbed the exact bag... with my name clearly printed on the receipt taped to it. It couldn't have been more obvious. By the time I got home, the food was extremely cold. The flavor was actually great -- I'll give them that -- but it honestly felt like my food was cooked the moment I placed the order and then just sat on that counter until I arrived. To make it worse, the total was $51 for portion sizes that were shockingly small. For South Carolina BBQ, that's pretty disappointing. Especially when items from my order were missing. Cold food. First let me preface this review with we did not eat here. I am reviewing the bar only. We went in for a few cocktails and to watch a ballgame at the bar. They have good TV setups and there were less than a dozen people in the entire restaurant so it was easy to hear the game as well as watch. There were cocktail tents on the bar advertising drink specials. We ordered a White Russian and a pink fruity drink from those cards. The male bartender was very friendly but admitted it was his first week. He did not know how to make either drink but he tried. Neither were "correct" but he was nice so we made concessions and drank them. we went easy on next round. Whiskey on the rocks and Rum & Coke. Attached is our receipt where we were charged an additional $1.50 for ROCKS- the ICE in that drink. I watched the pour. It was 1 normal shot glass and then a small amount of ice added. It was not an extra pour or 1.5 shots to constitute $1.50 surcharge. The ice charge was more than the $1.20 surcharge for the credit charge. I have never been charged for ice in a cocktail. If you were adding more alcohol than a normal shot show it in the cost of the drink. But this drink was a measured shot glass pour and not a drop more. What the heck?!! Go to other downtown bars where you get a good cocktail at a fair price. You won't find that here. read more

My husband proclaimed The Smoking Butt Head "the standard by which all barbecue will now be measured ". We plan on stopping in again on our way home!! Very Embarrassing! We brought friends to Spartanburg for the first time, Friday night. Place was dead and it took over an hour to get the food. My wife's order was wrong and cold and our friends orders were both cold like they have been done for over an hour. After confronting the manager he explained he was new and so was the entire staff. We have been here many times before and the food has always been very good. Service has always been below average, but this was the last straw. My wife didn't even eat her meal because it was wrong and cold and still charged us. Very disappointed and will never come back. Ownership needs to be in the restaurant until it can get on its feet. We also waited 25 minutes for a beer. Absolutely unacceptable for a Friday night. They only had 1 bartender. Very disappointed as we want Spartanburg to grow this restaurant does not get it done. Super expensive and not worth the price and headache. They did a great job during the hurricane, but I'm not sure why has changed.
