The first couple of times was good and now it is unfortunately another mechanic that will fix things you don't need so they get the most out of your wallet. They fixed the issue but it is a very expensive mechanic that I am convinced will bill you for more time than it is taking them! read more

A few months ago, I stopped to get gas at a spot in Cambridge. Unsolicited, they told me that my brakes had 40% life yet, made me feel very uncomfortable about continuing to drive it, and told me they'd take care of it for $350. Having had previous positive experiences with Frank at Smooth Automotive, I decided to see him for a second opinion. I walked in without an appointment. Frank was kind and looked at my car right away. He calmed my anxieties, said I was fine to keep driving, and to come back late August to check back in with him - NO charge! I went back to see Frank today, again without an appointment. I was again greeted with kindness, and he immediately offered to take my car for a drive. He told me I was still good to keep driving, no need for pad replacements yet - and again, NO charge. Feel very fortunate to have found Frank and Smooth Automotive...and when it is time to replace the pads, I'll surely be taking my business back to him! read more

I've been really impressed with these guys. I've taken my car in to get a tire with a bubble taken care of, and they were very straightforward in explaining my options. Not pushy, just very full of useful and accurate information. Another time, when I took in my car to get the brakes checked out as they were near the end of their life, they advised me (correctly) that they still had another 3 months of life left in them, saving me a bit of money. They were even patient enough to take me into their workshop and show me the physical brake pads while the wheels were off, to indicate why I could still drive on them for another 3 months. So, to conclude: Honest, knowledgeable, and patient crew working at this shop. Have been a happy customer. read more

adding my voice to the many who have received great service here. Frank runs his shop with integrity, provides quality care for your car and goes the extra mile when necessary. My car is a clean diesel that requires VW approved lube, not something normally carried at most garages. But Frank was open to learning about my special need and got the right oil for my car. I got replacement tires there, too, after he took substantial time to discuss the options with me. Yesterday, I had a flat (those pesky potholes) and Frank replaced the tire right away. The staff are good, too. This is a smartly run, fairly priced, professional shop that takes time to both listen and inform the customer, and that knows what it's doing. Frank is awesome, honest! He tries to save you money. He is also very good at what he does. I went there for balance problem with my tires. He took his time to make it perfect. When I had a coolant leak problem, he took a look at it pointed out the source of the leak in 5 minutes where as 4 other mechanics before Frank could not even come close to the source. I was ripped off by them and still had to live with the leak after spending hundreds. I highly recommend Smooth Auto. read more

If I could put more stars, I would. After having Jack's Gas in North Cambridge defraud me and then treat me badly, I took my car to Smooth Automotive on the recommendation of someone who worked for Jack. I took in the receipts of the repairs Jack was suppose to have done and they reviewed everything. they then went over my car and called me, explaining everything that needed to be fixed. Most of it was cleaning up Jacks mess. I couldn't be happier. My car no longer sounds like it going to fall apart. No more vibrations, brakes are great.
