I came to Smooth Automotive to replace two of my tires under Michelin's warranty. I decided to go with this shop because they were a Michelin dealer and because of the great reviews here on Yelp. It was a good decision! The mechanic that helped me, Andy, was very friendly, polite, and helpful and took great care of me. He contacted Michelin to make sure they would cover the tire replacements due to bubbles forming in the tire sidewalls on my car, which had less than 7,000 miles on it. Michelin only ended up covering 45% of the cost of the tires, so I had to pay a decent amount out of pocket in addition to the $15/tire installation fee, though I see that as pretty fair. Finding a quality shop is REALLY hard. Thankfully, this place is phenomenal. Tried it out 4 years for my wife's Jeep and haven't been disappointed once. Last week I learned that my nana, who suffered from Alzheimer's, had been moved to Hospice after a fall and was not doing well. I planned to go home that evening but discovered I had a wheel bearing issue and wanted to get the car checked before driving all the way to CT. I called Smooth Automotive who told me to come by so they could do their best to look at my car, despite being really booked and busy. The staff was super supportive when they learned why I was so desperate to get my car cleared for travel. They took a look at it as soon as they could fit me in, and determined that my two front tires were bald and my rear tire had a nail stuck in it. Because they knew I was in a rush they agreed to plug the nail hole and swap the back tires with the front tires until I could replace them when I got back. When they went to plug the hole they discovered three really big gashes on the inside of the tire and told me I could absolutely not drive to CT with a tire like that. They promptly called multiple places to try and secure the three tires I needed before most places closed at 6. It was looking hopeless until their third or fourth call where they found the three tires I needed to match the fourth they'd replaced for me a year or two prior. They were quality tires, but still affordable. They picked up the tires and got them put on within the hour. They told me my wheel bearing could wait until I returned home and got me on my way. Because of Smooth Automotive I made it home in time to tell my Nana all I needed to say before she passed and while she could still hear me. They educated me- were incredibly kind and as a woman they made me feel completely capable and a fully competent human whom they were so glad to help and explain exactly what was happening. Ordered a set of winter tires from Tire Rack and had them sent to Smooth Automotive. Took about an hour but there was a cozy couch, coffee and Police Academy on the big screen. They did the tire swap and installed a set of mudflaps on my WRX. Best part was they do seasonal tire storage for a flat fee of $35. Highly recommended!!!!!!! read more

Our older (2007) Hyundai Santa Fe has the notorious fuel level sensor issue. I've taken both of my cars here and had a good experience overall. Prices are fair, and the quality of work done has been great. Smooth Automotive easily diagnosed and fixed a suspension issue that baffled several other shops. I have also had work done here for my other car. Their explanations of the problems and the solutions are very thorough and sensible. The only reason for not awarding 5 stars is that I wasn't told that the aftermarket replacement brakes for my car would end up being very noisy, and I wish I had been offered the chance to install OEM parts instead. On the bright side, the brakes work well, so I trust their overall quality of work and will continue to come back for my other car repairs. The hours are also great - they are open longer than other area shops during the weekdays, and relatively long Saturday hours make it convenient for me to come to the shop without scrambling to get to work on a weekday. read more

Two days ago I ran over a curb that was covered by a snow bank. My front tire blew out. I was having a bad week in general and this just ended it with a bang (literally!). I texted my friend who does general repairs on my car and told him what happened. He referred me to Brendan at Smooth Automotive. My friend said they would take good care of me. Boy, he hit it on the head. I called Brendan up and told him what happened to my car. He went over all the new tire options for my car. He explained the quality of the brands and did not pressure me whatsoever. We scheduled a time for me to come in the next day. I figured I'd go in, there would be a bunch of people getting work done on their cars and I'd have to wait for a few hours. Well, I was wrong. They took my car right away and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Their waiting area is very comfortable and their bathroom is really clean. Not only did they take care of the tire but they also made sure the VSA and EPS were working properly since the warning lights were on. The cost was surprisingly low and overall I couldn't have asked for a better experience. You guys have earned yourself a new customer and a new referrer. Thank you! read more

Chose this place based on previous commenters' reviews and its close proximity to our home in W. Medford. The problem with our 2000 Honda Accord is that a SRS light came on. We called several places and essentially their prices were in line with the 4-5 other places we called. It was an expensive repair (~$1000 for both parts and labor). First of all, we had a great and pleasant customer service experience from everybody here (my wife cannot stand it when people are not friendly or forthcoming). Second, they guarantee their work. After two weeks since the initial repair, that same SRS light came on. We called them and took us in and fixed the issue at no additional cost. If that's not peace of mind, then I don't know what is. I'll strongly consider Smooth Automotive for future car repairs (they don't just work on scooters by the way). read more

I was a loyal customer of Smooth Automotive's predecessor, Smooth Scooters, and now I come for the new and improved shop. I bring my Scion and my wife's Toyota here for all my auto service, because I've found they combine honesty, great work, and reasonable prices-- I'm not sure what else I'd want! Frank does pretty much all the auto work here, and he's also happens to do motorcycle inspections. A few months ago, he installed tire pressure monitors on my new wheels, and it ended up costing me a fraction of what the dealership was asking. A few weeks ago, he replaced the regulator and stator on a Suzuki motorcycle I bought on Craigslist, and it's been running great since then. Very Highly recommended. I brought my '09 BMW to have two of its 19" tires replaced, and I came away very, very satisfied with the service at Smooth Automotive. Frank (the owner) and Kelli (who I never met but spoke with over the phone) really seem to know their stuff, and I felt at totally at ease having them work on the car (yes, it's just replacing a tire, but I've had some bad experiences trying to get past tires without damaging the wheel). They let me hang by and watch for a while, were fine with putting on some lug nut locks for me while they were at it, and Frank also brought my wheel over to assure me there were no cracks since I had mentioned to him earlier being concerned about that. I was so satisfied with the service in fact that I'd feel comfortable having them do other, more complicated work on my car in the future, and so should you. So, in short: AVOID TOWN FAIR TIRE and go here instead. These guys are personable and know their stuff...and Town Fair Tire will seriously leave you waiting around for three hours to do even the simplest job (I know from experience). Turns out that I'm missing the lug nut that allows me to take off my tires (Bought the car used and the dealership should have provided me with the part along with the spare tire/jack).
