A beautiful new restaurant on Hess Lake, just South of Newaygo. A nice dining room with bar and glass walls that come up in the summer. The service was friendly and prompt even with a full house. I had the French onion soup - delicious, and buffalo wings. Plenty of good choices on the menu, but I was not that hungry. Make reservations because it's a popular place. Because it's on the water parking is limited but the have a lot across the street. Look forward to coming back and exploring the menu! read more

We went here for lunch today! Having grown up on the lake I went in with fairly low expectations, based on the dark and dank North Shore I had grown up with.... Boy, was I wrong! This new restaurant is FABULOUS - the food, the service and the decor! First, our server, Lanah was knowledgeable and attentive, without being hovering or over the top. Drinks were seamlessly kept full, silverware and napkins magically appeared when one was dropped, my 3-year-old niece was entertained and kept amused with their crayons and toy boat. Next, the food! We ordered the Smuggler's Mexican Street Corn as a starter. It was artfully presented and so fresh - and it was the most unique elote I've ever tasted. My Mom and I shared a Reuben, as we'd been warned they were huge. I'm so glad we did this, because it was all I could do to eat a half sandwich. The corned beef was cooked to perfection and was layered with sauerkraut and cheese with just the amount of dressing on perfectly grilled swirled rye. My sister had a smash burger and said it to was amazing. Oh, and I don't know what the secret ingredient is in their cole slaw, but it was unique and flavorful. Finally, the decor. It had a northern Michigan look and feel. Indoor and outdoor tables were nicely spaced and comfortable. Booths were also available, and I hear you can drive your boat up for service come next summer. Smuggler's North Shore - Reuben - Bars Near Me - Newaygo, Michigan

We went to Smugglers North on a Friday nite for our anniversary and after reading both good and bad reviews, we hoped for the best and we would enjoy an awesome meal. We didnt. We had a 6:45 reservation, arrived a little early and we were seated right away. We had a very friendly waitress and got our drinks quickly. We ordered the prime rib dinner and the bbq brisket dinner. So we sat and enjoyed our drinks and waited. And waited. And waited. Ordered another drink which came quickly and we waited. And waited. and waited. 1 hour and 10 minutes later we started looking for our waitress to pay for our drinks and leave. We were so frustrated. Then she comes out with our food. Hubby ordered his prime rib medium, it was bleeding. Sent it back. It came back quickly but was probly the worst prime rib ever. It had absolutely no flavor, even with the sauce. My brisket was soooo dry that I couldnt eat it, it was hard to swallow. I moved it to the end of the table to be taken away. I ate my ice cream scoop of potato salad and baked beans. I realized later that I never even received my corn bread. The couple behind us drove there from south of Grand Rapids to eat after hearing the prime rib was wonderful. They also waited an hour for their food and his cut was so small and so tough. As he was hitting it with his fork he said "this is supposed to melt in your mouth!" His wife said her piece,which was bleeding, had absolutely no flavor. They were both so disappointed. So it wasnt just us. Fridays, I read in the reviews, seem to be super busy so maybe thats not a good nite to go there. Unfortunately for us, and the couple behind us, we wont be back to try it again. My wife and I went to Smugglers tonight. The service was excellent . Our appetizer was onion pearls. My wife had the perch and an Old Fashion and I had the Onion burger and water. The appetizer was great ,hot and crispy excellent. The perch (per my wife) was OK but she would never order it again. My Onion burger....the onions on the burger thin strings, I couldn't bite through them cleanly. I ended up pulling all the onions off in a big messy clump. When I picked the burger up the burger fell apart. I ended using a knife and fork ...lol I wouldn't order it again. The Old Fashion was GREAT. In conclusion I will not be going back. Parking is a pain 8-10 cars can park at the restaurant. All others have to park a short city block away. The prices are high for a restaurant that uses plastic glasses for water and paper napkins. read more

We came to Smugglers North Shore so excited to have a romantic Valentines dinner with great food and drink.. well the opposite happened. First of all we were sat upstairs under bright lights and it took the waitress twenty minutes to take our drink order from her bringing water to our table. Once she brought our drinks my dirty martini was filthy like bottom of the trash can with olives so hard I could barely bite into them. I let it go and drank it anyway being Valentines and not wanting to ruin the night. They proceeded to bring out our main course prior to the appetizer and salads we ordered. My steak came rare when I ordered it medium and my husband's pasta tasted like it was straight out of a box from Kraft. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The manager came to our table and basically threw two free appetizer cards on the table like "come back again" WHAT! I'm appalled at the terrible service and horrible food. Everyone else around us seemed happy. I just believe we were treated poorly overall and it's incredibly disappointing as we eat out a lot in Newaygo County. We still spent over 100 on the meal and I am just disgusted... I don't even know what to say other than Thank you for ruining our Valentine's Day Dinner! read more

Received 2 Stars rather than 1 star, because the Manager attempted to rectify the situation. In short, we had reservations and were kept there for over 2 hours for dinner and the place wasn't packed. The appetizers took 30mins to bring out, and they were ordered before we even arrived. For the first hour, we were able to order and have delivered 2 drinks. The drinks were all syrup and no liquor. The conversation deviated from catching up with friends to discussing if we should leave and get soccer somewhere else. The steak was ordered rare and came out well done. They took it back and brought a new one out raw. The ribs were equivalent to beef jerky. They were so tough that the steak knife was showing flare at difficulty theming to get through them. The 1-pound of pulled pork had 2 options for one included side, and everything else was an upcharge. The pulled pork also resembled the taste of pulled pork meat swimming in Campbell's Tomato soup. The margarita with balsamic drizzle was burned- way over done. The brisket was tender, but dry and tasted like bland pot roast. The smashburgers weren't actually smashburgers but the diners who ordered them were pleased. The waffle fries were cold and not crispy, and the potato chips were like a kettle chip but way too salty. Every food item that was brought out did have A LOT of uncovered real estate left in the plate. Again, the whole dinner took over 2.5 hours. The manager did attempt to make things right, hence the additional star rating, but we won't be visiting again. If we knew they were going to commandeer our entire night, we would not have made reservations or visited in the first place. read more

Had a great experience here this weekend with friends. The food, service, and drinks were great. They really did a very nice job on the renovation. Can't wait for summer so we can visit when the patio is open. Parking can be a little awkward, and it's a hike if their lot is full, but there are lots of boat parking spots! read more

Went in tonight for their advertised Sunday All You Can Eat Fish-- won't be going back as the fish was flavorless and rubbery. Sat in bar area and the bartender was sweet, smiley, attentive and the highlight of the evening. Coleslaw was decent. I could have guessed this may be the result when the place was so empty upon arrival for dinner at 530. :( If looking for fish i did have good fish at Mill Creek Tavern on West River Drive recently....mention it as a better option if you're hankerin' for fish. read more

Wonderful evening on a Monday with friends our waitress was Taylor, she was great very attentive, never had an empty glass, the ladies had the the taco special they loved them an flights of Margaritas! First visit for lunch yesterday. Smuggler's North Shore is a great addition to this area! Staff was attentive and responsive to requests, they have a nice variety of food options, plus the building is clean and beautiful with awesome views.
