This is where I first learned how to shell a crab (and eat it!).. Sneaky Pete's got everything going for it. A fabulous, on-the-water location, eagerly awaiting seafood lovers, and yummy old-bay seasoned crabs. Of course, I'm no expert but since I rolled with a fairly large group of people during this past Labor Day Weekend, whose main purpose was to fufill their crab fix, choosing this place proved to be the way to go. At the end of the night, all nine of us collectively had a great experience at Sneaky Pete's. There were some negative sentiments floating about such as the crab being a little "overcooked" or that it was just "okay", but that was tempered by the enormous amount of crab carnage left at our tables. About 2-4 dozen crabs later, it was safe for me to assume that everyone more than enjoyed the food. I especially liked my crabcake and the yummy corn-on-the-cob. If I ever make my way back to Ocean City, MD, I would definitely go back for round two. read more

Not impressed with the seafood platter (no seasoning and the scallops were chewy) or the fried fish platter (tasteless) but my friend enjoyed the cream of crab soup and the Hawaiian chicken sandwich. But nonetheless, Sneaky's was a unique little gazebo sized restaurant with what looked like additional seating in two boats. Love this place for hot, steamed crabs. When you sit out here it's open air and you are over the water. The service was really quick and friendly ! If you need something you just raise your flag and the and they quickly get what you need. Most importantly the crabs were - as always - hot, and delicious. We ate here for lunch. We were a party of 2 adults and 5 kids. We were initially told 30-35 minutes before we would be seated, but it took about 45. One of the docked boat eating areas was not being utilized while we were waiting. However, after we were seated, another large pry after us was quickly seated in this "closed" area. I'm not sure why the area wasn't opened for us. The restaurant seemed understaffed as it took some time before a waitress greeted us or took our drink order. Refills are not free for soft drinks unless you purchase their 22 oz souvenir cup. The kids ordered a kids meal cheeseburger, fried shrimp, 2 chicken fingers. Kids drinks are not refillable either. The shrimp and chicken fingers were overcooked. I ordered the fish and chips, which arrived as a fish sandwich. It was okay but nothing special. The chips portion was juvenile. My wife ordered the fish tacos. There wasn't enough salsa or sauce, so they were bland. Overall, the food quality and taste did not warrant the long wait or justify the prices. read more

Planned to go to Hoopers for lunch but soon realized that they don't open until 4! So we were sent around back to Sneaky Pete's, which is their lunch restaurant. A short walk out the back door and down a dock and you'll land at this cute gazebo restaurant. They actually have 2 boats on either side of the dock which has seating in it. We were seated inside the building, which had a perfect breeze coming through all the wide open windows. The lunch menu is pretty extensive and does have a lot of options. My friend ordered the fish tacos and she was disappointed because the avocado on the tacos were not yet ripe so they had a hard consistency. My other friend ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos and said that the fish did not have much taste at all. I went with the Sneakys Signature Sandwich, which I figured you can't go wrong with. I was right! This sandwich was delicious. The crab cake was so meaty and huge and the spicy brown mustard was the perfect touch to the sandwich. I would go back just for this item! read more

Most relaxing way to do to a crab fest in Ocean City. Sneaky Pete's is right behind Hoopers. Hoopers is wonderful but it's not open until 5pm (I think). So this is where you'll end up going if you're too hungry (or excited) to wait to get your crab fix. Their deal is 28 dollars for all you can eat crab and corn. I usually order fries and a basket of shrimp and share it all with the table. It makes for a delicious feast. They have seating inside but try and get a spot on one of the canoes they have attached to the pier. I can't think of a more relaxing way to crack open dozen after dozen crabs. The service here is great too. Last time I called ahead for a group of 12 and they reserved an entire boat for us. it was a hassle that they couldn't split the bills (the waitress said they have very old computers). But it worked out in the end. I took around 20 minutes to figure out the bill at the end, but the waitress was a doll about it. read more

Our party of 11 arrived out front to eat dinner at Hooper's but the wait was too long, so we headed out back to Sneaky Pete's and sat on the boat on the water - we got the whole boat and lovely view to ourselves which was probably just about the only redeeming quality of the place (plus our server, Joe, who was more than accommodating with our requests and our drunken antics. He even jumped in our group pictures for good measure.) As for everything else, I'm pissed I wasted money here. For one, the boat (while fun) was pretty dirty like it hadn't been swept in a while and there were flies everywhere. I know it's outside but the whole place just had a general unclean vibe. The food was just awful. I didn't get all-you-can-eat cause I knew we'd be out drinking that night, so I opted for one of the seafood pots that had shrimp, clams, mussels, crab legs, lobster and corn. I figured that for the whopping price of $34, I'd get a ton of each (or at least the smaller stuff like the shrimp or clams). Not only were there only 3 measly, tiny pieces each of the shrimp, clams and mussels (one of which was unopened, so really, 2), none of it tasted or looked remotely fresh. There was a decent portion of crab legs, but they were so overdone and barely had any meat inside of them. The lobster was wildly overcooked as well, to the point where I had gnaw at it for a bit just to get it off the shell. Here comes the worst part: I understand bits of sand and sea creature innards might make their way to my plate, but nothing on my plate was cleaned properly and it was just horrendous. Instead of giving us just the lobster tail (i.e. the part you CAN eat), they threw the whole damn thing on there and when I cracked it open, disgusting green mush (presumably poop) came out of the one end and the only edible lobster meat available was stuck to it. The whole thing made me sick to my stomach. I've had uncleaned peel and shrimp before at Philly Chinese buffets that were gross and I still would've taken that over this any day. The cherry on top of this meal was the unshucked corn sitting right on top of the pot and tiny butter pads that fell to the bottom of it. I'd rather not have to peel my own corn. They couldn't even get that right. A few people got the all you can eat, which after eating the underwhelming and not fresh crab legs in my pot, I'm glad I didn't do. Besides the girls who were smart enough to order chicken fingers and the prime rib sandwich with fries, no one else seemed keen on their meals. Even the Corona-ritas were not frozen and kinda gross. Thanks to Joe for the awesome service (who brought us exactly 25 wet naps after our meal which we jokingly requested), but I will never be returning. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way into oc. Three fish sandwiches, one prime rib sandwich and grouper bites. $80 for lunch for four and a toddler. Note that $18 of this was for three sodas and a chocolate milk. The souvenir cup is a ripoff. Nothing great about the fish sandwich. One for our pickles was almost see through - very mangy and disgusting. Did they even look before they put it on the plate? The grouper fingers were mostly batter - hard to find fish to give to my daughter. Served over a bed of wilted greens. Poor portion size for the price. Prime rib sandwich was absolutely horrible. Got through almost half - in the middle was a bunch of spices including a lot of rosemary. Very burned on top. Meat was dry. Second half of my sandwich I couldn't eat. About 70% of the meat was gristle. There goes half my meal. I told the waitress and showed her the big pile of gristle and she just said "sorry about that" and walked away. When we asked after receiving the check if she was going to do anything about the sandwich, she rolled her eyes and said she'll go ask a manager. After about ten minutes she comes back and says she can't find a manager and gives us back the check. With the sandwich on it. Needless to say, her tip was going to be that sandwich when she finally got it taken off. And we also saw a waitress open a new bottle of ketchup and use her mouth to get off the foil. However, it's on my 'must go-to' list whenever I'm in Ocean City. I've literally spent hours sitting there eating the endless blue crab!! More Old Bay? Yes, please!! I see Sneaky Pete's is currently under water from the recent storms/hurricane Sandy. I hope they can bail out all the water get back to business soon (of course, it's November now, anyway...but I hope it's in full swing when I make it back to Ocean City (hopefully next summer))! If so, I'll be eating there for sure. I keep a Sneaky Pete's cup on my desk at work as a constant reminder/memory of Sneaky Pete's...and I have several pictures of me posing under that huge crab!! The portions were very small and very over priced for the size. I got the new England clam chowder and it was $8 for a really small bowl. It was definitely not worth it. My favorite dinner spot during my whole beach trip! Sneaky Pete's is set up on 3 boats off the dock of Hoopers. They have a main boat where the bar is located and two smaller boats off to the side with tables. For drinks, my group got the rum bucket, which is a plastic bucket with a rum punch. It was delicious! I could definitely taste the rum but it wasn't overpowering. I got the Awesome Clawsome steam pot which had a lobster, 2 snow crab clusters, 2 blue crabs and corn for 29.99. Everything was steamed perfectly and could defiantly be enough for 2 people. I got the soft shell crab sandwich because I love soft shell crab, but their crab was fried differently than how I like it. I can't really describe it, but it was still ok. All my friends enjoyed their crabs, shrimp, and crab cakes too. I definitely recommend Sneaky Pete's for sme great seafood and an awesome view of the bay. Just be careful of the boat when it starts rocking. Hold on to your rum bucket! Side note - most servers appear to be college kids on their summer break, so don't expect much. Would have been 3 stars but my last experience there took a star off. It's a cool place to experience and say you were there. You have to walk down a dock in the middle of the bay to get to Sneaky Petes which is cool. From there you eat on either a boat or this little island dock that is surrounded by the water on all sides. It's a neat experience but there are much better spots food quality wise. There are much more enticing menus in OCMD. I've been there multiple times and my experiences there have varied as I have tried a lot of the menu. The Steampot you don't get much food and there are better spots to get your money's worth Steampot-wise. Their special crab cake sandwich comes on a pretzel that makes the sandwich more difficult to enjoy. I would suggest getting the crab cake sandwich on a regular roll. The Maryland crab soup is pretty tasty and you get a crab leg in it which is pretty sweet. Their fish tacos and shrimp tacos are good as well. There is a Hawaiian chicken sandwich that hits the spot. Be warned though, they don't give you many fries with your sandwiches.a From a raw bar standpoint, the shrimp have a nice spice on them and their clams are really huge which make them worth the money. One thing I will say though is AVOID THE SPECIALS. My girlfriend got the crab-balls and she didn't get them until everybody else was more than halfway through their food! We normally wait for everybody to get served before eating but it was at a point where our food was getting cold and we felt bad so we gave her some of our food while waiting. When we asked for an explanation our waitress told us "because we got a dish from the Specials it would take longer, but don't worry it is in the oven." She made it sound like they had to actually catch the crab before waiting. Why wouldn't she have told us the specials take longer when we were ordering?? And for the record the crab balls were not anything special. I would have given them three stars but this situation took one off. The reason I have been there multiple times is because my friend (from Maryland) went there a lot as a child so it's a bit of a tradition. Bottom line is food-wise you can get a much better bang for your buck, not to mention selection. However if you want a neat dining experience and are okay with eating while sitting on a semi rocking boat, give this place a shot. read more

This is the only place in OC where you can sit right on the water and eat cheap or expensive. Enjoy beautiful views, eat great food and great cocktails. I've eaten here 20+ times and never been disappointed. The wait staff is even pleasant and nice to talk to. I ordered the shrimp appetizer portion and received a dozen nice sized boiled shrimp and boiled little potatoes. My companion ordered the Cuban sandwich. He enjoyed it very much. Pretty darn good chicken wings and crabs. The chicken wings were hot, tasty, and crispy if not a bit expensive. ($9 for 8 pieces) The JUMBO crabs were awesome. Heavy and meaty. Yeah, they're not cheap ($120 for a dozen) but it's difficult to find jumbos around. The cream of crab soup was adequate. If you've read my other reviews, you'll know that I compare every cream of crab soup to The Narrows (in Kent Narrows, MD). This is a 7 compared to The Narrows' 10.
