I just moved to Oak Park and was in serious need of a cut and color, I usually go to a salon in Tinley Park but figured I would start looking for a great salon near by. I was driving and spotted snip city. Parked. Went in. Decor was great and modern. Within seconds a man greeted me. I asked if there was time for a cut and color (it was 1pm on a saturday) and I was in luck. I told the stylist i just wanted my hair to be heathly again and gave a vague idea of what i was looking for. i like when stylist take the role as a professional and give me recommendations on what color and cut would look best on me and i took the advice. she did a great job. My hair looks 20x healthier and she gave me some good hair advice. the only thing i didnt like is that a few flys were in the salon and kept flying in my face. no biggie but kind of annoying. pirce was pretty decent, i actually paid roughly the same at hair cuttery which is a serious gamble. it is my first time though i'll come back and give another review after a few more visits read more

I've been to snip city for a women's hair cut twice now, both time with Ruth, and have been very pleased with the outcome. Wish the place was a little more up to date, atmosphere wise, but I love the friendliness of the staff and the local clientelle. Ruth is very conscientious and talented and bears with my overly controlling and detailed direction. I've also has my 18 month old son here for two hair cuts, both with different people other than Ruth, and they did a wonderful job with him. He didn't like it either time, but the two stylists were patient, gentle and had a good rapport with him. I've lived near Snip City for 10 years and have been a regular manicure customer for Katie and an occasional hair customer but since meeting Kristin in the past few months, I am now a regular color (and sometimes cut) customer. For the time ever I have the hair color (almost copper) I want using only demi-perm color. Everyone at the Salon is warm, welcoming and accommodating. The salon is contemporary while still making customers feel comfortable. Prices are reasonable compared with other independent salons. read more

Either my colorists (yes, plural. i had 2 girls working on my hair) did not think i would notice the uneven roots and patches of bleach or the lights weren't bright enough. While i was trying to go back to my natural color (dark blonde) and my colorist suggested an option no other salon had thought of, there is no excuse for an uneven dye job. I went to Anthony Peter and showed them the screw up. They fixed what my colorists at Snip City had done even after the people at Snip City told me 'color corrective is unpredictable and your hair was uneven because of the stuff you put in it.' Obviously not if another salon could do it. I appreciated them giving me a refund and they offered to fix it but after being told i was wrong and disrespected, I will not be returning. read more

Love Kristin. I love that she takes the time to figure out what you want and counsels you about what something will look like. Every time I go in I am looking for something a little bit different and Kristin "gets" me every time, giving me a great cut and fabulous color. It's also hard to find someone who can do a great job on curly hair. Most stylists straighten my hair and give me a cut that works well only when my hair is straight. Kristin is the opposite--she encourages me to go curly and gives advice to keep the curls looking their best. My daughter is a loyal fan also. Kristin took lots of time with my daughter when she wanted to go short, leafing through hairstyle books and magazines for a long time before deciding on the right cut. She looks adorable and has received rave reviews. read more

Update: I am changing my rating due to the personal attention taken by the salon owner. After obviously reading the review here on Yelp (who knew!) he personally called me and was intensely concerned about making things right. This concern says a lot about his commitment to his customers. Though my original review stands as representative of my initial visit, I think that it might not be representative of the whole salon and most certainly not the owner. read more

This was a lot more than I was planning to spend on a haircut, but I guess I'm not used to the neighborhood yet. I told the stylist exactly what I wanted, and showed her pictures, and she still tried to pressure me into doing something different. I persisted and she cut it basically the way I wanted it, but I've gotten better cuts for half the price (unfortunately, those places are an hour or two away). read more

Pasquale has been cutting my hair for about 6 or 7 years now and he does an excellent job. He always listens to what you want and accommodates you. But more recently, I asked him what he would do if I gave him free reign. I have never done this before with any hairstylist. He told me how he would cut my hair and I expressed some concerns and he took the time to discuss it with me. I let him cut it the way he wanted without any edits from me and I got the best haircut I ever had! Not only does my hair look better, but it is more manageable and easier to style. Now, I am kicking myself for not letting him do what he does best sooner! The staff is very friendly and professional and I have truly enjoyed being one of their customers. read more

I never thought I would finally find a stylist who gets me. I have spiral curly hair and she knows just how to cut it. I love what I see when I look in the mirror. In the past I never got the look I was after, Kristan listens to me when I tell her what I want done to my hair. She has a talent for hair and knows what she is doing plus she is A+ at coloring, I have been through the ringer with cuts and colorings and tried many places and I always left feeling unhappy. Kristan loves what she does and it shows she makes sure you are happy with your hair before you leave, she isn't phoney or pushy or in a hurry and she is not overly chatty. Great place, friendly staff, good haircut. They were playing the drive when I walked in, made for a great atmosphere. They have a gentleman there who I heard does great men's cuts. I got Angie, and she was great. Gave her a vague description of what I wanted and she did a great job flushing it out. I particularly liked how she took special attention to my beard, careful to take as little off as possible, after I mentioned a bad beard trimming experience at another salon. Great place! read more

I started seeing Kristen exactly two years ago, and I beg her never to go anywhere else. I always had that hair that nobody envied, too thick for many styles, curly underneath, but only slightly wavy around the face. However, since getting my hair cut with Kristen, I get compliments on it almost weekly. Woman with curly hair often approach me to ask where I get my hair cut, so this is why I am writing a review: to get the word out there. She not only knows what will look good, but also teaches you how to apply product and style it. Pasquale and all other staff are simply wonderful too. It is apparent they care about every person that walks through the door, not just their clients. I recently took my, very shy, 7 year old there to get a cut by Kristen. He refused to go in, to the point of literally hanging onto the door frame with hands and feet. Kristen was amazingly understanding about the whole thing. After finally convincing him to get in the chair, she gave him such a great cut, that everyone keeps complimenting him on it. Now he is asking to go back there again. He also has strangely awkward hair, and his cuts have never before complimented him as well as Kristen's did, even after going to Mario Tricoci's. I also get my eyebrows waxed there, and have had several people besides Kristen do this, all of whom exceed expectations. If you are that girl who has that weird curly hair, get in to see Kristen. I've been going to Kristen for about 4 or 5 years now. She was recommended to me by a friend who also has curly hair, and Kristen has never disappointed. She has curly hair herself, so she really knows how to cut it in a flattering way. And I regularly have to get color touch-ups because of gray hair, and I get complimented on my color all the time. She's good at giving suggestions if you're not sure what you want to do. I've also introduced my two sisters to Kristen, and they now come here regularly as well. Last week I went in here and got the worst haircut of my life. I forget the cutter's name but she was 8 months pregnant. I'm not sure if she has a specialty other than men's haircuts but I could have done a better job on myself! I wanted a cool cut but this person left me looking like Jim: Carrey from Dumb & Dumber (but wildly uneven and straggly to boot!) I have a job interview coming up and made the mistake of my life coming here. To the cutter: get a clue! How about less small talk, more concentration on what you're doing. read more

I've always believed that the test of a place is how it fares over the long haul. The proverbial, "test of time". Snip City has more than withstood the test of time! I have been getting my hair styled and colored there for probably 15 years and not only do I regularly receive compliments on my hair and even am frequently stopped and asked where I get my hair cut but I have appreciated the respect and care that I am afforded every time I go.
