We went to a nearby beach and she had a blast. She was so excited to be able to name them. Return the equipment was easy peasy. They have drop box for after hours. Rude lady working at Wailea store. Terrible chairs compared to what most places rent, likely because theirs is an advertisement for Snorkel Bob's. Charged $50 more than better equipment at Boss Frog's in Kehei with a super nice staff. Worth driving a few miles for. Was going to rent snorkeling gear for our last day but when we walked in, the guy said waters will be choppy next couple of days. Meanwhile, literally every beach we went to had people (even kids!) snorkeling. We bought cheap gear from Safeway and still had a nice time at Baby Beach where waters were calm. Super helpful, they have the old school snorkel gear and the new style snorkel gear- with the breathing tube that blocks water from being sucked up. we had originally rented from another shop ( only the new style of snorkel gear) and when we got in the water the breathing tube acted like it was blocking air. This halted our snorkeling So we went to Snorkel Bobs and the nice guy stoked us out with the old school gear and he was super kind. Ps the gear is clean and not "old" just the original simple design is what I am trying to say. Sometimes you gotta stick to the original styles. read more

We have rented gear from Snorkel Bob's on Maui, Oahu, and Big Island...each location several times. While we always get great service and are satisfied with our equipment, out of all our rental experiences, Megan at the Wailea location went above and beyond to make sure our masks & flippers were properly fitted. If you are reading this, you likely know what its like to have a snorkel experience ruined because of a leaky or poorly fitted mask or snorkel. Megan was patient and efficient with our entire group, working quickly to make sure we were all properly fitted AND knew some simple tricks and things to double check - things like making sure the mask is adjusted evenly on both sides, making sure it isn't too tight on your face, etc. It sounds basic, but they are little details that make all the difference in a properly fitting mask. Came for day rentals of boogie boards. Friendly staff, had to wait a bit because there was only one person at the front and she was helping a large group. She was friendly and informative. Boards worked great and in good conditions We were able to return boards conveniently after hours through their easy drop box. Tried to use Yelp check in coupon, fine small print says only with purchase of excursions. Missed that, but all good. Recommend and would use their equipment again. read more

Me and my family went to the store and was given horrible service by a man that was bigger once we have entered the store. My friends and I rented snorkeling gear for the week and the man working there was a bit rude and sassy at first but then was very warm and friendly after we told him we are from California. He handed my friend the snorkel gear and it collapsed in her hand. Then he exclaims "try not to break my stuff" like we were doing it on purpose LOL. He also charge my friend 10 extra dollars but she checked the receipt and then brought it up to him. Also told my other friend that she "wasn't gonna have fun" with the split level. As if a certain snorkel gear determines our level of fun? Man reminded me of a cartoon character on Disney he just gave the vibes but overall was very helpful, gave us a map with good snorkel spots, and would recommend to others. We stopped here on our second day in Maui to rent snorkel gear. We were greeted by a great lady who could sell ice to an Eskimo! We rented the highest level of snorkel mask equipment to use for the week. It totaled about $30 a person. Then we bought a package for snorkeling and whale watching through the company. For a party of two we paid $186. It includes a 7am to 12pm adventure with breakfast, lunch and drinks. I'll let you know after we go what happens! So far so good! read more

The service was excellent! Loved the employees... they quickly made you feel at home. We had never been snorkeling before and friends recommended this place. They had googles for those with prescription lenses, they suited us up wth everything we needed. Didn't attempt to oversell us anything. Even provided us with a map to help us navigate good snorkeling options near our hotel. One of the many impressive things about the staff was their commitment to excellent service. They just happen to know the weather reports and how the water was that day, because they had already been out before they got to work at 8am. Snorkel Bob's is where it's at! We stopped by to pick up some snorkel gear for a day rental, and the customer service was wonderful. Seriously, the woman helping us at Snorkel Bob's was incredible. She looked at me and guessed my shoe (flipper) size immediately, fitted us with masks, and gave us advice about where to snorkel. In this age of grumpy baristas and silent waiters, great customer service can be a rarity, and Snorkel Bob's makes you feel taken care of in a way that few other places will. There are locations all over Maui, and you can return your gear at any of them - made even easier by the 24-hour drop boxes outside the stores. You can return your gear at any hour of the day or night, no sweat. Pretty great, especially if you want to wake up with the sun to catch some waves/turtles/eels. We walked in not knowing how to snorkel, only knowing that we wanted to see some turtles. Sue was incredibly helpful in fitting us and giving us a basic but very useful tutorial about how not to drown. She also gave us tips on where to find turtles, complete with a map. She shouted out her coworker, Wall-e, for when we returned the gear, and he was equally delightful. I also appreciated the handouts they gave with the gear rental. The sheets remind folks to respect the ocean and the critters within it, and explain why certain practices/souvenirs are unethical. Since a lot of those mistakes are made out of ignorance rather than malice, their attempts to educate are great! read more

After looking into the local boat tours to Molokini/Turtle town - we decided to check out the cheaper option of renting gear and snorkeling on our own! Thus we found ourselves at Snorkel Bobs. We went in around 10:30am. There were a few other people in the shop but we were helped pretty quickly by Mira, who was great! We got face masks (went for the more fitted option, slightly more $ but worth it), fins and flotations belts (an extra $5) and got out for about $30. We headed to La Perouse Bay to try snorkeling there, but the conditions were too choppy and the area was very rocky. Next, we headed to Ahihi-Kanua Natural Area Reserve - BEST PLACE WE SNORKELED ALL DAY. The ranger when we pulled in was super helpful and let us know exactly where and how to enter the water. As soon as you entered the water there are immediately TONS of fish - so beautiful. It was a little murky so we didn't venture too far out but some did and we heard a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" as people saw the gorgeous fish! Finally, we hit up Turtle Town. It was gorgeous out so we waded out. About 2 minutes in the water and I felt an electric SHOCK and had been stung by a Portuguese man o' war Our snorkel trip was immediately over and we returned our gear. Used some white vinegar to cool the pain instead of the other suggested remedy by the locals But all in all a fun time and would highly recommend taking this routes read more

Stopped in to Snorkel Bob's and rented our typical weekly package. Super friendly and helpful staff. Zack helped me book a charter on the Seafire for a Molokini and turtle outing for myself and two 13 year old. I've done several Molokini charters over the years and have had mixed results. Seafire is the way to go. Just the right amount of time on the water (3 hours). Smooth ride on the boat but not too big like the oversize catamarans. This particular SB is tucked away and a little hidden from the main road. While we would prefer to rent from a less chainy business, we rented a few sets a the last minute. As we talked with Casey and Wally (Hope I got the names right) we were won over. They were both friendly and helpful, each sharing some local info and simply great employees. We will def go back and rent from them the next time we are in Maui and need some snorkle gear. read more

Decided to snorkel on the last day of our visit to Maui since it seemed to be the "thing". Choose to stop by snorkel bob's and so glad we did. Zack help us knowing we literally had only a few hours left of our trip. I didn't want to commit to a trip until I knew if I would enjoy it. I am so happy I tried it, went straight off the beach and saw many turtles and fish. One of the best experiences on the entire trip. The store was dead when we visited. Just the four of us and one employee. So we thought we would rent our gear and learn a lot about great places to snorkel. We had read guide books and talked with some friends that live here or visited here frequently, and we had snorkeled on previous visits to Hawaii. Just not Maui. Snorkel Bob's came highly recommended. After this experience, I will never rent from them again and I will not recommend them to anyone else. The employee that "helped us" was a rather unpleasant fellow. He was a sort of Dr. Jekyl, Mr Hyde kind of a guy. He would be friendly and professional one moment, and rude and hostile the next. It was very odd. He barked at me when I tried to help my wife with her fins. Then he was nice and got a different pair. He - in one breath - asked if we had any questions and when I tried to ask him about snorkeling areas and a spot I had passed, he yelled at me to just read the paper he gave me with their recommendations (then why'd you ask me if I had any questions?). There are lots of examples just like this. Nice question, professional attitude and a sudden pivot to annoyance and rude, angry, behavior. He also got mad when we asked about beach safety, "Sir, this is Hawaii not Mexico. We don't have crime here and if you leave your car unlocked someone will steal it." I guess I sort of get that. I'm sure he has stupid tourists asking him dumb things all the time, but in this case I was not insulting Hawaii I was asking a question that literally every single guidebook we read as well and the people we know that live here told us. I would let that go were he not such an asshole in general to all of us for no apparent reason. So...when it is all said and done, I will never rent from a Snorkel Bob's again due to this awful experience with this jerk.
