    Great snow, beautiful views

Snow Summit is the closest ski resort ito San Diego, and we have been coming nearly every year for the last 30 years. Both our kids learned to ski here, and we come up every winter with lots of friends. Even when the mountains aren't getting a lot of snow, they are usually able to make enough snow that the skiing is still decent Lines can get long, but as with most ski resorts, are usually fine first thing in the morning and are better during the week. Great to be able to go from the ocean to the mountains in So Cal and get in some skiing!

Rented boots, board and helmet. Everything was easy to get. Slopes were great. It was a great Sunday not too packed. They do offer $40 dollars for parking which I think is a bit steep. They do offer free parking a couple blocks down with ample shuttles going back and forth. Shuttle and free parking made it really easy. Come check them out and enjoy a day on the slopes

We drove up for a day of skiing and snowboarding at Snow Summit, and it was a blast! We rented the equipment, skis, boots, helmets, poles, snowboard, and fittings without a hitch. We hit the slopes, and the lines that day were light and quick; the snow was groomed with some powder (off-trail areas were 3 ft. plus of powdery snow!

Pretty good ski resort! Almost as good as Mountain High. Snow Summit has plenty of open trails. I like the live cams on their website. . Somewhat crowded. Most of the trails had riders (unlike MH's East Resort, which consists of long, often empty trails). Don't have to worry about collisions. . The lift ticket is expensive without the IKON discount. . On average, the ski lift lines here are okay length and speed. . Only one of the resort's overall trails had rail features. Non-likes: - The conveyor belt for the bunny slopes was very long and slow. - The food in the cafeteria was super expensive. And not quite on the healthy side. The only fruit option was oranges. I had about $30 worth of food for $50. Indoor seating was a lil limited. An extra 30-60 min drive to reach SS compared to MH. Without the IKON discount, better stick with MH. Slightly better quality at lower costs. Better than Snow Valley for sure though. SV's the worst I've been to of the three. Reg website price, 1-day lift ticket: $169 Total incl tax with IKON discount: $112

Snow Summit is the crown jewel of the resorts near the Big Bear area. We've been pass holders for 7 years now. You do need to be willing to navigate traffic at times. Our tip is to reserve your parking in advance and plan on arriving around 7:15am to beat the crowds. If you're an Ikon pass holder you can come in for an afternoon/evening session at 2:00pm. When the early birds have left. Also intermediate and advanced Riders and Skiers should head to the Eastside and do Chairs 7 and 10. Pretty good beginner area as well

Snow Summit has been the only mountain I've been snowboarding at since I started to learn a few years back, and is the same mountain where I have gotten better each time !! This is probably the best snowboarding mountain in SoCal :-) Snow Summit is beginner friendly and I'd recommend this place to beginners to get used to snowboarding/ learn the basics. The last times I've gone here there's much more snow (right now it's pretty sad), but I still love this resort sm :-) I love how there's so much food/ cafes when you get tired & it's so ez to just chill there while waiting for friends. The only thing that sucks is the parking -- if you don't get parking in the front you need to take a trolley but if you do get parking in the front you need to pay a fee. I will be back soon!

So I ask for a beer(tap) at the downstairs bar ..the guy immediately said there is no tap here..so I then asked is there upstairs and he said NO..the other girl bartender looked at him and he said "nope not at all." So I go upstairs and find tap beer ..when I go down ask why he lied to me and lied to the other bartender he wouldn't admit it ..while rude ..so childish and disrespectful.who hires people like this???

    Top of the mountain!

I went into a class for a refresher and was moved to a separate group for a slightly more advanced course. I ended up getting a free private lesson since there were no other people in that division, and I got to spend time with instructor Vera. She was very kind and knowledgeable, teaching me new tactics and tricks, like how to ski backwards! Overall, she was amazing, friendly and fun to talk to. I would totally recommend taking lessons with her!!

After living in San Diego for 20+ years, I'm kicking myself for not skiing in Southern California sooner! And this is less than 3 hours away?! (Maybe its cause I finally got myself an AWD car...Subaru WRX). I've skied in Tahoe, Reno, Whitefish, and Salt Lake City...Snow Summit may not be as big and dynamic, but still its still fun and a helluva log closer! It was a very snowy season in California this year, and it shows! Late April and there was still plenty of wonderful powder on these mountains! I stuck with the the beginner slopes and some intermediate slopes, all were well maintained and the lengths were decent enough...so fun! Friendly staff all around at the ticket booth, bars and food areas, and equipment rental. $115 for the life ticket, and $67 to rent skis, boots and pools...pretty standard pricing overall. And $10 for a very bland cheeseburger. Warnings: -all the snowboarders seem to enjoy sitting on their butts right smack in the middle of slopes, and just chill there. Y'all are obstacles, get of the way! Move to the side if you need a break! -Quite a lot of people were drinking at the bars...I understand its a big business, but seems a bit dangerous to have boozy snowboarders and skiers. Hopefully the bartenders don't overserve. -$6 for water bottles...bring your own! -If you can, book your lift ticket and rentals online in advance, I've heard this place can sell out.

Ask the Community - Snow Summit

If you get in the singles line at Snow Summit with your friends, can you still all ride up together? The answer is YES, by the way. I witnessed it dozens of times.

Rhetorical question. Based on the maximum seating capacity of each chair, we utilize the single line to optimize the seating arrangement. This doesn't imply we only accommodate one single rider at a time. For instance, if a chair has a capacity of 6… Read more

Is there an EV charger here for electric cars?

Big Bear Mountain Resort does not have any electric car charging stations at this time.

The website says there is free parking for the rest of the season, but that there is also paid parking? I'm buying lift tickets and I'm confused about if I should also add parking. Do I run the risk of not getting parking if I try to get free parking

Hello, Stef - as of March 29, 2021 thru April 11, 2021 we are extending FREE paid parking. You do not need to purchase any parking between the dates of March 29, 2021 thru April 11, 2021.

Hello, we will start parking guests around 7AM. Subject to change. You cannot go in and out of parking. If you leave and re-enter, you will need to purchase another ticket/barcode. Parking is first-come, first-serve.

If I buy a snowboarding lesson package that includes the lift ticket and rental equipment, are those for the full day? Or only for the duration of the session?

For this most recent long three-day weekend in Lake Arrowhead we decided to finally give this place a try. We are two adults in our 30s with no kids. It is important to note that because honestly, this place is for children 10 and under. It is not for teens or adults. It is honestly pretty underwhelming if you are an adult, but it can be quite charming if you are a child. It is also $55 per person and $15 for parking which is a bit expensive, but I understand the inflated price due to the location and having to staff it. One thing about this place that is nice is they don't have a bunch of add-ons once you get inside, so you really do just pay one price unless you decide to get food as well. The other part of this park is specifically designed for people into mountain biking. They have six different trails ranging in difficulty from easy to difficult and about half of the visitors seemed to be doing that which we would go back specifically for. The activities for adults are pretty limited, so the main ones that we did were the bike in the air that goes around the rim of the property. This is the ride that you see in all the marketing and is the most popular. It was probably the most fun we had but it was honestly a bit scary once you get to the steepest point. It's about 50 feet above the ground so it would be quite a fall down. After that, we tried some archery and ax throwing which was surprisingly fun. After that, there was honestly nothing else that we could really do given our age and size so we headed out after that. This would be a great place to visit during December with children 10 and under because they do have Santa Claus and people in costumes and what not and each of the buildings is alpine themed and is very quaint. They also have a very large area that serves as a wedding location so I'm sure that is also another part of this place. There is a large free parking lot attached in front with EV charging available as well.

We came last week (3 days before Christmas) and we had to wait for each activity. It wasn't bad, but it did make the day longer. If you plan to eat, I would eat earlier because in the afternoon lunch our food took about 1hr. The highlight of the trip for my kid is santa and I'm glad we did that first to get a reservations. We did the mountain bike part earlier in the fall and that was nice if your kid is into it. We rented all the gear and opted for the tour guide to help us get use to it.

They're pretty thorough about checking waivers, which I appreciated for safety. The snow play space is small with a short slope, but they provide a bunch of plastic sleds, so it's still fun to mess around. I just wish tubing was included for the price. Two events lead to this 1-star review…read more First, I had just loaded onto lift 13 when the lift stopped. I looked back to see 2 snowboarders fighting on the ground in front of the lift. The fact that some people can be A-holes isn't what bothered me, what bothered me is the incredibly slow and lackadaisical response from the staff. The attendant from the lift was doing her best to separate them while I watched 1 staff member slowly walk over. Second, and this was the most troubling, was the lack of attention to beginner-level skiers on lift 2. My wife took our 6-year-old, first-time skier on to lift 2 while I followed right behind. We both let the attendant know it was his first time on the lift to which she just responded "chase the chair and you'll be fine". As the chair came around I watched my son almost fall off the seat. My wife and I both yelled stop as she pulled him back on. Without even turning to look, the attendant nonchalantly said "he's fine, he was on". When we reached the top of the lift, there was no assistance to help them and they ended up taking a big fall off the chair, both hitting their heads and my wife injuring her tailbone. They stopped the lift just long enough to get them to the side before resuming again. They let us know in the future we should give them a thumbs down on the approach and they'll slow down the lift. It would have been REALLY nice if the attendant at the bottom of the hill had let us know that. As we gathered ourselves on the benches, we watched beginner after beginner fall as soon as the chair pushed them forward. Often times there were 4-5 people on the ground, creating obstacles for other skiers to avoid as they exited the lift. Several times we watched the exiting skiers fall over previous skiers that weren't able to clear the area. All this to say, the concern for safety and level of professionalism left a lot to be desired and we do not plan on returning.
