Even though Snow Summit boasts 27 trails spread over 240 acres of skiable terrain, with a vertical drop of 1,200 feet and has 14 lifts, I feel that this resort caters mostly to families and children rather than more experienced skiers and adults. It was a pretty solid mix of terrain, jumps and other features that work well for skiers as well as snowboarders, but I felt like there was a constant threat of snowboarder(s) hitting me unintentionally...so I really went out of my way to go to the less popular lifts.. the ones that go to the so-called "blacks". Funny enough, those blacks performed more like blue slopes... so I really didn't experience any blacks that I can remember unless I'm missing something. I'm a solid intermediate skier but I can ski blacks when I want to and I'm not tired. After 13 runs in 1 day I was pretty content and tired by the end of the ski day. Its funny, usually I ski with friends this time I went alone. I feel like, for the first time that I can ever remember, I was a better skier than the majority of people going down these slopes... This was our first time at Snow Summit, and also our last. During the week they closed most of the food/beverage places even though the website says they are supposed to be open. With only one restaurant open the lunch line curved around the block a few times. West side of Snow Summit was properly groomed, East Side was in questionable condition, basically reducing the available area by 50%. Blue runs were open, but bottom section had no snow; I ran into a fellow skier there who asked "Did we miss a SLOPE CLOSED sign??" The triple pack tickets I bought from the website did not work. Had to wait 20 minutes in the ticket office while people tried to figure out how to reissue them. Lift 2 has a side Single entrance that worked great; when trying to line up the same way at Lift 1 I got yelled at by one of the lift operators instead. Bought a one day ticket for my child, then tried to use it at the lift and it wouldn't scan; had to walk back down to the ticket office yet again for another reissue. read more

So in March apparently all the food places close and the only place to get food is to walk all the way down to where the parking lot is lol. It's absolutely insane. I asked staff and they said at end of season they consolidate workers down to one building at parking lot. So charge full price and get half the service. Nice. Really nice read more

Amazing experience. If you are just here for the day, I highly recommend that you come early (before it opens at 8am) -- around 7:45am or so and planning your trip/buying passes and rental ahead of time. That way you can take advantage of the free parking/get closer parking to the resort and get cheaper lift tickets. I opted for skiing since I do not know how to snowboard. Ski rentals came out to be $63.57 when I rented them the day of. This includes the ski poles, the skis, and the ski boots. The process is to scan the bar code in front of the rental area to book an appointment and then once you are set for an appointment, you go to the front window and they charge you for the ski rentals/give you a receipt. You then take the receipt and bring it upstairs and pick up your rentals. I believe the rental area opens at 8am so try to get their early to avoid lines/crowds/possibility of your size running out. Lift tickets are sold separately. I believe they were ~$130 for half a day (12pm-4pm close) and $145? for full day (8:30am-4pm). I went on a Sunday so weekend prices may be different from weekday prices. Regardless, I highly recommend you look online and buy tickets ahead of time for greater discounts (I obviously did not plan ahead and just paid the premium prices). The ski resort itself was super awesome! I love how long each trail is regardless of which life you choose to go on. Obviously, the bunny slopes were too short for my taste but definitely such a good place for beginners. When I went on a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded (which is so nice because every time I see someone in front of me, I end up falling for fear of crashing into them). Just fair warning though, the slopes themselves are definitely not first timer friendly. Just stick to the bunny slopes the entire time if you are going for the first time. They have super cool slopes and one in particular called park where there were snow ramps and hills. We brought our own lunch (DIY sandwiches at the car with chips) because we didn't want to waste time waiting in line with the crowds/long lines. The scanners to get into each lift is super convenient since you just need to walk past it and scan so I didn't have to take off my snow gloves every time. ADULT TUBING IS LAME!!! Don't bother paying for tubing if you're an adult. The small portion of the hill they use for tubing is so small and is clearly meant for kids - NOT adults. You got down the hill in 10 seconds. It felt like such a waste of money. There should be a separate section for adults. If you have ever snowboarded before, don't go here unless you just want to have fun practicing weaving through an obstacle course as you go down the hill of beginners laying in the middle of every run. This is clearly a place for the LA influencers to go have an instagram 'snow day'. There are 0 advanced runs, the double black diamonds here are like a solid blue run at any other resort. The terrain park is okay. The machine ticket scanners hardly work and I had to take my ticket out of my pocket and hold it up to the scanner and try it multiple times every time I went through. Incredibly inconvenient and with the four thousand people that were in the lines when the scanners don't work it makes a bad situation worse. There are employees standing there watching and simply just say 'try again'... really, thanks for that brilliant idea. The conditions while we were there were horrendous, and from what I was able to tell talking to people those were considered 'great' conditions for this resort. Imagine skiing on a frozen sheet of ice with grass sticking through covered in about 3 inches of baby powder (fake snow). I have never experienced this baby powder fake snow at any other resort, but its not a good thing. The parking, well there isn't, there are lots about a mile away that you have to take shuttles to and from so forget going back to the car for anything you forgot. The only saving grace, the bar at the bottom is actually pretty great, reasonable prices considering its a ski resort and the alcohols/ mixers are actually good quality. This is also the only short line in the entire resort, its a challenge to find a table, but at least you can get a drink. The bartenders are fast and there are many working the bar so they move through people really efficiently and are kind at the same time. I was able to manage to secure a table on the second day and the bloody Mary's and the view isn't half bad. Never thought a ski resort could use a yelp review, however I wish I could've read this review before I went. read more

I can usually put snow summit at around 3.5 stars. On weekdays and days where there's not a lot of people, summit is definitely a 4 star resort. But when it's peak season/weekends, the mountain easily gets super duper packed. Most the riders that come here are beginners level, so the mountain can be scattered with a lot of traffic. Lines can get up to 20-30 min for a lift when it's at its busiest, just something to keep in mind. A big perk is that the terrain is very beginner and intermediate friendly. If you are looking for a chill place to ride and not be too challenged, this resort is great. Overall, the resort is fine for being a local one, but this resort definitely attracts the most crowds vs big bear and snow valley. read more

It's actually a pretty decent resort. Yes it's fake snow but it's one of the best you can get in SoCal given the terrain and parks. The poor review is for the extravagant prices that Ikon/Alterra has done over the years to spike up prices on lift tickets. Absolute shame on the corporations. A $150/day ticket to go on the slopes for a day.. In fake snow with long lines?? I get that Lake Tahoe now runs at 200+ (which is still ridiculous even with fresh powder), but this is too high regardless! Summit run is always super crowded. You get the new snowboarders not knowing proper etiquette and stopping in the middle just to chill (clearly not fixing their bindings or being injured). Or, you get the intermediate/advanced snowboarders who zip past everyone and closely to the beginners. It's getting more and more risky to go down Summit Run after a long day. It's gotten much worse this year. So, where are the ski patrols? I didn't see ANY this year!! Parking is a bit different this year. I noticed a good 1/3 of the upper lot is reserved for those with premium pass. So good luck trying to get a spot there. Maybe come at 6am for goodness' sake. Otherwise you're best off going to Fox Farm or Sandalwood. Brownie is closed until both Fox Farm and Sandalwood lots are full. I suggest Fox Farm because Sandalwood has way too much mud. Fox farm isn't a paved parking lot but it's a lot more leveled. Honestly ski tickets in Japan and Europe are much more affordable and they're not spoiled by these money grabbing companies who monopolized this beautiful winter sport away from everyone! Now it's meant for those who have enough to buy their $900 expensive annual passes or families who could shell $10,000 on a week. And, yes, I did meet a chatty stranger on a lift who said his mom did exactly that. SMH You're making this very expensive for prospective newbies and they just don't bother coming and checking it out. I wished I could bring more friends but I can't as soon they learned of the costs. You're also making this sport more and more privileged for the upper middle and upper income families. This review definitely doesn't help with the prices and I don't know how we could vote with our money since there aren't any other decent mountains nearby! I heard Mt Baldy is really good when they get fresh snow though. Anyway, I wished we had many more local good quality resorts with good snowmaking abilities. Consider me a hypocrite. read more

This is probably the best place to ski/snowboard in SoCal. But it's not without its issues. First the good. I feel like this has the best slopes compared to other ski resorts I've been to. The last time I went, the powder was pretty good! Many of lifts are open (especially on the right and left sides of the resort). Unfortunately the main ones near base camp are super crowded during peak times. All in all, a very fun resort that boasts difficulties ranging from beginning bunny hills to extreme double diamonds. Booked a private snowboard 3-hr lesson for my daughter and I who are first time snowboarders. We were lucky enough to get Cody West as our instructor. Cody was fantastic! His simple approach to teaching us so that we weren't overwhelmed along with his patience and encouragement made it an incredible experience. We were able to learn quickly from Cody to the point that by the end of the session, we were confident enough to snowboard on some "green" trails afterwards. **must read before buying lift tickets** Jan 5 2023 me and some friends went to summit to snowboard. It was snowing hard, raining hard and large chunks of hail. Apparently weather was really bad and they shut down lifts. I asked multiple staff if they were going to open again. They said no prob not, and other saying not sure about today. I emailed summit after we left jan 6 morning. They said I physically have to be on site to possibly get a refund I paid 150$ for lift tickets to go 3 times until they shut it down. This isn't fair to guests that don't live in the area. This isn't fair to guests that your staff isn't trained properly or get information on time that you were closing lifts for 15-20 min. Half the parking lot was gone when we were leaving and no staff came back to us telling us that they were going to open back up. There was 4 of us that didn't get refunds that went 2-3 times only. The customer service was awesome and very good at getting me checked in for the night session group snowboarding class on Sat, Jan 3. Night sessions only available on Sat (4- 5:45 PM). Even though I left my place in Riverside to arrive at Snow Summit resort with the heavy traffic, I still managed to arrive at the resort at 3:55 PM. The ticket line had a scattered crowd instead of organized wait lines, but it wasn't a big crowd. The staff was helpful, nice, and still got me checked-in, even though I was late by about 18 - 20 min. Wyatt, my assigned group snowboarding class instructor was understanding and cool. We were a group class of 4 total. It would have been nice if the group class ended at 6 PM, instead of 5:45 PM. This group class focused on beginners and students like me who previously did take a beginner's snowboarding lesson eons ago, but needed a review / refresher course. Very crowded and understaffed. One bartender working two bars without a bar back. Poor guy was running and no one was available to clean tables. Same situation at the restaurant, took 20 + minutes to get my daughter French fries because the line was so long with one employee serving everyone, she was literally sweating trying to serve everyone. Only one restaurant was open and it was overcrowded. We come up here annually and we are disappointed this year. It snowed, but the snow has been in the forecast for over a week, they should have been properly staffed. For $55 the tubing was pretty lame. Short track, would not recommend. Do better! We parked 1.5 hours before the scheduled lesson time (as Website suggested), but still missed the lesson.... This is how I spent my Saturday at Snow Summit: - Arrived at Snow Summit 7:45am - Parking: 15 mins to find the offsite lot ~2 miles away - Shuttle to snow summit: waiting time 15 mins + riding to the base 30 Mins for 2 miles - Pickup tickets and rental: 30 mins - Buying a bottle of water: 20 mins - Finding a table for lunch: 20 mins - Average wait for chair 1 and 2 was at least 30-45 mins, chair 4 was 45mins- 1 hour - on slop, I was mostly focused on how to avoid running into ppl, and it was very stressful - Lastly, waited for 30 mins to be packed like a sardine into a topless shuttle bus to send back to the parking lot I don't recommend Snow Summit, particularly coming here on weekends. I used to enjoy skiing here a few years ago, however, I don't think I would come back to ski anymore. Snow summit currently has a serious capability issue. This place can be amazing or a nightmare depending on how well they are maintaining their trails. Last few years they have "Improved" some trails pushing most riders onto Blue Steel. Causing congestion and unsafe riding conditions. This year they have"Improved" Blue Steel adding some new features and making some more difficult jumps. This has resulted in countless crashed and injuries over the few hours I was there. I have never seen as many emergency response calls in one day as I did on opening weekend. They must get a kickback from the hospital or something. Instead of keeping the progression between trails and adding new trails, they have chosen to increase the difficulty of current trails eliminating the progression. This is NO LONGER a beginner, intermediate, family friendly bike park. read more

Read before going: I went to use the bathroom and my $1,000 + Setup was STOLEN from the racks where everyone leaves their stuff for a moment while they do what they have to do. I went and told the employees and they told me to scan a lost and found code. And said I need to keep an eye on my stuff........ Day two they groomed the mountain (which isn't my favorite as I'm used to powder all season in WA) but it was still pretty great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the lift lines being long and a little disorganized. Other than that the food and drinks were tasty both days. The last time I did snowboarding was 4 years ago, so the difficulty of the tracks was one of my concerns. Thankfully, they have tracks with varying difficulty, apparently the black track is for experts. I was driving from West LA, so I would give you some tips on what you would need to prepare for an enjoyable time at Big Bear Mountain Resort. If you are a beginner and plan to drive to this resort and it takes more than 3 hours to get there? Then I would recommend staying over at a hotel or an inn nearby for one night (preferably 1 hour drive) to prevent fatigue from kicking in because like others have mentioned, you would be driving around winding roads to get to the destination and trust me when I say the drive up there was not enjoyable at all. Anyhow, please buy your lift tickets ahead of time because it will be really troublesome if you don't. I would also recommend buying your own clothing before coming here (snowboard clothing, gloves, goggles, winter scarf, beanies). As for shoes and the snowboards, you can rent them here but remember to book them ahead of time at their website (preferably 7 days ahead for the promotional discounts). As for parking, there are plenty of them and they are free of charge. As for the snowboarding experience, I loved it. I just wish the signs that they put up to let people know which tracks to take are bigger. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would come again. read more

****UPDATE**** I got in touch with the Yelp account manager so that they could try and resolve this situation by telling me a supervisor will reach me via email and to provide my email address, which I did. I found the email I was waiting to receive on 4/18 telling me to provide my contact information, so I did. Only for the supervisor to reply back to me on the day Snow Summit closes for the season telling pretty much "we are now closed for the season". I felt that that how management handled the situation was definitely a tactic to try to "help" me but didn't care enough to truly access the situation and to truly put in the effort to actually help me and resolve this issue, no matter the time frame. Very disappointing. There are definitely other ski resorts that genuinely care about customer experience but unfortunately based on mine and many others' experiences, that wasn't the case here in Snow Summit. read more

Insanely busy. No management for safety whatsoever. 1) I watched a new snowboarder come off a beginner lift and fall. The lift operator was SO FAR cheering people on he could NOT hit the button to stop in time. The guy was 6'4" or so...he barely cleared the chair over his back. It literally scraped over him. He was startled and I never saw him again. 2) Summit Run: the "advanced" beginner run...you have boarders flying down on the heels of kids. I saw 3 people go out on stretchers, one with a bloodied face. For a busy Ski Week with fresh snow, they need someone out monitoring and revoking tickets for anyone out of control in a beginner area like they do in larger resorts. 3) Food lines: crazy. I love Snow Summit, been going to this mountain for years. Pros: 1) good runs 2) nice service Cons: 1) they charge $40 for parking now 2) their vendors didn't open near the lifts until 11am, so since the mountain opens at 9am, you would have to go back to the main lodge which seems silly if you want to take a quick break, buy a bottled water and go back on the mountain. 3) the lift tickets are insanely expensive, $165 per adult. 4) the Group Lessons are a waste of time and money. $225 each child, and there were 150 kids, so all the kids sat around a lot waiting for the other countless kids falling down the mountain. 5) Summit run was super crowded 6) the staff was extremely strict, so much so it felt rude. We forgot our passes in the car, so instead of allowing us to check in the kids into lessons while the other adult went to get the tickets, they told us to wait. read more

I was rusty at best when I placed my feet into the rented snowboard but after about an hour on the bunny slope I was back in the groove. Warning: This review is value judgment at best and lacks objectivity. Background: I love skiing and snowboarding. Living in LA where we are blessed with year round warm and sunny days, it strikes me as f*ing insanity (pardon my French) that just 100 miles east and just 2 hrs drive away, sitting at 7,000 ft base elevation there's a ski resort where I can go skiing or snowboarding. There's lack of natural snow and they use snow cannons to shoot up that man made snow most of the season. The snow isn't that great and has consistency of slush during sunny mornings and afternoons and turns into ice as the sun sets. As such, it can get very slippery which requires skills. If you are a beginner, get a pillow under your butt.. something to fall on. By the way.. the resort is open during night hours. I tried it and I liked that there were fewer people but it was too icy for my liking. Now the resort can get pretty busy but honestly after reading the negative reviews I expected the absolute worst experience but was pleasantly surprised. The parking is tough in the morning but doable. I was able to get a spot the overflow parking at Moonridge Rd and Brownie Ln at 9. The line looked pretty bad but moved fast and I parked in 15 minutes. The shuttle line looked long so I didn't wait for the shuttle and hiked up and it took me 10 minutes. The night skiing parking was much easier, I parked right at the resort. Customer service was friendly. Use the self-service kiosks to print your lift passes to avoid lines. If you're renting, don't rent at the resort! A lot of rental shops around with much fewer people and better equipment. I bring hot lemon tea in a thermos and they have hot water refill station at the cafe. Snowboarding classes. Felt like it was a waste of money. They supposed to last for 1 hr and 45 mins but ended in 1 hr. The instructor was rushing. Not much more value than just watching YouTube tutorials. So objectively speaking it's a meh experience at best especially if you are a pro skier but I value this resort more than its positives and negatives. read more

We went on the first clear day after a week-long snow on the mountain and it was great! Is it just me or the weather at the top of the trail is absolutely different than at the bottom? Also, I love how it suddenly got dead quiet while you're on a lift and you've passed the crowded areas. But please, for the love of all that's holy, rent your equipment before you even get here. We waited too late and couldn't get any near where we lived so we decided to rent from Mountain High itself. We planned to be at the parking lot two hours before the lifts open and we still ended up getting on our first lift trip 2 hours after it started operating. This is because traffic essentially stopped on Big Bear Blvd before any of the turns to go up to the resort lots. Stopped. People tried cutting, but really, where are you gonna go? First of all I recommend getting your lift ticket in advance as with current covid regulations the mountain does have a capacity and lifts do sell out. My family and I spent the weekend on the mountain. We bought a night session and the following day and night session online one and half weeks prior to our trip. Thankfully we did, as they did sell those days out completely. The staff was very friendly and yet strict about the face covering guidelines. Annoying at times, but knowing that they're doing their jobs to stay open for us made sense. The mountain was well groomed, most of not all runs were open and operational. There was plenty of freestyle areas as well if you wanted to hit some boxes or rails. All in all it was a great trip, fun and comforting experience! Can't wait to go back! read more

I'm an IKON holder and was happy to see a 20% discount offered on the MTB tickets, but soon learned that wasn't really the case. When I went to buy them online it said $55 for early, $59 for day of, but you can't add your IKON pass to get the discount online? So I figured I'll pay $59 the day of at the window and get the 20% discount there. To my surprise it was $69 at the window, and with a 20% off it ended up being $55 and change. Could have just bought them early and paid the $55. That's crappy, they've obsoleted the value of having an IKON pass. Other cons: - Value when comparing to other places, like mammoth, that cost less but provide more - Lack of cell service everywhere, and the wifi at base doesn't work most of the time. Not only is it inconvenient but presents safety concerns. - 2 slow lifts that stopped often. It really limited how many runs you could take short timeframe their open - There were only a few trails (at least that were open the Saturday we went) - 1 green from the top, which was advanced for a green - 2 blues, which were only 2 at the top because they come together about a third of the way down and it's one the rest of the way - 2 black freeride, which is one trail named different for the top half and bottom half - 1 black technical, didn't ride it so can't comment - 3 XC trails which we didn't ride - The park closed at 4 pm which seems quite early since the sun doesn't set until 8 pm. Pros: - Condition of the trails was good - The trails we were able to ride were fun and flowy, kudos to the trail builders - Food was good and reasonably priced read more
