Getting there: So I just discovered that there are multiple parking lots on the other side of the Blvd. This trip we parking in Fox something. There are the original lots on moonridge, but if you are looking to park right in front I believe they charge now. Experience: This was my second time boarding on this side of the mountain as I usually go to Bear. It took us an hour to get from the parking lot to the mountain, so wasn't happy about that. I liked Summit because there were more activities than just boarding. They had a tubing park, rock wall, multiple bars. I think the main difference for me was the runs are longer . We had a limited time to get some runs in, so unfortunately, since we woke up late we were only able to squeeze in two. Tips: + Fair warning, parking fills up before 8:00am. Snow summit is a great place to learn how to ski or snowboard for first timers! And trust me I can confidently say this as someone from Florida who has never seen snow. My whole group did a lesson and I highly recommend especially if it is your first time doing any sort of snow sport. Instructors were super helpful and I would highly recommend doing it on a weekday or Sunday as there are less people. Make sure you order your tickets online beforehand because tickets can go out of sale. Do note that some of the ski lifts only operate during the weekend. Snow summit has convenient lockers as well as convenient rentals and has food, shops and even a Starbucks! read more

What happed to this place? I've been coming here for 10 years and we've always had fun and smooth days of skiing. Those days are long gone. It's dangerously overcrowded with drunk people and influencers, mismanaged, and the parking/shuttle situation is a joke. There are no signs with updates about which parking lots are full and so you have to just drive around, in horrendous traffic, and figure it out for yourself. It took us over an hour to find us a lot that wasn't full. After we parked, the shuttle line took over an hour as well. Finally, we were on the mountain...but the lift lines were ridiculous as well. We're talking over 40 minutes on chair 1. There were even long lines at Chair 10, which never used to have them. They run that chair so fast that people keep falling getting on and getting off, so they keep having to stop it. MAYBE if they slowed it down just a touch, it wouldn't have to stop every 10 seconds. This seems obvious, but maybe the guys that run that chair like seeing people fall over and over. As discussed in other reviews, the food is also overpriced and disgusting. Bringing your own snacks is highly recommended. Overall, it's 100% not worth it anymore. $150 ticket for a few super short runs at a third rate resort. Next time, we'll just drive the extra hours to Mammoth. And please, spare me your canned response, Francesca. You haven't address anyone's actual issues on here. read more

Took the lift for a hike at the top, then a lunch and brew afterwards. It was $39 for an adult lift ticket. Used to be free if you have a season pass for ski season. Haven't gone up in the summer in about 5 years. My nephew was out from Minneapolis on vacation for a week and he's never been on a lift. He loved it! Super great view of Mount San Gorgonio and the lake with a commanding bird's eye view of beautiful B.B. valley, my happy place! Split a chicken breast sandwich with the hubby and enjoyed a cold draft beer after our hike. I highly recommend if you haven't ever gone. The air is so fragrant and fresh. DON'T COME HERE!!! Read this!! Especially if you want to snowboard or ski!! Paid for 2 lift tickets and rentals... $430 Staff does terrible job at monitoring other boarders. Too many flying high-speed in the slow zones next to loading the lift. One came flying down and sent my girlfriend to the hospital with in first hour. AND the boarder did HIT AND RUN. No staff assisted in time, and boarder left. Got to use the lift twice before they closed. They didn't offer money back. Rental board had problems the whole time. 01/07/2022 Located at Big Bear California, we decided to go snowboarding with the kids. Drive 3.5 hours and checked in at our air bnb. My husband got an alert and checked out the website and instead of picking up their gears the next day if you pick it up after 3pm the day before you get a free ski/snowboard night . That was awesome and the kids get to warm up before the whole day of snowboarding. The draw back is that there is not much area to warm up only at the fire pit area. It was hella cold. Drove up here as I unfortunately couldn't find snow anywhere else in big bear at this time . They have free parking , it was super convenient to be able to park on-site, the place has lot's of shops, lot's of place to grab a bite to eat, shops where you can buy gear and all. The place is packed with people, they have lot going on here. They unfortunately have some super aggressive workers and especially one who came out and pretty much yelled at us to get off the snow he says, mind you we had just arrived at the place and we're simply checking it out before buying anything. I had never been there , I will come back but they need to train some of their employees to be helpful instead of being super aggressive towards customers . On 1-9-23 I received a response here on Yelp from an employee with the name of Franchesca , she like the other employees needs to work on her customer service skills, she said that my review should be on the town of big bear lake and not on their resort. I didn't go anywhere I'm big bear lake , I came straight in here and actually purchased food and had my kid slide down the tire tube, all paid for by us. WTF is up with "sneak up" needed in advance pre pay parking at SS in BB. What a cheap and thoughtless way to gouge the consumer yet again as you make up and news flash your own holiday schedule buried on your website!?! 2) Where and what does Ski Patrol do on this mountain? Great runs for those with experience, as in there are no bunny slopes at this resort and I would not recommend it for first timers. Chair 2 has more advanced greens that have parts that are blue, but chair 9 had easier greens and also fewer people on Sunday, Dec 29th, 2021. Love that the greens are a LOT longer than in Tahoe, and that the ski lifts are also pretty quick. In terms of food, we ate at the base of chair 2 and the orange chicken is where it's at. As a first-time snowboarder, I was really impressed with how friendly and helpful all the staff were. I went during perfect weather conditions, which made it even better. This is a review of the academy and some of the instructors. First, my 13 year old son had a number of lessons with Julie Steffy. The lessons were great. She struck the right balance of letting him go for broke but at same time measuring where he was really at and keeping him safe. Over the course of his lessons, he just enjoyed the sport more and more so we are in. Feel fortunate to have an experience where a kid just wants more. Also, going to the mountain together for the day is just a great experience. I had a lesson with Julie too which I greatly enjoyed and then had a private with Dennis. Dennis was great for me. We did green way a bunch of times and he was great at signaling a few key things for me to work on which was organizing and by the end I was riding better and he encouraged me next time to do Turtle which is more of an intermediate run. For me the expense of the lessons was completely worth it because I felt much more invested in the sport and more confident to go after it. When you sign up for a lesson, group or private, you can request an instructor and they try to accommodate you. read more

She offered to give me two bike lift tickets so we can come up one more time this season. Very nice gesture and made me feel so much better. Thank u! Took my son up with friends for his birthday and had my license but not the actual credit card I used to buy the tickets on your website page a month ago. The first lady I dealt with was so unhelpful in how to resolve the issue and not sympathetic at all. The supervisor got involved and after some time I finally realized it might be linked to my checking acct THANK GOODNESS so I could prove it was my card that I used or I really think the boys would have been not able to go. I even offered to buy the tickets again and they could credit back the other card. After about 15 min we were sent to the rental place and we were brought the bikes and gear out quickly but the guys over there were not friendly and welcoming at all. Bad start to the day but the boys ended up having fun and the girl I got coffee from and the girls I bought-shirts from were all very sweet after all that and helped make me feel better. Just was a horrible start of the birthday celebration experience. I get that you have a lot of fraud but you need to find a better way to alert your customers when they pay that they will have to bring that exact card with them. What if it is bought as a gift? A text or call a few days before would have been nice to get a warning. We live an hour and a half away so just can't run home to get the card. read more

so the first thing you'll probably notice is this place is pretty controversial -- look at all the 5's and 1's; you're gonna love it or hate it here bottom line, snow summit/bear mountain is where everyone from socal goes to learn or just get away for a day or weekend and that means it's gonna be expensive and there are gonna be crowds. people that actually ski or snowboard regularly generally make the drive to mammoth to avoid all of that -- so if you're reading this i can only assume you're beginner/intermediate or only go once or twice a season at most parking: just head to foxfire farms (2) early even if lower parking is available. the shuttles are fine if you get on one of the first ones and they drop you off right in front (vs hiking up) so you're in, let's say you hate lines: take chair 1 or 2 one time when you start your day and stay as far left on the map as possible (or right, in person off the lift), heading toward chairs 7, 10 and 5 and repeat. in my experience 5 generally has the least amount of people on it all day, sometimes zero people even when the other lifts are slammed so why 3 stars -- cause it's expensive for what you get and i don't see that getting better unless they limit ticket sales further (which they cannot do because they have to make $ while they can due to the unpredictability of the snow pack each year) it's still close, and much better if you aren't driving up the morning of + down the day after (so you can get parking early). it's casual enough to scratch your itch if it's something you haven't done in a long time but probably not going to do much more for you than that i guess final thought: let go of whatever experience you were hoping to have and try to enjoy what you have right in front of you alright that's it i guess. thanks for reading if you made it this far read more

The last time we snowboarded, we went to Bear Mountain, so we wanted to check out Snow Summit this time. They offer free birthday lift tickets at both (yep, even during covid and no prior reservation is needed :) just make sure the person/people with you do have their tickets purchased beforehand). Redeeming your birthday ticket is very quick and simple. You just walk up to the ticket window and show them your driver's license. You sign and date a form, then they give you your ticket for the day! The runs are very scenic, beautiful, and fun. I'm still learning how to properly control the board so we stayed on the low intermediate/intermediate runs (Miracle Mile and Summit Run). The only thing I didn't love about the whole experience was parking. We paid $20 (holiday price) to park in a lot, and if you end up having to park at the end, it's a far walk to the other side of the parking lot where the shuttle is. I know I sound like a big baby here but when you're walking that far in your boots, jacket, pants, and carrying your snowboard along, it's a workout! lol I'd definitely try looking for parking on Summit Rd first. It's free and they still give you a ride on the shuttle (if there's room). read more

Soooo.... I don't think I'll ever go back to Bear Mountain Ski resort after going to the night skiing at Snow Summit. It's cheaper, no lift lines, and the lights on the runs just make everything really pretty. Plus you don't have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn haha. I also live far so, night skiing gives me the chance to take my time to get to the mountain, check in, get settled before going off and spending the night away on the slopes. The only downside I think is that night skiing is really only good for people who are on the more experienced side of snow sport activities. read more

COVID-19 BOARDING... compared to my previous reviews, less of cluster f*. 60% capacity. At the time, no indoor dining. Mask at all times, except eating. Reservations required... if you buy your tickets on military base call Big Bear Guest Services and coordinate the reservation even if the ITT given to you says to do it in person. And expect a long wait on the phone to get through. We decided to hit the mountain because a good storm was dumping fresh pow. But what the hell were we thinking to board ON THE DAY of the storm. Preferably, day after storm is key but we timed it a little wrong. ANNOYING... - Premium parking is no longer available up front, must get advance and it's seasonal which were already sold out. Had to park in the Brownie parking lot and trailer in with the masses. - It was SO cold the wind factor was unpleasant. I used my gortex board jacket and it kept me dry and warm BUT even with mittens and hand warmers my hands were cold. My face was cold - with a mask and a rash guard. - Visibility sucked when snow fell. Luckily, my goggles have special lens (ChromaPop Photochromic Rose Flash) so I didn't have to switch lenses like others. I was able to see clear as day regardless how dim the sky was but the annoying part was snow coming down. - The fresh pow was soft and wonderful BUT even with a v-rocker board it was just too soft sometimes and harder to just cruise down. I was hoping the routes were packed down but not all were. So many bumps? I've been down these routes before but never felt this many bumps. All of us we're not happy with these aka speed bumps, constant sharp carves just to get down. Felt like it was more for skiers than boarders. - Can't eat indoors so imagine it being a storm and snow falling t and being forced to drink outside in 25 degree weather. In addition, they didn't set up any tents or canopy covers... it's basically sit outside at your own leisure. A lot of people were complaining, at this point you just want to leave the mountain and go home or eat elsewhere. We brought our own lunches and cooking stuff but it's at the car, at the Brownie parking lot, would be a different story if we were able to park in Premium. Yah, I don't think I'll board during covid again. Maybe if it's 40+ degree weather and right after a storm day. read more

When the snow is good, the skiing can be great here. I've been skiing here for decades & wanted to give it 5 stars but the experience has gotten more & more frustrating every year. We buy passes, get a season locker, & buy a premium parking pass, which though expensive does help get through the chaos. Even with the season parking pass, getting to the parking lot & parking is frustrating nearly every day. I don't think management has any idea of what the customer experience is. Having a locker is nice but the locker room is usually full of unsupervised kids and gear bags all over the floor. There are long lines in most departments. Still, skiing is my favorite activity & when the snow is good, I can tolerate the rest. read more

Lived in Victorville CA for 15 years. Went to take my kids 21, 18 & 17 to see the snow . Never been to Big Bear ever. Had an amazing time watching my big kids ride down the hill in the tubes. Grizzly Tubing was an awesome experience for my kids. The best part came at 3:30pm on November 26, 2022....when the sun went down and the snow got very icy and slippery. A super hero came to help me and his name is not Superman even though he was a Superman, but his name is DRUE McKEE!! YES!! HE IS AMAZING AND THE BEST AND KINDEST YOUNG MAN. He assisted me getting down the mountain like a Knight in shining armor. Please acknowledge this young man. To put the icing on the cake he went back up the mountain and helped my husband down too. 5for DRUE McKEE days me TIFFANY!! Yes let him know. read more

I love love love boarding now that I can get down the mountain on my feet instead of my face. I've never had any issues with safety or customer service here for anything... However, one main complaint I have is the hypocrisy of policy during COVID... now, this doesn't mean I dislike the resort whatsoever, and I am BEYOND grateful that they are open during such uncertain times... but... Please tell the older gentleman employee at the base with the bullhorn that doesn't work to stop YELLING at everyone about their masks being a hair under their noses... high altitude, full body sport, already hard to breathe.... if I take my mask down from my nose for two seconds to catch my breath, LET ME.... otherwise you'll be hauling my ass away in an ambulance for oxygen shortage. Secondly, for the amount of nagging about masks y'all are doing, you guys are CRAMMING parking shuttles FULL of people elbow to elbow, certainly NOT within 6 ft distance from one another. I was here first riding day of the season and the policy was 11 boarders on each side of the shuttle. The last time I went, after this last 10ft snow dump, the shuttles were sardined. I know the demand is high since everything else is closed and y'all need to make your money, but the whole damn point of there being no walk up lift reservations and walk up mountain access and the whole needing to reserve your day for non pass holders was to safely filter riders in at a manageable level to ensure the mountain can stay open..... last time I was there it was a MADHOUSE! Third, when I ask for a cup of water, I'm aware of the covid regulations, but nowhere does it say you can't provide water to guests... and I'm staring straight at you so I can clearly see if you're contaminating my cup..... instead, I'm told that because of covid I cannot get a cup of water as usual (remember our bodies NEED it) and I'm then told that I can either pay my next tax return for a bottle of water or I can go use the PUBLIC DRINKING FOUNTAIN! Like..... WHAT?! Do you guys understand or truly see how hypocritical that is?? Sure, lemme go use a PUBLIC drinking fountain during a pandemic... I love this resort and I will continue to come here until there is no mountain or until my old ass bones don't let me board anymore because y'all are basically in my backyard.... but dear god, for the amount of yelling about masks, y'all are really not doing your damndest to ensure that guidelines are fairly and reasonably followed considering the ass backwards procedures y'all have in place to COMBAT transmission... Just saying. Lighten up, or enforce guidelines the right way please cause I'm about ready to start flipping some of you off... after $800+ on my ikon pass, I come to the mountain to escape the shut show that this state is... do your part or don't do it at all. We were going to have lunch up there as well, but the day we went, too many people calked in sick , so it was closed... we'd go again, but I'd recommend you take your own lunch, because you never know about staffing issues... If you are a mountain bike riding enthusiast, this is the place for you- plenty of trails and the lift takes your bike to the top for you... This was my first trip here and my first time skiing. I got the impression that most of the employees did not want to be there! I asked a question; 'how do you walk in ski boots' and immediately regretted asking. The 2 girls at the counter just started talking low amongst themselves, and I couldn't help but feel it was in regards to the question I asked. Never got an answer, btw. The people at the ski lift entrance and exit areas were completely opposite! Very encouraging, and interactive with everyone. I was even approached by a ski instructor and he complimented me and my skills and offered a few tips! Very nice and different from my check in experience. Ski instructor Cody West ruined our trip yesterday. Maybe Cody needs to be reminded that this is a family resort like you guys claim. I can guarantee that guy doesn't have kids. I won't be bringing my ,not even two year old, daughter back here to learn how to ski because of him. All of the other instuctors and employees were great though. Even Cody's coworkers were talking smack on him after I told a few other employees what happened. A few said "he's always gotta be such a micro manager " or "he's the only one that is like that, so annoying" I was told by other employees I should go tell guest services what happened, but it was the end of the day and my toddler was getting fussy. Be a better person Cody... lighten up a little, and learn to have some compassion with people trying to teach their littles how to ski on the magic carpet run, it's not that serious. I hope you are treated with more compassion than you showed us, if you ever have kids of your own one day and teach them how to ski. read more

All the staff members are always upbeat and approachable. It's a little annoying with the amount of paperwork that needs to filled out either for activities or rentals but that is the owners' requests and NOT the staff's. Plenty of signage to help you find whatever you need. The radio channel on the loud speaker is classic! Music all ages can enjoy! Remember to grab a (free) trail map before heading out. We have been here for winter sports and mountain biking in the summer. Safety is their #1 priority and Mother Nature sometimes causes lifts to be shut off. So check out weather report before buying lift tickets and go from there. Lockers available. Few electrical outlets available outside here and there. Come early and get good parking and pack up your own food and drinks and enjoy that "tailgate" style! Plenty of people do that!!! read more

Horrible experience. Do not waste your time. Overpriced and horrible customer service. Nothing has been remodeled as they try to tell people. We recently purchased tickets for our family including our 3 and 1 year old who were supposed to go for free. An emergency ended up happening where I lost the car key and we couldn't make it to enjoy the day. We were at least hoping to receive a voucher to come back another time but they refused and had no sympathy for what happened. I will never go back there again. Came up to snow Summit when we visited big bear to do some sledding with my eight-year-old, this year they added a sledding hill which came with inner tubes and actually this thing was pretty damn fun. Chose to take the trolley option instead of trying to park there because you have to pre-pay parking, which could've been a pain in the ass so I decided just to take the tram right outside of town which worked out. Just a friendly heads up the lot to parking can be really muddy so be prepared to get dirty lol. Tickets for the sledding hill were $50 a person which wasn't too bad you have to remember you're in the mountains things cost money so so be it there was three lanes and only two of them are open you grab your tube the people help you up you go to the top and down you come, the employees were helpful and they kept the line moving but at one point the line did get kind of long, so come early and prepare. All in all it was a fun experience my son, and even my wife had a great time the only reason I might missing a star is for the shuttle ride back. They left us out there for 45 minutes in the snowstorm until the next trolley came to pick us up and drop us off they need to improve on that situation so that people are not waiting outside in the freezing cold. read more

Review Edited after good Customer Service communication and response to resolve my issue After Attempting to renew passes this year(spring of 24 for 24/25) for my family and not having clear understanding of the pass renewal deadlines, I had some relatively quick back and forth with customer service who ultimately ended up resolving the issue. For the final resolution I have changed my review and appreciate the customer service making things right. For the customer service taking time to contact me and resolve the issue I think that shows the company cares about its service and customers. For people interested in season passes I think between Ikon's website with differing dates to Bear Mountain's /Snow Summit's website, the lack of a simple renewal mailer and static renewal dates(ex: always March 1st to April 1st, etc) it is more confusing to renew that it needs to be. For reference to anyone looking to book season passes the most simplistic way to renew passes (but no renewal discount for BBMR, while there is for Ikon) is to know that sometime in early March/before April of the previous season you must renew to receive the best price. For ski conditions the 23/24 season would get fairly busy on weekends making skiing past 2pm-3 hard. Early morning would be much less busy, but on weekends to save time I'd recommend just paying for the parking pass with little kids. If you don't have kids, there's enough shuttle parking that you could avoid the paid parking. Customer Service within the park is friendly and they make attempts to help families with kids and keep it enjoyable. read more

This is a review of the Academy for kids - I wanted to give parents a heads-up on a few things. First, I had my printout of the bar code saying I paid for the lessons. Apparently when you get there, you need to first go to these kiosks and use your barcode to get a ID card for each kid with their name on it. You have to have these before even checking in for the lessons. After trying at the kiosks and the ticket counter with no luck, I was not able to get this pass. It was very frustrating! So at Customer Service, I did get the passes BUT was told there's an additional $80 fee for two kids the use of the slopes. REALLY? These are beginner kids who have never even seen snow, and they're charging us more money, after the $500 I've already spent for two lessons? That was very upsetting, along with the wild goose chase with the ID cards. So after that goose chase, guess what? You can get those cards in the Academy when checking in your child! So just so parents know, don't run around like I did! Just go straight to the Academy, but just know they'll charge you another fee for the slopes. The kids start off in an enclosed area where parents can see them and take pictures. It's awesome watching them getting going in the sport. The instructors all seem very patient and kind. Then eventually they move them to a more advanced spot where parents can't see a thing - while I understand this to some degree, it would be nice to have a little glimpse of them going down the hill. Then the lesson is over and they bag up the kids' belongings. Maybe a small "award" at the end of the lesson, like some hot cocoa for the kids or even a little Snow Summit magnet or keychain would be nice... especially for what we are paying for lessons. Amazing time here. Very busy on the weekend. we went. I will purchase rental equipment at the local shops because I discovered that's cheaper option. The staff here were all friendly and helpful. I recommend the The SoCal food spot out of the many I tried there. read more

This review is for the rental shop only. Do not rent skis from here! They failed to set up my bindings properly, leading to a super dangerous situation where one ski kept popping off as I skied down the mountain. After the same ski popped off three times, I took the skis back to the rental shop, explained the issue, and asked them to look them over and adjust them. The shop girl clearly had no technical training or clue what she was doing. She asked ME what needed to be adjusted -- I am not a ski tech! She fixed nothing and sent me back out on the same dangerous, faulty pair of skis. Against my better judgement, I accepted the skis back to try again. My next run the same ski fell off when loading the chair lift, then again midway down the run. So dangerous!!! The ski patrol who helped me down the mountain took one look and quickly said the issue was one heel binding was set too wide for my boot -- hence, why it kept falling off. He helped me get down the run safe. So, five stars for ski patrol and zero for the rental shop. read more

This was our 1st visit as a whole family and parking was full at the resort. Surprising since we went on a Tuesday. Parked in a Big Bear designated side lot. Signs were easy to follow and staff was onsite to guide us into a spot. They have shuttle bus that runs back and forth and well needed; otherwise it would be Aveo ugh walk in ski boots and/or hauling gear that far. Big Bear is owned and managed by Aspen Skiing Co. Which compared to their to the South makes a big difference. Things are easy to access and understand on their website. Staff is easy to find when on the resort and have questions. Most importantly for us was the structured kids ski lesson program. We had a horrible experience at another resort and the programs are night and day different from each other and Big Bear was the winner. With our poor experience we were able to ask and address a few concerns for our kids safety during lessons. Overall, the kids had a blast and for us were the biggest priority. Thank you.
