I bought a suit off the rack Saturday evening before heading to the airport, and when I got home, I realized the length of the suit legs was mis-labeled on the pants; they were too long. I set up a Yelp project looking for a tailor who would let me come in on Sunday to get alterations done. Within minutes, Esso responded to me letting me know he'd see me Sunday afternoon. Even with my flight delayed by a few hours, Esso fit me in his schedule, and had the pants ready for me Monday evening. Truly blown away by his professionalism, his service, and his flexibility. The dress is lined, but I can't imagine it took her more than an hour to do, if that. Unfortunately, I assumed the price might be $40 or so, so I didn't ask before I left it there. Had she told me the price it ended up being, I would have gone elsewhere. IT WAS $76 ! At that price, I was halfway to a new dress! Needless to say, I had to hand over my credit card and just take my dress... I could barely manage a whispered "thank you" as I walked out the door. I was beyond stunned. Am I completely off-base? Should it cost over $75! to do a simple hem - no ruffles, no extra pleats - just a straight hem? I learned two valuable lessons with this: First: DON'T go to Grace's Alterations next time, and wherever I do go, ask the price before leaving the garment.
