September 9, 2021 Stopped by to check this donut shop out; it's ok. Clean. Friendly staff. I'm on a mission to try all the donut places on the island; this is my 2nd. I live on the west end soo, Home Cut (off Stewart Rd) is my favorite for now. It's in a strip center with washateria and stop N rob. I got a small jalapeño cheese kolache (yum-they will nuke it upon request) a glazed blueberry cake and strawberry sprinkle donut; fresh and tasty but, no WOW factor.

Hot and fresh every time I come! Right down the street from my house, best place for Kolaches on the island!

Ate a donut here two separate days and I experienced an unusual sleepiness. Felt really drowsy. I would like to know true ingredients.

This place is so good! The doughnuts are delicious--soft and fluffy. The owner is so friendly too! Definitely recommend.

Best old fashioned donuts in town. And the small kolaches aren't bad either. So buttery!

Why 5 stars? Because it will be hard to come to Galveston again without stopping here…read more --- --- --- In general, I find myself to be more disappointed with Bagels than not. So when my wife suggested we make this our final stop before leaving town, I was just kind of along for the ride. It turns out, the ride was amazing. I was visiting NYC a few months earlier and went to a place that was wildly considered to have the best bagels in the city. They were perfectly fine but not really remarkable. But GBC served the kind of bagels we were still thinking about the next day. I think it was the softness that really separated them. Said softness was easier to detect from the snickerdoodle bagels we ordered with strawberry and honey butter cream cheese. Both were no doubt 5-stars. But for my "main course" was the Pelican Island, which was a hodgepodge of deliciousness all crammed betwixt two blueberry bagels. I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. We will 100% be returning for a second visit. We might even go as far as a visit here being an excuse for why we need to come back to Galveston a few months from now.

My husband suggested we give this a try, which surprised me because he universally hates bagels…read more "Too chewy." Well, this was an excellent stop. Bagels are more bready vs chewy. As a result, my husband loved it! The savory bagels were more to our liking - particularly the cheddar Jalapeno and the everything bagel. 10/10 would order and have these shipped if I could.

I got a t-shirt too that I wore for years until it was ultimately retired. I actually wrote a Yelp review about it that I deleted. In it, I said "The smell of the waffle cones filled the place with smiles and enjoyment. I knew I wanted a waffle cone." What a terrible critic. He will never be Yelp Elite. I haven't been back to Hey Mikey's since then, just because I haven't really been back to Galveston in some time, but my memories of the unique ice cream flavors and toppings remained. Heading back to Galveston for a cruise, I wanted to try and make a stop there again for nostalgia's sake. Instead of heading to the Airbnb, my girlfriend and I drove straight to Hey Mikey's as our first stop in Galveston. We got there around 8:45 pm, which was 15 minutes before they closed (our fault). This is no diss to Hey Mikey's, but almost everything else on The Strand on a Thursday night closes way too early, so it felt like everyone was at Hey Mikey's. The line was extensive in front of us and behind us even after it closed. After waiting through the line for quite some time, I got a waffle cone with their cereal milk ice cream, which had Fruity Pebbles in it, topped with Lucky Charms. They gave it to me with a temperature-changing plastic spoon that turned from yellow to purple when cold. The ice cream was sensational. What an incredible flavor. The only downside was the waffle cone being a little stale, but I fault that to it being a waffle cone ordered right at closing time. The next night, I returned with my cousins and ordered a cup of cereal milk ice cream with Cocoa Puffs as the topping instead. Fantastic stuff. Once again, being there too close to closing meant we had to wait, and we didn't get our ice cream until 9:30, a full 30 minutes after they closed. It was nice that they still served us though! One thing I did notice, which I don't know if it's a normal thing, is that since Hey Mikey's is the only ice cream shop open past 8 o'clock on most weeknights, they seem to get a lot of foot traffic after that time. Their menu is pretty large in its offerings. If it were just scoops of ice cream, the line would move fast, but so many people were ordering shakes, which are a lot more labor-intensive and removed a staff member from their assembly line to focus on the shake. I don't have any advice on how they could easily move the line in the later hours of the night, but man, those kids are working their butts off for everyone to get their late-night sweet treat. Hey Mikey's, you are just as good as I remember.

There a few tables inside the establishment and it was quite packed with a line, however service went pretty fast. From the traditional chocolate and vanilla to Americas colors, and Salted Carmel, lots to choose from shakes, bowls and a banana split. I had the double scoop Nutter Butter and Salted Carmel and the misses had a Brownie Sundae. If you're in Galveston, check it out. If you're a fan of cooling off inside, you can do that to to enjoy the ambiance.
