I had a Thai massage in Venice Beach last weekend and decided to commit to a massage routine and getting these rocks out of my shoulders for good. I've been told by therapists that my muscles feel like bones. It's terrible. Anyway, I decided to check out some of my local, inexpensive places and this was my first. And I have to look no further. For $48/60 minutes, the little tiny 'Lala' worked my shoulders SO HARD. I told her I liked it "very strong" so she was climbing all over the table, using her forearms, elbows, and knees. She knew exactly where to work without my telling her, too. I will probably be really sore tomorrow but that's what I needed! The only downside was that one woman, as she was checking out, decided to tell her life story in an 'outside voice' and the guy that came into the bed next to mine was loudly groaning every time his masseuse touched him. read more

I'm a massage lover and have done countless massages in NYC at several places. This is the worst massage experience ever. Not very professional. The lady who massage me only knows regular routine and has the weakest hands. Space is limited and really really simple. The worst part is I don't think they change every towel after the last massage cause I can smell the last person's breath at the moment I put my face into the hole. Woww this place is now joke!! Walk-ins are welcome but I made an appointment for a massage in advance anyway and when I showed up 5 minutes early they took me right away. I was seen by Maggie who was amazing!!! It was exactly what I'd been needing and I didn't have to tell her to focus more on certain areas because she actually figured it out on her own which was awesome. She was really thorough the entire time and almost put me to sleep at one point because of how good she is! On top of that she's really sweet and at the end she even wiped off my mascara that ran down my face lol. I had a great first experience and already love this place. Plus the prices are great. Not sure what all the fuss is about. I've been to no frills massage establishments before and this is definitely not the best. I had to ask repeatedly for more pressure. Even when I asked for more pressure, it was still not satisfactory. The massage was fine; I'd call it mediocre, really. I enjoy a very intense, pain inducing massage and that is not what I received at Snowflakes. I kept waiting for the intensity to increase and it never did. I came by for a massage because of the high ratings..no too sure why it's so high. The first 15 minutes of my massage was the guy pressing on my back with a towel covering my back. I kept waiting for the massage to actually start and not this weird towel massage? 15 minutes go by and he starts massaging my neck and I kept saying to go softer but he didn't seem to listen. I had to stop the massage every 5-10 minutes to tell him to go softer. He kept going in and out of the room to talk to other people and I kept looking up at the clock to see how much time has passed. In addition, the guy next to me kept moaning and groaning the entire time. This massage was SO unenjoyable and I wish I could take it back. The hour massage was $50 and I left $10 as a tip because I felt bad. The receptionist kept watching me fill out the tip part on my receipt and her mood changed after I left 20% tip. My calves were crying when I hobbled in, but when I left I was ready for another 50 miles. I highly recommend the Snowflake! I wish I had been more outspoken and aware, as I felt during the massage that it felt longer than 30 min, but I had no sense of time and by the time it was over I realized an hour had passed. I will gladly strip down and get under that little towel. It seriously does not bother me. I live nearby and used to be a regular, until I had Michael as my masseuse. Immediately it's realized the space is not the most comfortable; minimal privacy at best and too warm temperate wise. After reading the most current reviews to this establishment, I thought: "what the heck!" and headed to Snowflake Spa during my lunch hour. I was a bit nervous as I didn't want to head into a sketchy, dirty type of massage hole in the wall. I walked to the door & at glance, it was very dark and looked closed but the neon "open" sign in the window told me different. There were 3 ladies sitting up in the front window. One which opened the door & asked what I wanted. I got a 30 minute reflexology foot massage. She led me down the dim lit, narrow hall pass 3 other table nooks with curtains into my room. I hung my coat up above my table & placed my things on the floor. I then took my shoes/socks off & lay on the table. She began the massage & needless to say...she definitely knew what she was doing! It was one of the best foot massages I ever received. I was so relaxed. Asian flute music was playing through a main speaker. She covered my eyes with a warm towel & covered my body with a blanket. She used massage oils on my feet. It was such a wonderful experience so much so that I didn't want my lunch hour to end. $26! Cash. If I were to pay credit/debit they charge you tax. I asked for "strong" pressure and wished I hadn't. Most of the time I was gritting my teeth as she dug into my back. The problem was my sore muscles were in my butt and legs. I'm a bit bias because my husband and I owned a spa a decade ago and while we had a lot of talented massage therapists, I cannot say enough about the massage itself. The place as stated is not glamorous but what you get is a fantastic massage. She worked out my kinks as i have been suffering from neck/rhomboid pain. I specifically asked her to focus on those areas as to not waste time on lower body since that's not what I was there for and she delivered. I stepped into SnowFlake & was happily greeted & shown to a table behind a private curtain after mentioning the length of time I wanted (30-minutes). The therapist came quickly after I got situated on the table & asked specifically what I wanted her to focus on. She set a timer & got started right away, making sure to ask how the pressure was. I enjoy LOTS of pressure & she gave me just that. The next 30-minutes went by all too quickly. The massage was bliss & she hit all of my major problem areas. When the timer went off she asked if I wanted to add time. When I said "no", I never felt pressured into buying more time. She finished up & offered me water as I was paying. I only had to wait about 5 minutes or less and then the brought me in. 5/31/15 - I am currently in NYC and wanted a nice foot massage. I came to YELP and noticed Snowflakes Spa was close to my hotel and had somewhat good reviews. It was 2:55pm and I called up there and asked if they could provide a couples massage for me and my partner. To my surprise, they told me to come right on in at 3:15pm. Once we arrived, the lady led us to the back of the building and we got ready for the massages. I will say that the massage was wonderful... we also got a foot massage. So it was 30 mins on the back and 30 mins on our feet. Once we were done, we walked back up to the front of the establishment where we were greeted by a male cashier. The total was $100 for two people for 60 mins. Which I was okay with... When I handed him my credit card for the payment, he immediately said that it would be a $5.00 credit card fee! Really?!? I looked around the establishment and there were no signs anywhere indicating there would be a $5.00 extra charge... However, I paid it since I really had no choice. Next, he handed me the receipt and I then wrote the tip amount on there. He looked at it and then said, "two people equal 20% tip". I said excuse me? He repeated himself and then proceeded to look behind the counter and pulled out a sign that said "20% tip". I asked him, "so you are forcing me to pay 20%?". He said that it's the policy. I disagreed and told him I placed the amount of tip I wanted to provide on the receipt. He then began badgering me about this 20% tip. Therefore, I grabbed the receipt and crossed out the tip amount and rewrote the final amount and told them I would pay the tip in cash to the two women instead. He quickly went in the back and grabbed one of the ladies and she came out and I provided her with the cash tip. I didn't want to take my frustration out on the ladies because they were both nice and they had nothing to do with the owner pressuring me to provide a 20% tip. So with all that being said, the massage was nice and I felt great afterwards but the owner quickly changed my attitude with his attitude. read more
