Unfortunately, I didn't catch both of their names, but their level of customer service was exceptional. They were friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the night. For food, we ordered the lumpia and the pepperoni flatbread pizza. Both were absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend trying them. We also enjoyed a couple of ice-cold beers. I ordered a glass of water as well, and my water was refilled almost immediately every time it was empty--a small detail that really stood out. The DJ kept the atmosphere fun and lively, and we were able to catch the MMA fights on their multiple flat-screen TVs, which made the experience even better. My buddy Jason says this is the best dive bar in Cerritos. After this visit, I'd have to agree. In fact, the customer service we received here was better than what I've experienced at many upscale, "bougie" establishments. Good God. I don't know who runs the place here but came in with friends and the same 40-something fat white woman playing with a mechanical mini-penis a few months ago and calling her friend "nigga" is now working the bar on Sunday afternoon?!? Really??? Thankfully, they kept the girl, Mel, who works the Sunday and Monday evenings.....she's awesome. Keeps me full and will comp me a drink or two as I do tip well. It seems apparent that the white haired tweaker, "Rich" is jealous of this girl or something. Sits and taunts her when she starts her shift. I've been coming here since Sept and it seems to me there's so much obvious bar politicking going on in this place with 40+ yr olds acting like a high school kids. They also got rid of the Monday night tacos and now if we want to eat and drink on Mondays we have to eat first or deal with the crappy chili that sits all day in the pot. Who's the idiotic rocket scientist that believes chili and hot dogs trumps badass tacos and quesedillas??? This was the main reason why I could spend 6 hrs there every Monday night. I used to look forward to my Monday night football, freshly made tacos, and a bartender who engaged you with fun, friendly, and light conversation. Never felt like a stranger from day one. But, with no good food anymore, it's time to try somewhere else where I can eat and drink. Perhaps if this place gets its together, I may be back....maybe only on a Sunday or Monday evening....but based on the history in these few months forget it otherwise. read more

My husband and I have been coming to this bar for the last 6-7 years and enjoyed every aspect of this place UNTIL recently. The personnel has changed in the last couple of months and the place has seriously gone DOWN hill. I took a couple of my girlfriends in with me one night, and the bartender actually asked, "what are you hookers up to tonight"? We use to go 3-4 times a week. Now we go in maybe 1-2 a month, when we go next door to get a sandwich. They replaced a really good bartender with a couple of dressed up tweeker rednecks. I MEAN THIS OLDER WHITE HAIRED GUY WAS HIGHER THAN A KITE!!!!! To make it worse he stuttered. Nothing worse than a stuttering crackhead. Only thing good now are the prices. read more

Snug Harbor is supposed to be some sort of longshoreman bar(which means half of 'em are unemployed 9 months out of the year) Cash only, no beer on tap and a bunch of sucker punching scumbags (always more than one of them, naturally) that follow paying customers into the parking lot and attack said paying customer when they walk out the door. Oh yeah, and management and the bartenders know damn well whats going on and allow and even condone this punk-b!tch behavior. That's Snug Harbor in a nutshell. LB and Lakewood area have plenty of places to go have a drink. Avoid this dump. Only a grease fire could make Drug Harbor better. read more

Worst nights, Sun and Mon....the bartender caters to regulars and ignores people she does not know...I went on 3 different occasions thinking she may have had a bad night. She overcharged me for drinks I had already paid for and took money I left on the bar while I was outside on the phone! The day shifts on Fri, Sat and Sunday are great! I am recently sober and just wanted to play pool. I've never been greeted this way at this establishment. He told us to leave or buy a drink. We kindly told him to fuck off and unfortunately I will never step foot in this bar ever again. Our close friend passed away recently and they are having a Remembrance Birthday but unfortunately I will not be attending because I'm appalled at the way we were treated. You've lost my partner, me, and our friends as neighborhood customers and I will continue to tell friends and family not to go to this bar. Never seen this bartender in all my time of going here and hope I never see him again in my life. Sorry to the bartenders I've built good relationships with but do yourself a favor find another bar that will treat you like a community because this will never be the one.

I drive through five or six zip codes of Long Beach daily and pass a lot of Mexican bars, and I've always wondered if a gringo like me would be welcomed in. After all, a wise man once said that "the only color a business should see is green" it was-- Frederick Douglas or Kermit? Anyway... If I had bothered to read the reviews, I may have been discouraged to enter. Half of the reviews mention "stabbing" and half mention "hookers", which would lead me to believe that El Paraiso is Spanish for "the knife-wielding prostitute". Instead I read the reviews while checking in, where I wrote the tip, "This place is only scary to people who get scared. Show respect to others and you"ll get it back. We're all brothers and sisters just trying to drown out or celebrate our meaningless lives." I was drunk when I wrote that-- so drunk that I might have had, in fact, a knife in me at the time-- but I'll stand by it. Not too crowded at 11pm on a Friday night, a DJ blasting music in Spanish, we slid up to the comfortable bar and met Emilia, a sweet lady who offered a shot of Patron for the birthday boy. We got a few looks from the locals, so I did feel a little like an elephant at a donkey park (weird analogy, I know, but "black guy eating pho" seemed racist). Like any new dive, I just avoided looking too long at a girl so I didn't get the ol' "qué estás mirando?" with an upside down question mark from some hombre. Or chick with an ombre. My six vodka and cranberry drinks were bright red, usually a sign of a weak drink, but the drink was served in a tall glass instead of a lowball, so I'm assuming it had the right pour but with more juice. ( I guess I could have asked for "less juice" in Spanish, but I probably would have said "games hands" or "little ghost" instead and THAT, mi amigos, is what gets you stabbed.) I ordered six grey goose and crans (I learned "OTRO!" at my first Mexican party- my friend told me "OTRO!" meant "CHEERS" so I kept trying to explain to the hostess that I didn't want another shot as she kept pouring them because I kept shouting "OTRO!" followed by "No, no, no, I didn't want another...oh fine".) They were only $7.50 which is cheap. That leaves quite enough money for gauze for all the stab wounds. So, anyway, how was the crowd? The only trouble we saw was a small fight that broke out at the end, but that could be anywhere (Emilia kicked him out). I mean 36/36 has more shady people. Met some nice, friendly, funny regulars (Ivan and Blanca). One guy stared at me. I didn't feel like I could totally be my silly self, like handing a wrapped stick of gum to the birthday boy with my mouth. That move seems pretty stab worthy. El Paraiso. A cut above the rest. And your ribs.
