First thing to know is if you go in there after 12n it is a "bikini bar".. had a great time with bartender Crystal, She is a 'class act'.. very welcoming. I will say she looks lovely in the very skimpy outfits for which this place is known. It's much larger in size than this area's typical "dive bars", and has room for several pool tables across from the long bar area. It was also one of the few places open during the widespread COVID shutdown, and did a 'land office business' while most every other place was shut down. Drinks are reasonable and they offer a decent pour if you are ordering cocktails. Another 6am open, and think they are open late at night..I personally am not out at that time, but think they are open until 2am. Of course always lots of men, especially after noon..go figure! This is the kind of local dive bar you can appreciate for its simplicity - no frills, just cheap drinks, pool tables, and even a comfy couch in the corner if you just want to hang out. It def feels like a neighborhood spot, since many of the customers seemed to be regulars. On the night I visited, the bartenders were all women dressed in bikinis or lingerie. That might not be everyone's vibe, but it didn't bother me. To me, they're just doing their job and making a living, and it didn't take away anything from the experience. Cute little spot. So far the past 5 times ive been here.. everyone has been friendly. Not sure maybe cz im a chick? the girls are really sweet. In about the duration of sitting at the bar for 1 hour... ive been asked if im good on a drink or needed another one a good 5 times. That shows me they are attentive and actually paying attention. Honestly we need service like this more in places like these bars. The bouncer dude by the door has been chill with me the times ive been here. My little sister from Arizona was fond of the Sunday chill mornings. Most of my visits were in the evening. Its dimly lit so ladies... dont worry about having perfect make up cz the lighting will hide any flaws you may have trust! Theres 2 pool tables... i barely see them used. Like music box thing there to play music. The restroom is not the prettiest cz of the interior..but its not as bad as a few dives ive been to in anaheim The customers there are actually very approachable. Very friendly. I havent spoken to any asshole there yet so definitely a great plus. The front of the building is very lit..i feel extremely safe leaving and getting into my car. I was actually getting a prime rib from the Meat Co. next door (see my review). They asked if I could come back in 15 minutes while they trimmed and tied my $350 piece of meat. So at 11:30 in the morning, I decided to stop in and grab a quick cocktail. It's a dark bar and I expected to be the only patron on a Wednesday. SURPRISE! The bar stools were already 3/4 full. I was quickly greeted by the bartender, Niki. Great smile, and I could tell that she was clearly a professional bartender. She made it a point to know my name in the 15 minutes I was there, but made it a point to make certain I was taken care of. I had to return a day later to the Meat Co, for some oxtails. Again with time on my hands, I stopped into the sportsman. Niki was still behind a bar and immediately greeted me by name. It was a little louder and rowdier than I would've expected at 11:30 in the morning. I had another cocktail and left after another 15 minutes. I'm not certain I would make this my usual hang out, but I love the professionalism that I experienced in my 30 minutes over two days. read more

This place hasn't changed much since I started visiting 15 years ago lol. This is never my bar of choice, but friends wanted to go since it was nearby. Every now n again you get a rude bouncer. What their problem is, I have no idea, I'm in my 30's and I'm showing you my card like you asked, so check your ego. The inside looks the same as it did years and years ago. Pool tables are in decent shape but it's hard to play because people are huddled around them and constantly getting in the way. Music is very loud so naturally people are trying to yell over the music which doesn't help. Still got the ladies in the skimpy outfits so guys can perv out on em and maybe throw a few extra bucks towards a tip, not my thing but whatever. This is a locals-type sports bar where the bartender wears a string bikini. There's a juke box and some pool tables, but it's very much a quiet hangout spot. Not the kind of place to go and get rowdy. I went to have a couple drinks with a friend and just catch up, but don't think I'd do much else there. The bathroom stank of urine, but I guess that's to be expected at a primarily all male bar. I mean, if you live nearby and want to walk somewhere to get a few drinks, this is an OK spot. It's rare for me to come across a dive bar with actual dive bar prices, the bartenders are cool, service is attentive, the well cocktails are stiff, the patrons are chill and they take credit cards with no additional credit card fees or order minimums. To date ever since I picked up drinking booze as a favorite pastime, I can only think of two dive bars that meets 5 of the 6 things in my book of what makes a great dive bar: The Roost Cocktails in Silverlake/Atwater Village area and The Office Bar & Grill in Lincoln Heights. The caveat here being The Roost is a cash only spot while the Office Bar & Grill actually charges credit card fees on top of the drinks and/or food that you order, which is unfortunately inconvenient but it is what it is. The Sportsman is the first dive bar I've been to that fulfills all 6 of the things that make a dive bar great. With that said, this is just my first time here so who knows? This review might change in the future upon future visits to this spot but based on initial assessment, I'm impressed. Unlike bars in East LA, DTLA, Glendale, or in the San Gabriel Valley, I find that this particular thing about dive bars seem to be totally non-existent in the LA County area and that is female bartenders dressed in bikinis for the entirety of their work shift. What is not to like about some young nubile T&A walking around and serving booze with a smile? It's every guy's fantasy. It's basically a strip club minus the actual strip club with cheap booze, pool tables, and a Touch Tunes Jukebox. I ordered 3 vodka soda's on well and my total came out to be less than $20 on a Saturday night at about 6-7PM or so. Not sure if they have happy hour or if that's the usual price but I'll take it. The same 3 vodka soda's at my two favorite dive bars would run me up $30 before tip at The Roost and $24 at the Office Bar & Grill. Don't get me wrong though. There was a point in time in both of those bars where well cocktails used to be $4-6 a drink, respectively but the pandemic and recent across-the-board price inflations have hit my usual drinking holes and it's just become unaffordable for me to drink alcohol on the regular at these two spots. But Sportsman is charging what my old bars used to charge like several years ago before the pandemic and before the price inflations--the only downside being that the drive is so, so out of my way. It's a 21 mile one way trip for me from East LA. Otherwise, if I lived closer to the area, The Sportsman would have become my new drinking hole--hands down. No contest. Taylor and Lauren were the bartenders that night and wow--smoking hot--but not just that, they were very attentive and made sure I always had a drink in my hand the moment it was empty. And it was a pretty packed Saturday night. All 3 pool tables were occupied, the front of bar were filled up except a couple of spots here and there. It's also very dark inside. Not so dark that you can't make your way to the bar but definitely pretty dimly lit inside. The bar itself is U-shaped space and seats maybe 12 people max at any given time. The pool tables take...quarters, I think? I didn't check how much it'd cost for a game but I'd imagine it'd be a $1 to $2 per game. Pool sticks weren't in the greatest of conditions but they'll do the job. The entrance leads you down a couple of flights of stairs in an L-shape curve and you are immediately greeted with the trio of pool tables to your right along with the digital Touch Tunes jukebox while in front of you is the front of bar 'area'. TV's line the walls at the front of bar and more TV's also line the wall on the 'pool table' side. Restrooms are to your right hand side but at the far back end. You'll have to zig-zag your way through the pool tables and front of bar area OR walk to the front of bar, make a right, and walk straight down the hallway. It's a cramp restroom with two standing toilets and one normal toilet with a bathroom door. Bathroom door doesn't lock all that well but it'll close--just keep your hand against it when doing your business. There's also a basic, dingy-ass sink with no soap but the water faucet works. The crowd was mostly a mid-40's to mid-50's crowd with a light sprinkling of mid-30's folks. Mostly guys but there were a few groups with girls. I think my group was the 'youngest' group in there. Definitely not a young people spot or for the hipster crowd, which is perfectly fine by me. All in all, I like it enough that I'd consider stopping by again, if I happen to be near this part of town or my arcade gaming friends just wanted to have a drink at their usual drinking hole. read more

I've been coming to the Sportsman for the past few years. It's a nice spot to get a beverage. It's kinda like a dive bar with pretty lady serving drinks. Don't expect to get an expertly made craft cocktail. Stick to Beer and basic drinks. On Friday they sometimes have a DJ. On Sundays they have free appetizers. There are some pool tables if you want to play. All in all a low key spot to chill look at some pretty ladies while enjoying a cocktail. read more

Didn't yelp this place before stopping in so I had NO idea it was a bikini bar. What a pleasant surprise that was!!! Beautiful girls. Great customer service. Even though there was this lonely older gentleman who you could tell wanted to take up the lovely young bartenders time, and she was so polite to oblige him yet she always kept an eye on us to make sure we didn't need anything. I used to come here about four or five times a week but I won't anymore after today. Besides the bathrooms being dirty and disgusting the women are not that friendly. today I walked in I wasn't even greeted. Nobody said hello to me all they said was what do you want to drink handed me a beer the woman bartending today was especially rude maybe because she's on steroids, like trwnbolone which she told me. She's going through her menstrual cycle possibly or because she apparently has a bodybuilding competition coming up, but none the less was super rude. One was super rude to me today and I was rude back and the bartender took the other guys side and made me feel very alienated and like I never wanted to come back so I told her I would not come back and I'll be taking my business to Distractions and Pub 33, the bartenders there talk to you they flirt with you they make you feel good and they serve you drink in a timely manner and they don't make you the bad guy at the bar over wanting to leave! I'm glad to see the Sportsman bar back open again. They don't serve food normally but they do have nice sights and good pool tables and plenty of TV's for ones viewing pleasure. Hannah has the worst attitude here. Sweet at first and super bipolar the next. Dont go on a Hannah night you will not be served and will be left waiting 30 to 40 minutes. .There is a little short bouncer in here in his 20's about 5'3 African American who is the definition of short man syndrome. He holds grudges because I wanted to finish my drinks and my dart game (that I paid for) when he said it was closing time at 140 AM. The other bouncers at this place are great guys Trenton etc... but last time I was there the 5'3 bouncer tried to throw me out because of his personal vendetta until my friends demanded to speak to the manager and owner who quickly silenced the little man and told him that he needs to get off his high horse (albeit only 5'3) But that was enough for me and my friends to call it quits. read more

Aside from the bartenders, I felt like I was at the world's biggest sausage festival, and I'm not talking about bratwurst here. It was like swimming in a pool of mildly warm hot dogs. The bar tenders were totally chill...and funny. However hot they may be, I am definitely bringing my girlfriend with me next time because she'll get a gas out of the guys trying to get a chance at the waitresses. I gave it 5 stars for the 5-Star talent behind the bar. I also like that they have a digital Dj machine that you can pay-to-play songs. Can be a pretty rough crowd in here at times, so choose your music wisely. You definitely do not want to look at some of these gents in the eyes.
