My boyfriend and I did the five-venue bar hop at Roxanne's and had such a great experience from start to finish. We were welcomed by our event host Meredith with a champagne toast to kick off the evening, which was such a fun touch. The experience includes one drink at each venue, and at the distillery you also get three small tasting samples that are 99 proof. We started at the distillery and it was a very cool experience. You get snack pairings along with the tasting samples, and Meredith was extremely knowledgeable about how everything is made. You can tell there is a lot of passion behind the experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Next we went to the Exhibition Room speakeasy, which was honestly one of the coolest speakeasies I've been to. You enter through a phone booth with a password, and once inside it truly feels like stepping into the Prohibition era. The drinks were incredible -- my cocktail there may have honestly been the best drink I've ever had, and I've had plenty over the years. I was amazed by the design and attention to detail.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been to many tiki bars before, but this one really stood out. Cool dive bar with a twist. Came for a drink as we were meeting up with some friends. Place is quite big with a sections that's almost a dance floor. Plenty of outdoor seating both front and the back. Believe the back is a different establishment but could be affiliated. It's another bar, a tiki bar. It was pretty empty due to it being a Sunday afternoon when we went but service was very nice. Food came out pretty quickly too! Every visit I'm always greeted by the guy who is always dressed dapper at the door (I'm a fashionista). The bartenders always makes good drinks. Came to Roxanne's for Long Beach Burger Week, and it was my first time venturing in the California Heights neighborhood. Street parking was easy as it was 2PM on a Wednesday. The interior is very retro with old jukeboxes and bicycles, plus an ornate wooden ceiling. There is also a pool table and a cool outside patio area, so I can see how this place can get lively at night. There was just one server manning both the bar and the tables, but it wasn't too busy so she managed fine. She was friendly, though did forget to bring the waters and utensils. We tried the pupusa burger and the fire grilled poblano burger. The pupusa burger was interesting but tasty, and I liked the crispy fried yuca. The grilled poblano burger had a nice kick to it and a crispy toasted bun. It was served with a large side salad. We also ordered plantain lollipops for dessert, which were warm and yummy, though the Salvadorean cream was a bit salty and I don't like the combo of salty and sweet as much. I was surprised to find out they make their own whiskey, they have live music on certain nights, and there is a billiards table. I started off w/ a Fuji, a Japanese whisky. I was impressed by their selection of liquor. I saw a bottle of DJ 1942, and a bottle of Don Papa rum (a rum from the Philippines). To eat, I had their cheeseburger. Roxanne's also offers items like pupusas and a pupusa burger. My cheeseburger was really good, and the fries were GBD. The meat was nicely seasoned, juicy and filling. The arugula gave it a nice crunch and peppery taste. I was also surprised that a lot of families come here on a weekday. This is a neighborhood bar. Based on the interaction b/t the bartenders and the clientele, I could tell there was a lot of familiarity. Although I'm glad I dropped by, unfortunately Roxanne's is too far out of the way for me to be a regular. I WFH and just don't get out as much as I used to. I visited Roxanne's for the first time during a music and art event, where several vendors set up in the front and back area and live performances happened in the outdoor stage. This place is a neighborhood gem. It's not pretentious or touristy. It is low key, down-to-earth and casual. You enter in the street side and the interior is the main bar and restaurant area. It looks like your typical divey pub but when you exit out in the back, there is a tropical goth tiki bar and another speak easy bar. This is enough to tell me to keep an eye on their programming because they must have fun themed nights. Food is pretty as well as good. Not pictured is chicken taquitos and shrimp tostadas, which were plated nicely. I had the Buffalo wings, side of fries and fried yucca with chicharones. Definitely a spot to order all the apps to share and to sit around and day drink with friends. I love a low key spot with friendly servers, chill atmosphere and good food and strong drinks.
