For my birthday party, my husband was going to plan it. But after he came back with the initial plan... we thought it would be better to use a party planner. So I contacted Marni a bit last minute (6 week-ish prior to the event) to plan a backyard party for about 25 - 30 people. In the beginning, I was concerned because of my smaller budget and last minuteness of contacting Marni. However, her organization, attention to detail, ability to use technology to communicate (Google Drive), connections within the industry (rentals, bakeries, catering) went way beyond my expectations. She even used a coupon for the alcohol purchased for the party! We went with a disco gold and black theme, and her ability to adapt the backyard layout, creativity, and make it personal for my birthday was superb. She worked with my budget, was able to add special touches to my party that really made it memorable (GIF booth - never heard of it before this, but after having it at my party, I'm considering doing it for future parties!). Just the small touches like having signage on trash versus recyclables, where the bathrooms were located, specialty cocktail drinks, really made it unique. My husband and I loathe any kind of event planning, but wanted to have a big wedding after so much isolation during the pandemic. Marni is basically the best ever. My wife and I hired Marni a little over a year before the wedding and she made sure to keep us on track with vendors and scheduling to make the whole process and stress free as possible. Right from the beginning we knew she was going to be amazing. She agreed to meet with us when we initially called her with less than 36 hours notice. Once we agreed to hire her and gave her a rough estimate of our budget she blocked everything out so we knew generally what to pay for each vendor and service we wanted. She was incredibly organized, sending us an insanely long and detailed Google spreadsheet of all the tiniest details of the wedding and reception. Any special cake cutting utensils? Not something I would have thought of. Beyond that, Marni was incredibly sweet and has built strong relationships with the vendors she recommended to us, so everyone got along well and worked together to make the process and the day perfect. Marni was/is an incredible wedding planner and made our whole wedding journey the most amazing experience, especially given the circumstances. Jason and I originally hired So Smitten Special Events (SSSE), specifically Marni, in 2019, right before covid hit. Our wedding was originally supposed to be 05/17/2020, so lockdown happened right before we were all set to go (literally 2 days after my bridal shower is when the world shut down!). Understandably, we were very stressed out and uncertain of how to move forward. Fortunately, because of Marni, we did not have to deal with any of the financial set backs many other covid wedding couples had to face. I know of people who got completely screwed over by vendors and lost all their deposits, depsite covid not being their fault. However, because of Marni's great relationship with a wide network of amazing contacts/vendors, we were barely inconvenienced by covid. We had the lovely Sabrina as our day of coordinator and she made everything go by so smoothly on our wedding day. We had the amazing experience of planning and having our wedding reception this past March. Having the So Smitten team by our side through this journey was so crucial for bringing our visions to fruition! With only six months to plan a two-location and same-day event featuring 120 reception guests, it was really helpful to have our coordinator Shaunte as a sounding board. My wife and I wanted to handle most of the vision crafting, and so we decided to go with the Day-of coordinator option which still included 2 phone consultations and a walkthrough debrief of the venue. Moreover, Shaunte was always available via email/text to answer questions that came to mind (ranging from insurance, to security options, to contracts etc.), and she was always helpful in catching any overlooked logistical details. We brought Shaunte on board with only 4 months to go. As we juggled the various aspects of the event, she was very patient; she worked with our at times slow pacing yet was mindful to keep us on track with essential timeline checkpoints. This included a very precise worksheet that detailed all relevant information (the vendors, family, schedule info etc) for the day. Developing and making available such a central repository was essential for keeping everything in order as the event was fast approaching! The first time we spoke with Marni about our wedding, she said, "I am going to assume you've never planned one of these things." We were so relieved that someone finally understood our position. Vendors far and wide forget that when planning a wedding, most people are novices. Marni was there to help ask questions we didn't know we even needed to ask!
