There aren't very many Thai places around here that have in person dining anymore. A few of our favorites only do carry out since Covid. We decided to try So Thai since you can eat at the restaurant. Ambiance was decent - not very full tonight. Food was tasty - we had soup, fresh rolls, a sweet chili cashew dish and a peanut curry dish. The service was friendly but not all that well paced. The food is excellent. The restaurant itself is very attractive and authentic. I've been there four times in the last five weeks with a friend. The flavorful Thai food is amazing and keeps me coming back. Today, however, my salmon green curry wasn't as wonderful as normal. Maybe there was a different cook in the kitchen? It was served in a bowl rather than on an oblong plate. Bring back the version on the plate please! The only down side to dining there is that the wait staff is not very friendly. No smiles. No greeting. No "Oh hi, it's you again." No goodbye. Also, we stacked our own dishes on the table and when the waitress came to have us pay our bill, she didn't even take the stack of plates with her. If they could improve the service (it's a five now, bring it up to a 10), I think they'll find more people will be dining in instead of getting takeout. read more

Delicious! Surprised that there were not very patrons on a Saturday afternoon. I shared the pad Thai with my daughter (portions are quite large!) and the crab Rangoons are to die for. The pad Thai is absolutely delicious and they provided quite a bit of peanuts (which is always loved...at least by us!) and the crab rangoons were perfect: crispy on the outside and packed with cream cheese and crab on the inside - absolutely delectable with the sauce. If I lived in Michigan, this would be my place to go for Thai ALL the time. So good!! read more

This food was bland,didn't seem fresh, and cold. I arrived to the restaurant ten minutes before my order was supposed to be ready to my surprise, it was ready. Nice. I jumped in my car, grabbed a spring roll for the ride, and it was cold. I don't understand how it could be cold I just picked it up. I went home, I heated all the food up the whole order was cold. I could have made a pass on that issue. If the food was tasty. Sure not as good as it used to be. Their Tofu pad thai used to be so good! I got it yesterday and the tofu wasn't even cooked!!! So Thai is a staple in our household. We have tried SO MANY Thai places all over Oakland County and beyond, but this one has always remained in the rotation. The food won't change your life but is good and consistent. Their crab rangoons aren't my favorite which is a bit of a bummer - however, their dumplings, curries, and pad thai make up for it. We have been here many times and overdue for a review. I don't know why So Thai isn't busier. They do a decent carry out business but we are usually one of the few people dining in. I don't know why because it's one of the better Thai places in the metro area...more authentic than most. And, I have been to MANY as a big fan of Thai food. I had my usual Tom Yum soup to start with chicken. I ordered it medium and a word of caution....their medium is pretty hot! My wife had a stir fried vegetable dish with chicken and I had drunkin noodles with shrimp which is always great. Service always quick and friendly. Arrived in Michigan after driving all day from Gettysburg PA and decided to try the takeout service at this Thai restaurant. My wife ordered the drunken noodles with pork and I ordered cashew chicken stirfry and brown sauce with veggies. When we arrived 20 minutes later the order was ready to go and reasonably priced at $26 plus tax and tip. The restaurant was pretty much deserted, but there was a lineup of about a dozen takeout orders, ready to go... Which I took as a good sign. My wife could give the drunken noodles a solid B+... They were very good... But not as good as our favorite Thai restaurant in Frederick, Maryland. (Sumittra) I had exactly the same rating for my cashew chicken veggie stirfry a solid B+. Very tasty but again not as good as our favorite thai restaurant in Frederick, Maryland. Sad to say, So Thai has gone from amazing to just a slight touch above average. Formerly outstanding in taste and presentation, dishes come out looking and tasting like any other Thai restaurant in the area the last few times. So Thai has really stood the test of time. The new location is much nicer and has a ton more room. They've never really been perfect here when it came to customer service but one thing that has remained the same is the food. Over the years I've felt the quality has stayed the same unlike many other restaurants in the area that have faced a huge decline in quality. I came in on a Saturday for lunch - my friend and I were the only party in the restaurant, but maybe COVID had something to do with it. The food and service was excellent, so I hope they are getting good business. For appetizers, we got potstickers and crab rangoon. The potstickers had thin skin that tasted homemade and pork filling that was seasoned well. The soy sauce was not too salty and it went well with the dumplings. The crab rangoon was delicious. They used fresh oil to fry them (none of that bitter flavor you sometimes taste in fried foods if they use old oil), the wonton skins were crispy, and the filling was creamy. You could actually taste crab, so it wasn't just a bunch of cream cheese filler. For my entree, I got lard na, which is rice noodles in a brown gravy with meat and vegetables. It had a lot more gravy than I'm used to (waitress did disclose it was a "broth" dish) and the gravy was on the thinner side, but it had pretty good flavor. Noodles were fresh (not dried) and had wok-seared flavor. The beef didn't taste spoiled or super old, but not quite fresh either. The dish had a generous portion of Chinese broccoli in it (would've preferred American broccoli, but I know this way is more authentic). Overall, it was a solid dish! Went there with friends who frequently enjoy this establishment. Every single dish we ordered was delicious. The place is surprisingly big, many thai restaurants tend to be on a small side. Also, i really liked that you leave the place after a meal and you don't smell like frying food all day. Service was very good, polite and attentive, but please be prepared for a longer than usual in thai places wai. I guess that may be a good sign, all food is made fresh. Our dishes were: sweet chili cashew with tofu, peanut curry, BBQ pork fried rice and pad kra tiem with chicken. Everything was piping hot and delicious. All except one was ordered as mild, and for us was a borderline spicy, so be prepared that their spice level is on the high side. Normally I order medium, but was aware earlier that at this place is better to go with mild, which was like a medium in other places. I had the sweet chili dish with tofu, which was totally amazing. First thing I noticed is plenty of tofu, sometimes you get 3 pieces and that is all. Here the dish ful of very tasty fried tofu. I liked the food so much, that I ate the entire dish (that comes with a big portion of rice). Usually I have leftovers in thai places but I just couldn't stop eating. Same decor in or outdoor, but the taste of the Thai food and plating/presentation did improve for the past 4 check-ins I had from this restaurant. Must try the Appetizer Sampler. The pot stickers, shrimp rolls and crab Rangoon are my favorite. The spring rolls needs more seasoning. The dipping sauce was very good. Tom Yum soup was served hot, and tasted sour. I still like the one made in Hot Pepper Thai (located nearby). Also, tried their new item "Green Curry Spaghetti" spicy good!!! Wished there was more noodles added to the overflowing sauce. Spice Alert: their mild is likely to be a notch higher in spice level! Be prepared to order the tea or request for more glass of water ;-) The Thai iced tea was perfectly served in a tall glass. Also, overflowing with sweetness. It was dinner rush hour when we came. The dining area was full. We expected the cooking time will be longer. With the wait! Friendly and fast servers. Easy checkout. Overall I would like to say thank you for staying open during these tough times! This is one of the few restaurants in the area that has not shuttered. I totally understand either way, it is very difficult keeping establishments open, but I am super excited a place so close to the house is able to serve the local customers! I have never been to either restaurant. This place just recently moved and my husband reports the inside looks really cool! I cannot wait to see it for myself. I look forward to going out to eat once more! As far as the food, I will start with all of the positives. I really liked that they got the spice correct. While I enjoy a good spice, I do not like when the mild is so hot it takes away from the taste of the food. Their spice was perfect. The pad thai was very tasty! The crab rangoon was crispy and flavorful. I liked the money bag shape. The skewers were done very well with delightful peanut sauce that tasted great on all of the food. The cucumber salad was cool and refreshing. Most places though come with more skewers, and this one had only four per order. The spring rolls were good, but needed a bit more flavor. We originally tried to order pineapple fried rice because their menu said it was made with curry. They were not familiar with their own menu and asked all members of the staff who claimed it was not made with curry. We even pulled up the menu to confirm the ingredients. They made us a curry fried rice instead. Don't get me wrong, the entire family really enjoyed the flavor and would order it again, but there did not seem to be any curry, and it was a bit burned. I loved the cashews a lot, but of few of those were burnt as well. The shrimp chips tasted a bit stale. Perhaps due to the current situation there is not enough turnover of product. Again, I get it. Solid choice for thai food and below average for sushi. Kickboxing chicken is a must have dish here, which never disappoints. It definitely packs a great punch. Our server was very friendly but also forgetful. I ordered the sashimi platter for dinner and it came out a good twenty minutes before everyone else's food. It turned out good since the salmon was still frozen. The sashimi was presented on a bed of chopped lettuce, not the best presentation. There was a lot of out of place chopped lettuce in several of our dishes. Had to wait ten minutes for a side of spicy mayo. I also had the Tom Ka coconut soup, which was absolutely perfect. I love the rich flavor and delicate blend of spices. My brother in law ordered the Tom Yum soup without onions. He sent it back because it had onions, and had to remind the waitress a few times to bring it back. Same problem with our tea order. The Thai iced coffee was watery. Overall everyone enjoyed most of their food but be warned the spice level is turned up here....so if you typically order medium, go with mild and if you typically order mild opt for no spice. read more

But a Thai friend recommended So Thai, so I gave them a try for lunch. The Panang Curry was very good. The staff was attentive without being obsequious and the staff teamwork was excellent.
