We just walked in like normal customers, and the employee behind the counter looked at us like we had no business being there and told us they were closed. No warmth, no basic courtesy, just flat out rude about the whole thing. We turned around and walked out. I think we may have left a comment on their social media at some point, not really expecting anything to come of it, just putting it out there. But the whole thing stuck with me because there is absolutely a way to tell someone you are closed and still be decent about it. A simple "Hey, sorry, we are actually closed right now" goes a long way. That is not a hard bar to clear. I will be real, it took some restraint on both our parts to just walk out without saying anything back. My wife and I both wanted to address it right then and there, but we knew better. Some situations are not worth escalating, and that was one of them. Still, it is a reminder that how you treat people matters, even in small moments, even at the end of a shift, even when you are ready to close up and go home. People remember that kind of thing.
