This Oakberry outpost in Astoria is a recent addition to the neighborhood. Although the store is small, the tall ceilings and white walls give the space an open, airy feel. While the Oakberry storefront is only a block away from the 30th Av (N) train station, I have noticed that a majority of people tend to order Oakberry through delivery apps. There's usually one person manning the counter and register, so a small short wait may be necessary before you order. The açaí bowls come in a cup, which I personally am not a huge fan of. I prefer the bowls for a wider opening, but I will concede that the cup shape helps create layers better if you enjoy eating your açaí bowls like a parfait. I ordered the Crunchy Bowl ($14.95) which was delicious, except for the icy bits of chia pudding that froze. PS- Chia seed pudding is made with coconut milk! Tree nut allergy friendly shop!

Ordered: Classic (12oz) Original Bowl: acai, peanut butter, granola, and banana Classic (12oz) Crunchy Bowl: acai, chia pudding, granola, strawberry, blueberry, and cacao nibs Aya's take: I've seen so many locations of Oakberry Acai and now that there's one in Astoria, I was excited to finally check it out. We stopped by for the grand opening where the first 200 people got a free acai bowl. The staff was super friendly, organized, and cranked out orders in a timely manner. The toppings on both the Original and Crunchy Bowls were nicely layered and I liked the contrast from the crunchy to the nutty to the creamy toppings. Honestly, the only thing I didn't like was the acai itself. It was a bit too sweet and artificial tasting to me, a bit tart with an underlying earthy taste. Of course these were free to us on this particular day but for ~$12 per "bowl", it does seem like a bit steep compared to other acai spots. They also had acai protein bars which I thought was interesting! Overall, it's not for me but I'm very glad I got to give it a try.

This Brazilian chain specializing in acai bowls and smoothies has finally made their way into Quuens. Oakberry Acai's newest location opened up in Astoria this past weekend in the space formerly occupied by Every Table. Along with the usual bowls and smoothies, this location also sells healthy snacks (protein balls, granola), sorbet, and healthy drinks (kombucha, wellness shots, cold pressed juices). I got their Build Your Own Acai "Bowl" (this is a misnomer as all of their acai and smoothies are served in cups). The "bowls" come in three sizes: Classic (12 oz), Works (16 oz) and The Oak (24 oz). I ordered the Works with Granola, Bananas, Strawberries, Peanuts, Almonds and Almond Butter. The acai was refreshing, slightly sweet and slightly tangy, with perfectly ripe fruits and crunchy granola and nuts. I especially liked how they layered the acai, granola and toppings in the cup. In other places, the acai is placed at the bottom and the toppings are all on top. At Oakberry's, they layer it in a way so that you get a bit of everything with each bite. Overall, I really enjoyed the acai "bowl". I just wished it wasn't so expensive. With tax and a 15% tip, my total came to $20.60, making this one of the more expensive acai bowls I've gotten in a while. I probably won't be coming here too often (it would kill my wallet) but when I need a healthy treat and am willing to splurge, I know exactly where to go to.

Ate and brought here today during my lunch break as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 234 Q. I finally got to eat and tried the crunchy acai bowls added with almond butter 'cause yesterday the machine was broken wanted to try place out for the first time so badly lol and it's working. Yay! Overall, it had tasted really good and delicious that I was also impressed with the pleasant, patient, fast, understanding and friendly service. The ambiance was super quiet and chill. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Work açaí without peanut butter and with passion fruit and strawberry.

Best açaí in the USA. It tastes like I'm back in Brazil. The service is great in this location, he was very friendly and knows about Brazilian culture haha. Nice and clean store.

Service was fine and the store was clean, but the açaí is the consistency of soup. Would not buy again especially for $15

Instead of being smoky or well-seasoned like a proper choila should be, it felt like an oil-heavy plate with minimal balance. It ended up being more greasy than flavorful. For the price, the portion and quality don't justify the cost. I expected bold, fresh spices and char-grilled flavor, but what I got was flat and oily. I actually enjoyed my homemade meal more than this takeout. A renowned establishment like Bajeko Sekuwa should honestly do better. The reputation sets a high expectation, and this dish didn't come close to meeting it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't order this again.

I used to get takeout and/or delivery from here often back when they had fried green tomatoes on the menu. Been a while since I had gotten food from here since that was my favorite item. Great happy hour specials $7 plain margaritas, beer, wine. We each enjoyed our food. One person is vegan and a couple are gluten-free. There were plenty of options for each (except they ran out of the gluten-free bread for the sandwiches, probably since they are closing for good). Bonus they participate in InKind app. I would be interested in checking out their sister restaurant in Manhattan (if there isn't a very loud crowded event at the same time there too! See below.) Cons: Service was slow even though not many tables (there was a 5K event at the same time so there were only a few tables of diners). There was a loud DJ for that running club event so we had difficulty communicating/hearing each other across the table. The 5K group also had a couple people try to steal seats at our table and people kept elbowing those of us sitting on the outside of the table.

It was also my 1st time eating vegan. I can't wait to go back! My husband & I loved the shrimp. It was so scrumptious, we could eat it everyday. I also really enjoyed the loaded broccoli. The taste, the seasoning, the sauce totally upgraded broccoli to another level of foodie euphoria. One of our favorites was the cauliflower, it had a crunch to it like no other and the sauce complimented it well. Another dish we enjoyed immensely was the zucchini scallopini, all the zucchini was gone by the time I got to it. lol that's how I know my husband and mother-in-law really enjoyed a dish! The Mac and cheese was so delicious, even I loved it. My kids loved the cheese pizza! My kids' favorite was the cereal ice cream for dessert. My daughter loved sampling the lemon blueberry cake between spoonfuls of her ice cream. Urban Vegan Roots definitely gets 2 thumbs up and my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! I would eat here everyday if I could. Definitely on my go-to list of places to go for celebrations! Unfortunately eating at Urban Vegan Roots was pretty pricey so we'll probably only come back during the holidays.

I walked onto this small storefront where they had a squeeze rubber chicken hanging upside down to grab their attention inside (which I thought was funny & ingenious). And it really did work - from personal experience. The staff member came straight away. And I got to ordering my food. I decided to order the BEEF & CHICKEN SALTENAS. The saltenas really are empanadas x soup dumplings collab. It's like they put a hearty stew inside an empanadas looking incasing. It was mostly savory, but had a slight sweet kick. The exterior is well made & crispy. The shell is quite thick that the soup doesn't really soak through and really does hold the soup inside really well. All considering, I only got a few drops of the soup coming out when I ate it for the first time. I also added the green sauce inside and it really did deliver a spicy kick. Overall, I like both options. But I do prefer the beef if I had to choose one to buy. If you don't feel like braving the cold and waiting outside in the cold like I did, I suggest you order ahead.

The first incident was 3.5 months ago when I ordered food to-go and requested extra Salsa Criolla sauce for my jackfruit sandwich....but got home and discovered NO salsa criolla sauce was given to me at all. This was extremely upsetting as this sauce COMES WITH the sandwich. Without it, it's very dry and not as tasty. Today I decided to give them another chance and ordered via Uber Eats. I included a note on my order, "SALSA CRIOLLA - plz don't forget". The food arrived 15+ minutes after the delivery window (which it's exactly their fault as it's a third party delivery service), however I was dumbfounded when once again I discovered NO salsa criolla sauce in my bag. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?! It's absolutely ridiculous that they completely left out something that COMES WITH my sandwich a second time, especially since I wrote an extra note about it. My receipt shows the phrase "salsa criolla" twice (see my photo), meaning there is no excuse for them to have forgotten it this time. This is so unfortunate, because I truly do love their food! However I can no longer trust them. Note to management: train your staff to double-check orders before sending them out. Your receipts literally list out every single component needed for an order to be complete, so there is absolutely no excuse for incomplete orders to keep being sent out like this.

In terms of aesthetics, Fuyu does it best work at night. The intimate vibe is captured well, through their soft evening lighting with date night vibes and ample seating. It's a tight squeeze with big groups, so keep it in mind since everyone will likely sit on a stool. To no one's surprise, the food remains the star. When they first started, the tonkotsu was the usual choice, but they've since graduated to other types of ramen from tsukemen to tantan mien. Their hiyashi chuka is a seasonal noodle dish and worth inquiring upon arrival. Despite it all, I'd probably end up ordering the original tonkotsu at the end of the day. Ramen is really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their extensive menu, which now serves katsu burgers in addition to their sushi burrito, fried squid, and classic selections takoyaki and gyoza. The slew of Korean dishes (such as the dupbab) still gives me a double take. Prices for a bowl of ramen are in the $16-19 range. It might feel pricey, because it is. The service makes for a big part of the experience and they have been solid. This is no destination per se, but a solid neighborhood worthy spot that deserves a look when craving slurp worthy ramen.
