I'm a 33 year old man who's wanted to skate for years without and previous experience. I decided to get a deck online and brought it in to the shop to build it. I went in being really self conscious and I'll-informed. I didn't get the sales guys name but he was awesome. He gave me a bunch of choices for everything, trucks, wheels, bearings, hardware, grip tape and didn't push anything on me. Taught me how to put it all together and answered all my questions. I ordered my new skateboard online with this shop. They were one of the few I found that I could customize a Santa Cruz board. I found the deck I wanted and used there gold customizing feature and it turned out amazing! It gave me the option of swapping out any part I wanted. Also the option of being put together and shipped at no extra price was awesome. From the day I ordered it online it was waiting at my door less than 2 weeks later. If you order something from them they will charge you almost the same as the price of the order to return it. Picked out items I was interested in online which I'm glad I did since a lot of their items are hidden in back of store. Not all things are on display. Workers were cool enough although they did seem eager to bail (close to closing time) and busy in convo with their friends so it seemed a hassle to help grab items so I can check them out in person. Suggestion: don't go close to closing hours. First few times I went they were already closed must have went home early. This was my 5th attempt and finally made it when it was open. Yay! They have some good prices compared to other skate shops if you're willing to browse through online and already know average prices on items you are seeking out. I spent way more than I expected but I will def be back again sometime soon. read more

If you're looking for a local skateshop this is not it. I got my son's skateboards here to support local shops but now I wish I just went to Tillys or Zumiez. The after sale support here is terrible. I went in to get my kids skaters tuned (tighten trucks, grease wheels, etc..) and was going to buy some pads. The guy wanted me to buy the grease and tool to do it myself. What's the point of a local shop? I give props to the owner for transitioning more to an online business and less walk ins. That being said might as well go to box store where staff are more friendly and service oriented. Let Socalskate fully transition to online sales only. read more

What a cool shop. My daughter bought her first skateboard and Mason took time to explain all the options and guided her to get dialed in with a sick custom set up. You're in good hands with SoCal Skate. The website is easy to use and you are also able to order boards, or customize them pretty easily. We opted to go into the store in order to have someone walk us through the options (wheel size/performance, trucks, and board brands) and make sure that we got the right size. We stopped by Dicks and Big 5 first but there was no comparison. Worth the drive to Mission Viejo. Spoke to the other guys working and it was great to see that they all really believed in the store, were 100% committed and super helpful to rookies and regular customers alike. read more

Not sure why these guys even list their hours since they are not accurate. This is the 3rd out of 4 times that they were closed to local retail sales during their regular "business hours". Glad I called this time instead of driving there. Also, when they actually were open for walk-ins and I was able to purchase my son's first skateboard, the sales guy put minimal effort into assisting me. Seems alright,and maybe I'll give it a second chance. Went in on a Monday at 4:00pm (I finished working my job at 3:30) and wanted to buy a helmet and pads. A person quickly greeted us, not really enthusiastically, and I went to the helmets and pads section. A young sales associate came up to me quickly and asked if I needed any help today, and I said "yeah, I think so! I just started skating so I'm looking to buy a helmet and pads." He said he'd help us but he has to help someone before us, totally understandable. There were a bit of customers coming in and out so we understood having to wait a little to get help. However, this worker behind us just kinda kept talking about how they're closing soon and how people come and not really finishing what he really wants to say about it... it kind of felt like he was hinting at us to leave as he was saying this to a customer while setting up their board. No hate to the young sales associate tho who wanted to help us, he just had to help a customer before us. Down side is that I can't tell you how many times I showed up there at 4:15-4:30pm to find the door closed when their website says they are open till 5pm. You have option of them shipping it or u can pick it up. While building my board I had questions about wheels and bearings. I called up Shreddy and he gave me some options for how I skate. This is THE shop! I live in SF but had an old sector 9 longboard from college at my parent house in BAD shape, like 2 different sets of wheels on the front vs back type-bad. Wanted to get it revamped when I was in town and bring it back up to its former glory days of cruising. Called in and they held some butterballs for me, when I walked a few days later in they like knew I was the guy who wanted em. I really like this shop! Walking in they were really friendly and seem to have a big selection of boards. My girlfriend and I were looking for penny boards and the guys here were really helpful and friendly. They got us all set up We had got everything for her board but when I went to put it together one of the bolts from the hardware were missing. I later called them and they were so friendly and told me that they would take care of it. Unfortunately we aren't from Cali so we couldn't go back there to exchange them for a new set, so they said they'd mail it to us. A couple days later we received them in the mail like promised!
