I stumbled into the store taking my 3 year old daughter to a local birthday party. My daughter had built some interest in tennis and thought it would be fun to show her around to grow the interest. The gentleman at the counter was extremely kind and helpful. I showed my daughter around a bit and the gentleman recommended a specific type of soft ball to get them started not only did he gift my daughter a set of the balls he also was kind enough to gift her a little tokkitennis teddy. As someone who not only knows nothing about tennis but also have had zero exposure in this sport I was blown away with the kindness and thoughtful gesture. I hope my daughter continues to grow interest in this sport and you can be sure I will only shop in this store. Tyler the terrific owner knows tennis. He is a coach ( for the local HS team). He has a tennis academy and also travels worldwide with students all over. He also knows racquetball. I was lucky to learn about him from my racquetball partner Rich who is a local at the LA Fitness 3 miles away. Racquetball restringing is a very unique and personalized process, with many factors such as the weight of the racquet, type of strings, whether you hit the ball at 143.5 mph or just dink and place it and tension desired. He examined my two new racquets and recommended a specific string based on my style of play and stroke. He did a fantastic job. Not only that, I just picked up the racquets less than 24 hours after I dropped them off. WOW! I love the $30 restringing price per racquet plus $10 for a new grip. This lovely one stop shop store features bags, shoes & racquets ( tennis) and is open from 10-5 Monday to Saturday. My brother in law lives in Japan and everytime he comes to town he always makes it a point to stop by SCT. For years I was impressed by the loyalty and then ended up taking my two children there to get them outfitted with shoes and a new racket at one of the big box sports stores which were out of their sizes and didn't have a lot of knowledge on the rackets. Then we remembered SCT and were blown away by the expertise and the selection of quality products at a similar price to the big guys. The difference is in the specialization of the trade, the stringing of the rackets and the knowledge. We have been out of tennis for a while and have become an avid pickleball family. We went to Tyler to learn about the equipment and were pleased to see that he had a variety of paddles available for all levels! This place may just be one of the best tennis shops in southern OC! The owner, Tyler, is super knowledgable and honest with tennis equipment and accessories. I had previously played tennis in high school but felt like I was starting from scratch to get into the sport again. I had demo'd a Babolat Pure Strike 16/19 racket and was told by a friend that South County may have the size I needed in stock. Unlike big brand stores, Tyler was extremely patient and personable with checking my grip size, recommending string selection and tension, and drawing comparisons/contrasts of the Babolat racket vs my old racket. The information made it easy to make the decision on the new racket purchase and to my surprise he was even able to string the racket on the same day of my purchase! South County Tennis is a hidden gem. Rarely have I experienced this level of customer service; this shop absolutely deserves five stars. Tyler had so much patience and walked me through what I needed to know to get started with tennis. He asked what other sports I played and recommended a racket that wouldn't need to be replaced over time as a recreational player. He also had a decent amount of shoe options, including KSwiss, Wilson, Nike, Asics and New Balance and brought out all of them for me to try on. Furthermore, Tyler's turnaround time for stringing rackets seemed pretty fast. While in the shop, a ton of customers dropped off rackets at the end of the day around 5pm and he said he'd have them available the next day. He knew the history about most of the rackets that were dropped off and some customers didn't need to remind him of the types of strings or weight needed. Tyler answered the phone when I called to ask about regripping my pickleball paddle to keep my handle at a very small 4" diameter. He was so kind & told me to come in. When I arrived he showed me how to put the new over grip on correctly (I had done it wrong) and he wouldn't take any money for the over grip or his time. I was blown away at his generosity. This is the second time I got my racquet restrung. Both times my racquet was ready the next day. When I picked up my racquet, they mentioned my grip was trashed and they asked me if they could put a new wrap on it. They did it free of charge even though I offered to pay for it. What an incredible hidden gem nestled in the very back of a bustling Laguna Hills plaza! I've been bugging my boyfriend to teach me to play tennis for years now and he finally decided to get back into it after an extensive amount of time. With that being said, his rackets were almost 10 years old and the grips were practically disintegrating in my hands. We stumbled upon Tyler's shop and as a newbie, I was shocked by all the different options that came with stringing and gripping a racket. I had no idea there were so many different aspects. However I didn't feel overwhelmed at all because Tyler was so incredibly knowledgeable about the topic. He was personable and friendly. He gave his honest recommendations based on the player's needs and not just what would make him the most money. I respect that so much. I've been going to Tyler for about 13 years now for all of my tennis needs, and he's always been incredible helpful in making sure I get all of the right things I needed. Finally came in to his new shop and like usual he took care of us. My girlfriend and I picked up Pickleball recently (I'm an injured tennis player so this is how I get my fix lol) so we needed some new shoes for her. Tyler showed her a couple of options, and based on her feedback he narrowed it down to the perfect pair for her. She's got 20 hours in the shoes so far and they've been awesome. If you have any questions on gear, classes, coaching, etc. he's got the information to help you out. Aside from the knowledge that the staff has, Tyler has all of the latest gear for tennis and pickleball. Due to inventory he has on hand, my group of friends have come here for demos on racquets when they want to evolve their game or replace an old racquet. Tyler and staff will help you pick out a new racquet and strings based on your current game and feedback (how to change your game or playstyle or diff strings to ease some pain during your swing). Biggest take away from this location is the interaction you'll have with Tyler and his staff.
