Matcha Einspanner, Einspanner - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

Pretty solid coffee spot near Pike Place! I went here after seeing a really good Uber Eats deal of spend $20 or more, get $15 discount, effectively making 3 drinks to cost around $6! Even without the discount (no upcharges online), $7 for regular Einspanner and $8 for a matcha Einspanner is good, given it is 16 oz and is fairly substantial. My rating is based on regular pricing. The Einspanners have a good amount of cream which makes it fairly hearty, with the regular one a coffee based one which I actually like more than the matcha. Matcha one is decent but the matcha quality is just okay. The creaminess makes the drink quite delicious. Plus, the presentation is pretty good.

Stopped by Social Grounds and tried the Matcha Einspanner -- and wow, it was delicious. The rich, slightly bitter matcha was perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the cream topping. The ambiance is really nice -- cozy, clean, and stylish without feeling overdone. It's the kind of place you'd want to sit and relax in, whether you're catching up on work or meeting a friend. That said, I was a little surprised at how quiet it was during my visit. Not many customers around, which is a shame because this spot deserves more love! Hopefully more people discover it soon, because it's definitely a gem.

Iced Ube latte; it was so-so. Probably better hot.

I'd like to give more of a 3.5 because the decor is fine, there's lots of comfy seating, and it seems like it'd be a great place to have a drink and hangout. My concerns were the taste of my drink and the service. Tried the iced ube latte and it really wasn't very enjoyable. The ube taste is there, but it didn't have much going for it. I'm guessing that it probably is better hot, but I expected more and it wasn't very sweet, which surprised me because it's ube - usually sweeter in my experience. Another person in my group tried the iced strawberry matcha latte and THIS one was very good! Wish I had ordered that one. The place is cute and cozy, but there were several used plates and cups around so we had to work a little to find a more open spot. There was only the one lady, so perhaps she was understaffed today? But we were the only customers for a while so I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps she was also having a rough day because she wasn't very friendly. She wasn't rude - just didn't seem too thrilled to have us there. Again, perhaps it was a rough day so far. I'd be willing to give this place another shot when in Seattle again. There are also other things to try, so maybe it'll be a better experience.

Social Grounds is a cozy new coffee shop right by Pike Place! They have an extensive menu with deliciously curated coffee and matcha drinks that are to die for. The caramel cream top and the matcha were my favorites, but honestly, every drink was amazing. Plenty of seating and super friendly baristas, definitely worth a stop!

We tried the hazelnut and salted caramel latte! Service was quick and decent. Good for a quick on the go! There's lots of space to sit or study as well!

I am so glad I stopped by here for matcha. The place has such a calming vibe to it and there's plenty of seating. The barista was very nice and explained what an einspaner is which I got a matcha of, absolutely delicious! My husband enjoyed his caramel macchiato as well. Highly recommend!

I happen to notice signage diagonal from where I had parked on 1st Avenue. I decided to stop in after one of two stops at Pike Place Market (1/23/25). Very nice interior with various seating configurations. The barista at the main counter was very upbeat and pleasant. Turns out this was a former Armistice Coffee. Social Grounds has been open since November 2024. I decided to sit at the counter facing the sidewalk and take in abundant sunshine, while nibbling on a heated savory scone from Macrina and sipping on a well crafted 16oz mocha. Perfect temperature and balance with the chocolate, steamed milk, and espresso. Coffee beans are from Sleepy Monk in Cannon Beach, OR. Coincidentally, I enjoyed this roaster back in August 2024 while visiting the Oregon Coast. I was onsite on a Thursday late morning, pretty much had the cafe to myself. Perhaps it's much more crowded at other times with downtown workers and tourists? It was a nice detour and good to find decent coffee & baked goods at an indie spot close to Pike Place Market.

Best einspaner i've had in a while! I got the matcha einspaner, strawberry matcha einspaner and einspaner black. The matcha einspaner was my favorite. The cream they add is super creamy not too sweet but also whatever matcha they use its not bitter and it has more creamy sweet notes than earthy umami. Strawberry matcha was delicious but once it was all mixed it was a bit sweet for me but ill get it less sweet next time! Strawberry flavor was delicious tho. Plenty of seating and a table that sits up to seven people. Bar seating available for those that come alone! They have pastries from Macrina bakery and muffins from Boulangerie bakery in Bellevue. We tried the strawberry muffin, almond pinwheel and everything but bagel with cream cheese! Strawberry muffin was a super soft pound cake in muffin form parking was a bit hard to find but if your in the area definitely stop by!!!

    Iced lavender honey latte

Pretty overpriced. Mid coffee for price unfortunately. Most likely would not come back

The restaurant itself leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm not asking too much. I believe the owner said he was trying to revamp the place. I hope that the area comes alive in the future years, that should help. Here's the issue though, this is the slowest spot ever. I've waited 30 minutes for fries - FRIES. I don't mind waiting for food, but it should remain reasonable. There were only two or three people working, and one man did tell us this, but I need to be honest - this was on Super Bowl Sunday. No one was able to get anyone a beer from the tap for 40 minutes, the food took forever and it appeared that online orders were being prioritized (which makes sense, you make as you get orders coming in, but that puts your in person customers in an odd and sometimes frustrating position). To be honest, I probably wouldn't have minded as much if I just had some fries to snack on. I didn't mind as much this one time because I was just happy to find a place to watch the Super Bowl Half Time show, but other days, it's a little hard to look past. I wish this business the best, I live too close to not hope for its improvement! Looking forward to updating my review. At the end of the day, if you're hungry, it's late, this is your spot.

He said, "No, you got the sandwich." I said, "Okay... so did you make the sandwich I ordered or not?" He said yes. I open it up and it's literally two chicken fingers, fries, and honey mustard. No Philly cheesesteak. So I asked, "If you didn't have Philly cheesesteak, why didn't you tell me that when I ordered it?" He said, "I don't know, I can put it on the side if you'd like." I said, "I thought you didn't have any Philly cheesesteak?" He walked away, came back with a side of Philly cheesesteak, and told me to put it on the sandwich myself. For $19, I shouldn't have to assemble my own sandwich -- especially after being told you didn't even have the main ingredient. Just be upfront with customers.

The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Overall, Old Stove Brewing is the perfect combo of good location, good food, and good beer. Definitely recommend a visit when in the Pike Place area!

I didn't expect much out of these, but they were surprisingly good. The rice is cooked perfectly, sticky and tender, yet each grain is distinctive and almost bouncy, giving great mouthfeel. The musubi seems to be dipped in a small amount of soy sauce, although not enough to cover the entire rice surface. The additional sodium isn't really needed in the first place due to the salty and meaty kick the spam on top gives the handheld snack. It's a classic combination for a good reason! (4/5) For the Food Walk special, they only give a small scoop of mac salad. I'm sure the normal side portion for $5.94 is much larger. The salad is unspectacular but solid. It's a little sweet, a bit peppery, and certainly very creamy. There's a bit of julienned carrot included that isn't particularly crunchy, being soaked in the mayo sauce. The macaroni itself isn't mushy or overcooked, so it still has some texture. (4/5) I don't usually expect much out of food court restaurants, but Aloha Plates definitely surprised me with their quality. It seems like a solid option for Hawaiian.

Perhaps the Lao Burger served there wasn't as juicy and succulent, with perfectly crisp smashed patties as I recalled? Or perhaps Taurus Ox just serves a completely inferior version. I revisited for a Friday late dinner to reach the bottom of things. This was at around 8PM and the place was surprisingly busy, with a fully running kitchen and almost all seats taken. It's a pretty small restaurant to begin with, but since the food comes fast, people don't typically stay too long. By the time our food arrived, a table had cleared up for us. Lao Burger ($18) - This Lao Burger is just as good as my first visit. Absolutely perfectly fried smash patties, completely with lacy, crispy edges that provide texture and an intense caramelized meaty flavor. I've already described the burger in detail in my previous review - what I can say on this visit is that the burger is basically identical, indicating that Ox Burger is consistent with cook and construction. The burger as a whole has the perfect moisture level with plenty of unique funky, umami-full flavors that make each bite a delight. As with my previous review, two things come to mind that detract just a tiny bit from my full enjoyment. Firstly, the burger as a whole is a bit salty for my tastes, necessitating several trips to refill my cup of water Secondly, the piece of sliced pork belly included is kind of vestigial. It seems to be only there to add additional salt, because neither the flavor nor texture are very apparent while eating. (5/5) Deluxe ($15) - This burger is somehow way messier than the Lao to eat. Upon lifting it up, a mess of watery mustard/mayo mix drips onto the plate. I think it might be from the extra moisture in the tomatoes and lettuce. And yet, somehow the bun isn't soggy at all. This burger is otherwise excellent, combing the same picture perfect smash patties as in the Lao, with the classic fixings - American cheese, bacon, pickles, and plenty of veggie mix. (5/5) I'm glad I gave the Lao Burger another chance. It's now one of my favorite burgers in the city. I'll definitely be coming back to Ox Burger for more. The food was great for all adults involved. Portions of fries are generous and delicious, and come with fancy sauces (none of which appealed to me, but were appreciated by my family). The burgers are really inventive, so we all wanted to try the Lao. It's delicious. I did balk at $18 for just the burger, which is a smash patty (less beef) and I took the cheese, Mayo, and cilantro off. Eighteen dollars! No side, no drink.
