Cafe An'Clair is not a standout in any way, but it's still good and has some great coffee and pastry offerings. Of all the coffee shops I visited in Seattle, this one was not very memorable. The coolest part was the view of the Space Needle from the small outdoor seating area. Outdoor seating is always a win! The coffee was ok. The espresso shot was fine, a bit bitter. Certainly not the smoothest I tried. The pastry and breakfast selection was ok. The service was unremarkable. Not great, not bad. In a city with so many coffee options, I think you really have to do something special to stand out, and Cafe An'Clair missed the mark for me. The staff were helpful and told us that one of their most popular items was the financier. The bun was sweet but a little dry and flakier than I thought it would be since it was a brioche bun. Yuzu Financier - They mentioned their most popular was the honey financier but I thought the yuzu flavor sounded interesting. The quality was nice, soft inside and light crust layer outside. It was sweet, mildly sour and had a light almond flavor. What stood out about this place was the pricing of their items, 6 dollars for a breakfast sandwich and 1.75 for the financier. An Einspanner has layers: milk, coffee, flavored heavy cream, sometimes whipping cream. There was too much water added as well. The drink lacked coffee and Einspanner flavor. Tried the Spanish latte (who can complain about condensed milk and cinnamon?), einspanner (americano with cold whipped cream), and sausage egg cheese sandwich on brioche. All of it was great! Went on a Friday morning and though it was slightly busy, there was sufficient staff to keep the line moving and we were in and out within 10 min. The vibe is nice, but a little noisy inside. To celebrate a Friday, decided to mix up the schedule and grab some baked goods here for the first time. It was probably around 10ish, and there was not a huge rush. A worker immediately came to help us, but we requested a bit more time which she happily gave us time. Ended up ordering two baked goods which, for this area, a pretty good price! The financier was really good, could really taste the honey. My coworker got a coffee one too which he enjoyed but said the flavor was milder. I also got an everything scone, which was definitely good, basically an everything biscuit with some cream cheese atop, so I'd definitely try other savory scones (or their sweet ones again!) One of my coworkers also ordered a breakfast sandwich, which took a surprisingly long time to come out. So we sat and waited while the sandwich was being prepped. Cafe An'Clair is one of the, if not, the best cafés in Seattle! I highly recommend it to anybody visiting. Can't think of many negatives, only just the days that they're open. Otherwise I would go much more often. To start, the staff are extremely sweet and friendly. The tone when they greet you and speak just put you in a good mood and wanting to order and interact. Of course, what's a good café without their offerings? Good balance of food with coffee/drinks, pastries, and savory options! My go to is the Spanish latté, either iced or hot (usually half sweet but sometimes full sweetness is a nice dessert!). I've also enjoyed their An'Clair cold brew as well. As far as savory, the bulgogi sandwich is to die for, haha. It feels like a balanced meal, as the sandwich is hefty and has a good variety of toppings on it! I ordered the cafe an'Clair cold brew which is a cold brew with maple syrup and choice of milk. It was decent but not anything I could have just made at home. It appears most people came in and ordered a Spanish latte so if I'm in the area again then I will have to try that out instead. Everyone working there was so kind and numerous locals that they knew by name would flow in as well which I think is lovely for a local coffee shop community. The cafe is more suited for a quick grab and go for coffee and breakfast. The chairs weren't the most comfortable nor was the space the most conducive for studying or working as the WiFi was not working well for me. The sweetness can be controlled in this drink, but I like my drinks on the sweeter side so I didn't make any adjustments. It comes with a cinnamon stick on top which I thought was cute. It's a small, quiet coffee shop with a very small breakfast and lunch menu and a few pastries and tea cakes. I got the brownie financier. I'm not sure what a financier is supposed to taste like but this one was good. it was light and cake-like. The bulgogi sandwich was also light and tasty. The jury is still out on whether bulgogi is supposed to be on bread with cheese and such. My wife would say "no." Whatever the answer is, I think this sandwich would have benefited from the crunch of kimchi instead of sriracha sauce. This one was definitely neater and easier to eat than the one I got at that pacific island spot down on 6th Ave. I can't get used to Seattle prices. So you can decide on the value for the meal. First off, amazing matcha latte. High quality matcha powder used making the latte very smooth and earthy. I was really looking forward to trying the financiers here; I got the brownie and matcha ones (the yuzu one was sold out at the time, womp womp) and they didn't have the bold respective flavor as I'd hoped. An adorable little coffee shop, we stopped into Cafe An'Clair on a rainy morning. We appreciated that while they are not allowing guests to dine inside during the 'VID times, they set up an outdoor heated tent situation where we could hang out for a little bit. I had a spanish latte (half sweetness) and two financiers: honey and yuzu. The dude had a drip coffee and the granola, as it was one of the few gluten free options on the menu. My latte was great, and I loved that it was something different from the thousands of other coffee shops around. I'm definitely glad that I got it half sweet--and that my barista asked me what level of sweetness I wanted--because I typically am not huge on a super sweet drink, and I found the 50% to be perfect. I was eh on the honey financier, but really enjoyed the yuzu that had actual little pieces of citrus peel in it. They were great for a small little snack. The boyf said his drip was a perfectly fine drip coffee, but nothing to write home about. He liked his granola too, but did say it was mostly pepitas. Love this location, love the other one. Both have very pleasant public seating areas, and this one also has a dedicated tented area for customers. I love sitting outside near the peaceful waterfall to enjoy my coffee. They have an amazing spicy chai here, which I've been getting iced, with almond milk and two shots of espresso. The chai has a great kick to it that I crave. I also love their turkey, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich...they carve the turkey fresh each morning and use Macrina for the bread! The egg tastes fresh also, not like it's been sitting in a fridge or freezer for hours. This location also has plants for sale and the ones I saw looked very healthy--they also have lots of avocado plants that seem to be in the process of growing. OVERALL: 9.4/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4.7/5). This is one of the shortlist of places I will always visit, whenever I'm in the area, because (a) I know they're finally open again, and (b) there's very few people (if any) going to the office these days, so it's VERY hard on cafes and restaurants to generate regular business like they used to. Even with phase 2 controls in these COVID-19 times, it's SUPER hard to have a unique value prop.... that's why I'm super glad this place is still open for business. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 9/10. Cafe an Clair has tons of options for drinks - you're bound to find something that catches your fancy. Given the wide range of tastes, you'll also most likely find a pastry or a food item of some kind that you would be interested in trying -- so why not indulge yourself? :) 2) FRESHNESS: 10/10. They make the specialty drinks (think chai or matcha latte) as they're ordered, so you're not going to get stale product by any means. They also heat the sandwich options when you order, so it's not like you're going to be getting a stale product that was originally heated hours ago. 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 8/10. This is the only area I feel like this place is lacking. A "large" (16oz) drink is $5-6, which isn't terrible, but in the context of comparing it to other similar-sized cafes (let's not throw Starbucks into this mix, for example), it's slightly more expensive than those ones. I get the crunch, and I get the single location, but given that this is the only nitpick I have, I feel like this shouldn't scare most people off. 4) SERVICE: 10/10. At this point I feel like I'm a regular - they seem to know my order back-to-front, even down to the sweetness level (if you're wondering, it's a matcha latte, either hot or cold depending on the season, half-sweet, less ice). Sometimes I might also throw in a breakfast sandwich, but I'm a pretty loyal customer to this place. They're fast, they're awesome, and I do my best to make sure they know I appreciate them! 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 10/10. At this point in time, the reason I keep going back is because the experience is consistently good. A very comforting experience. All baristas were nice with the service being fast. I like a bunch of things but I'd have to say the Iced London Fog and the Bulgogi Sandwich are a must try. The London Fog had the right amount of sweetness. It was balanced. It's actually the best one I tried yet. Their Bulgogi Sandwich is savory and definitely on the heavier side. My partner and I split it in half and it filled us both. It was sweet but not too sweet. It also had some veggies in it to balance it out. Overall a very yummy sandwich. I actually miss it lol (I don't live in Seattle) The Yuzu Financier is quite pleasing. It was a bit tart yet sweet? It was a good note to land on after eating something so heavy. Their Caprese Sandwich was pretty normal, to me. I thought it could've had a bit more balsamic vinegar but everything just seemed to blend as just one. For my partner.. He loved it. If anything the Bulgogi and this one are pretty tied. Now their Turkey Sandwich.. Both my partner and I enjoyed it. It was also sweet but a savory sweet. It was definitely the most balanced out of the three. This one was my second favorite. I could've ate it all by myself. We also got their avocado toast. If you like lemon on your avocado.. you will really like this one. I enjoyed it a lot because I like citrus/sour things. My partner liked it but he said there was too much lemon on it. We got eggs on it but our mistake was not specifying for it to be over easy so we didn't enjoy the eggs. As for the last item.. We enjoyed an Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk. It was a decent cup of Matcha. Not bitter even though we didn't get it with any sweetness. Overall experience? I love this cafe and I wish it was here in LA instead. They have the best matcha latte in SLU, in my opinion, and have every non-dairy milk option you could want (my fave is hemp). I asked what the yuzo financier was and I was told it's some kind of asian citrus flavor. I spent $22 total for everything which to me is pretty reasonable. Overall experience was pretty mediocre. They were very fast with their service which I appreciated. I wonder if I could ask for any style of egg because I forgot to do that and ended up with kind of like a sunny side up style egg in my sandwich (I prefer scrambled). I finally checked off their honey Financier and bulgogi Toast from my list yesterday! The honey Financier was okay - a little bit too sweet and greasy for me. I liked the crispy shell texture on the top and the inside was too cakey (soft mushy-ish) for me. I prefer the Yuzu flavor. The Bulgogi Toast was pretty good! They cut it in half so it was easier to eat. The bulgogi beef on top was delicious. I do wish I knew there was sriracha added so I could ask for no sriracha version. Don't get me wrong - I love sriracha, but its flavor was so strong and sour that it degraded the flavor of the bulgogi beef IMO. The toast they used was Giuseppe bread, great texture. Overall a good light lunch toast. I'd say $8.5 after tax is a bit overpriced though, either given the amount of beef you get or considering it as a light (half) lunch. Maybe I just eat too much. Last time I wrote a review for their oat milk latte but it got overridden by my review the next day... I'll append it here: Good overpriced oat milk latte. I paid $5 after tax for an 8oz latte. The interior of this place does have minimal seating, so its great for a quick coffee break, or to catch up with a friend. Tried the kale salad here for lunch and thought it was pretty good. It was very simple, just kale, almonds, cranberry and cheese and a pesto dressing. No gimmicks or unnecessary toppings or sides. The ingredients were fresh and high quality and of good portion. Even though it was a to go order, the service was just as great. The girls there are super nice and very polite and give really good recommendations. I also love their pastry display and even got to try a sample and it was delicious. They were good..not bad at all..but nothing stood out too much that I would beg to come back to get the same thing again though. What I like, however, is the small size of the cubes..so you don't feel too full or can just try as many flavors as you like. Overall, service is polite, helpful and kind.
