This visit to Society was not so much the move... while this place is very nicely decorated (and we love a free pop-up bar), that was really the only positive part of the experience. To be fair, the Christmas Morning Cocoa was a super creamy drink, with an added touch of toasted marshallows to make it super festive. But the Garlic Parmesan Wings were some of the worst wings I've ever had - the wings were over fried and the meat was tough and hard. The garlic parmesan seasoning left much to be desired and was kinda grainy. The fries were fine. But for $16, this meal was a letdown. And the cherry on top was our server - who just didn't have a great attitude the whole time. Not outright rude or anything, but felt very judgmental and bad vibes that put a damper on the night. Very cute hipster-y place near the popular part of Kansas City. Walking distance to all the known restaurants, so that's how I'll describe the area. Tucked off a small street, with limited parking, but lots of space inside. The bar area is excellent and the drinks were ok, a little watered down, but not bad. The food was just ok. My experience is based upon ordering gift cards. I ordered 2 gift cards online with a confirmation that stated I will receive gift cards in 3-5days in the mail. 15 days later I have not received any gift cards in the mail. I messaged via IG to see if anyone knew when I would receive the gift cards and if I could get a tracking numbers. No one could say if they were ever shipped. After back and forth for 3 days I ended up just going down to pick up the gift cards. They offered no compensation for my time and trouble. My first time here for the Super Bowl. I thought the crowd was electric and fun, the service is great. The bartender, Max (I'm bad with names) is awesome. He was attentive and has a heavy pour. So we had our date night at Society for their Christmas Pop Up Bar! It was soo cute & we had such a blast! The decor was everything.. I love Christmas, so it made my heart smile! The music was great.. they had a Dj/live Band there yesterday as well which was great! The drinks were delicious. I had the Santas Sugar Cookie Martini & I loved it. I'm giving this place three stars for a few reasons. 1. Parking is a challenge in this area. Very limited street parking. Good luck the other was the service. We waited forever to get waters, drinks, order our food, get our food. It didn't seem that busy so surprised for a Sunday it was so slooow. Hard pass. I went here to celebrate a friend's birthday and neither of us had been before. I thought with the strict dress code and emphasis on making reservations that it would be this bustling high class establishment. It just isn't. It's this restaurant/bar/club in kc that is cosplaying as a New York City elite nightclub. It was half empty when we arrived at 7:30 and after coming from a cocktail bar (swordfish toms) the drinks were just so below average. They were fine but not worth the price. We ordered dinner and the risotto is not risotto - and the chicken sandwich seemed as if it had been previously frozen and then flash fried. Just not my expectation for the space. If you want to dance maybe this is the place for you? Come late and maybe you will have fun. read more

I would give this place a 7 out of 10, they are known for their night club, so I was a bit hesitant to eat there but they get the job done. I was there for the 50 years of hip hop brunch and it wasn't very busy. The hostess was very mean and stern and didn't make me feel welcome, but the waitress was very nice. She answered all my questions, had my food come out quick and checked on me often. Their brunch menu isn't very extensive, which I would assume since this place is known for their night club, food isn't something they focus on. They have a stuffed French toast or an original French toast and I decided to go with the original since I am lactose intolerant. Just the French toast alone was 8/9 dollars, I ended up adding sausage which was another $3 and seasoned potatoes which was the same. I also got one of the featured drinks on the themed menu that day for the "50 years of hip hop brunch" which was the Denzel Washington Espresso Martini I believe that drink was $15 so in total my brunch was $33, $40 with tip The food wasn't bad, but is a nice looking trendy place, great for instagramable moments. This place is awesome! I came back to back on weeknights last week. My first visit was just to check the spot out and try drinks and dessert with a friend. I was so impressed, I came back the next day with my husband to try the food! The ambiance is super cool here. Artsy, upscale décor, spacious, and good energy. It was pretty chill since it was during the week, but I hear weekends get pretty busy. The drinks are finely crafted and pretty tasty. The molten chocolate cake I tried for dessert is perfectly moist, rich, and not overwhelming to the palette. For dinner, we decided to start off with the Crossroads roll as an app. I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken and my husband got the Burger. The Crossroads roll was out of this world! Such a unique combination of flavors but a great tribute to sushi meets American fusion. By far our favorite thing we had. I enjoyed the chicken, but the sauce was a little overpowering - I'd probably order it on the side next time. It was served with mashed potatoes and veggies which were both delicious. Hubby said his burger was okay, but the truffle fries that came with it were stellar. I stole several and even ate them as leftovers the next day they were so good. Two entrees, an app, and 1 drink ran us ~$70 which did catch us a bit by surprise. Overall, my experiences were pretty solid and I'm glad this place has opened. Eight of us went for dinner tonight. They still have Christmas decorations everywhere.Our server was friendly but the service was horrible. We got our waters before we ordered but then had to wait about 20 minutes to place our orders. Decided to order cocktails and dinner. Salads came out 25 minutes later, before the cocktails.... When the server finally came back we asked about the cocktails she was surprised no one had brought them. Apparently they had been sitting on the bar for at least 25 minutes and were watered down. Entrees came out about 20 minutes later...we never saw our server at all during this time. 30 minutes later she stopped by to say desserts would be out soon and that one of the desserts chosen was no longer available. We asked for to go boxes and our checks It was another 20 minutes plus before the desserts came out and one order was wrong but we took it anyway. Another 15 min to get the checks and 15 to get our cards back. Food was just okay. The restaurant was never full. No idea why service was so poor. Don't waste your time or your money. We had a group of 9 come for happy hour. It's wasn't super busy and the service was so slow. Roxanne took 20 minutes to bring a round of drinks. I have been both for brunch on Sundays and for going out for birthdays. I will give my reviews for both situations. Brunch: We went on a Sunday which was nice because they had live music playing. I think people don't realize they have brunch because It wasn't too busy but also It had just rained so no one was enjoying the huge patio space outside. Our server was super nice. We ordered drinks which came quickly then split a bunch of stuff. The omelet was good and the potatoes were crispy which is always a must. The eggs Benedict my boyfriend ordered he really enjoyed! We split one of the French toasts which was really good and not too sweet. Each entree was big! I didn't finish all my food. This would be a great place to go for boozy brunch and fun with a group of friends because they have the table space for big groups. Club: I am happy KC is getting more clubs because we desperately need them. Society is a good addition. The line is always super long to get in and the Djs are pretty good. I came to this place on a Thursday evening for happy hour. They had a pretty good deal off tequila so, naturally, I started with a margarita. It was pretty good. I ordered the crossroads roll and kept my meal light. It was simple but really tasty. I didn't have to ask for spicy mayo or eel sauce, they already provided it with the dish. It was a friend's birthday and we had dinner before doing some dancing on the other side of the restaurant. I wasn't sure what I was going to order after reading some of the other reviews. Some of my friends arrived first so they had already ordered and I got to sample their food before putting in my order. The tator tots and jumbo shrimp were good and definitely had a nice kick to them! The calamari was nice and crispy but flavor was pretty basic. The bruschetta was just ok. I probably would have liked it more with tomatoes instead of the bell pepper. I didn't think the balsamic glaze had much flavor either. There were 4 people who ordered ribeyes and that ended up being the least favorite item ordered. Most of the steaks came out more cooked than what was ordered. The waiter offered to get new ones but everyone declined and begrudgingly ate their flavorless steaks. The scallops were flavored and seared well but the risotto was really overcooked and mushy. The flavor was pretty good but I personally wasn't a fan of the texture. I ended up ordering the burger and it was really good! The onion marmalade, bone marrow butter and onion straws really made the burger. The fries that came with the burger were good but I think they gave me seasoned fries instead of truffle fries. If that really was supposed to be truffle fries, I would recommend changing their truffle flavoring or just changing the name to just be "fries"! Otherwise, people will be disappointed by what they are receiving. The music later that night was so good! They played some great mixes of some throwback hits! I'm glad we came early for dinner because I probably would not have wanted to wait in line and pay a $10 entry fee to drink some overpriced basic drinks. I was pretty surprised that they had a few tables with bottle service. The place had more bar vibes than clubby vibes so I'm not sure how they can justify the drink prices. I visited Society for brunch on a Sunday morning, and I had a great first time experience. I will say I was a bit annoyed initially because we were seated at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. ( As you can see from the pictures, there was PLENTY of open seating and it was like that the whole time I was there.) I started off with a cold Paddywhack and I loved every sip of it. The Paddwhack had peanut butter whiskey, stout, coffee, and cinnamon cereal-infused cream. O baby! What a smooth combination for the tastebuds. I'm not a whiskey person, but I had a tough time not killing my drink in a few sips. I selected The Jacobson Burger and a side of Brussel sprouts for my meal. The burger was pretty good, but it was a bit dry tasting, and I felt like it needed sauce on it. There was a delicious onion marmalade included, but it just wasn't enough. The sprouts were absolute perfection, and I loved the bits of goat cheese sprinkled throughout the dish. I decided on a seasonal cocktail as my second drink and I thought it was mixed well, and full of bubbly flavor. Our waitress was very kind and gave some great recommendations for food and drink. After being asked and forced to be separated from my loved ones and onto the street I was being used as free advertising for Kansas City by a backwards penniless law crew. I had to become a "walker." However, I found Society. I found a way to find things to do and studied people and perspectives. My senses stimulated by entering the brick and mortar activated me to tune into the musician, WHY? And listened to , "The Letters, Etc." The pairing matches the tempo--allowing you to feel like "you arrived--deep sigh." As I walk through the door of Society I saw writings on the wall and letters repeating like a python language of repeats to find a place to sit and relax. Ignore the camel case and know pascals are watching. The evidence shows true when you look up and see the multi-colored diverse lighting strung throughout the dining area. The patio was inviting and allows breaths between conversing. I enjoyed a strawberry pecan salad generously speckled with clean spinach, strawberries, red onion, candied pecans, feta, and bacon. Had a terrible experience here- Steak was undercooked and essentially raw when I had asked it to be medium. When we asked to have them re-make one the "manager" stepped out with an unwarranted attitude asking what the problem was with the food. We proceeded to show him the almost raw $43 ribeye and he argues with the entire table that it's cooked correctly. I would not have had any problem with this place if they had simply apologized for the inconvenience and offered to re-make it (I would've still paid for it). However, the manager was rolling his eyes, being extremely argumentative and rude. I have NEVER been treated so poorly by restaurant staff. There was no "customer service" and the refund was not offered, I had to ask for it (which was granted, but again I had to request it, it wasn't offered as stated in their response). I left the same review on google and they had about 5-6 people spam their google review page with 5 star reviews all at the same exact time to combat the 1 star reviews we left (2 people had the same last name). All of this to say that this review is based on how not only 1, but 6 different people were treated. Many of the previous 1 star reviews look to be based on the negative attitudes of waiting staff as well. A place that has it all! I've been here many times with friends, and I've always had a blast. Let's start with the food: they have so many options! My favourite is definitely the Tater Tots as they are HUGE and filled with pepper Jack cheese, which in my opinion is the best way to start any evening. I also love that they never charge for mocktails, and that the bartender always makes something. As someone who doesn't drink, this helps me feel a bit included, and I love that they encourage designated drivers to stay sober this way. The best part is that you don't have to leave at all - after dinner, you can easily stay to mingle and dance! The music is a bit of a throwback, which is perfect for us late-20s to early-30s crowd. It's probably one of the only bars I go nowadays where I actually recognise the majority of the songs. I absolutely adore this place and will be back! read more

We went here on First Friday's a couple weeks ago with some friends. We did not have a reservation and upon entry we were advised that open seating was at the bar and on the patio. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside. The vibe of the outside was much different than the inside, but it was beautiful! We got the Ahi Tuna Nachos which were delicious. It was a great portion for two people. Drinks are a bit expensive but with the setting the prices were expected. Service was good - once the waiter saw us sitting out on the patio. My only recommendation would be to make sure someone seats you so that you can get your order in a little quicker! Dress code said "dressy casual" but there was definitely a variety of outfits. Came here for happy hour last week and had a good time. I had a Blantons Old Fashioned and it was exceptional.
