4.5 stars We had tried several Thai restaurants in Bergen and Rockland county and had continually been disappointed. However, that changed with our discovery of SOD. First off, the staff was extremely nice, both on the phone while placing our order and during our seamless pickup. Though we took the food to-go, their dining room was certainly cozy and comfortable enough for dining in on another occasion. When we got home and unpacked the food, we saw that the portions were generous and that everything was well-packed. We started by sharing the unique, Handmade Thai Crepe Dumplings. The beautiful dark purple noodle wraps had been stuffed with peanuts and turnips, a spectacular flavor combination covering salty, nutty, and sweet profiles. I then had my Tom-Yum Soup, which had been served in a quart container that was about 2/3 full, so a bit more than a pint. The spicy, sour lemongrass broth was packed with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, lemongrass, Kaffir lime leaves, and tender white meat chicken, which we had asked to be added. The soup had been prepared with a medium spice level that was ideal for the dish. However, the restaurant was not shy with their spices on the main courses! I went with my standard Pad Se-Ew with Chicken, for which I do not typically specify a heat level. However, the restaurant's menu mentioned that spice could be added between mild and extra hot. I asked for medium, but it was definitely more fiery than I had expected! However, the noodles were delicate and the Chinese broccoli was fresh and crisp. My mouth might have been a bit numb, but I could still tell that the dish was tasty! Everyone else loved their individual plates, though we all took note that we should be more careful with our requested spice levels going forward. In addition to our own meals, we shared an order of the Garlic Noodles with Chicken, since it was an unusual dish for a Thai restaurant. It contained sautéed, flat rice noodles with egg, bean sprouts, scallions, garlic, sesame oil, and tender chicken. A mild heat level was perfect for this, as the lack of fire allowed the robust sesame and garlic notes to make an impact. Each piece of chicken was lean, moist, and tender. SOD Thai really exceeded my expectations and was definitely a local gem that we would order from again! read more

Who would have thought that some of the best Thai Food I've had in my life would be in a random strip mall in the middle of Southern NY state, borderline with New Jersey. Homey, family run, authentic eatery that brings in the hospitality of the Land Of Smiles. I was there for dinner recently for a family event and we ordered 7 entrees and some appetizers and had it family style. Most notable dishes were the Chive Pancake appetizers - light and fluffy, crusty on the outside with a tangy tamarind sauce to accompany. For the main entrees: the Shriracha Fried Rice was outstanding. Well balanced and tangy with just enough heat and crunch. The Pad See Noodles and Garlic Noodles were both heavenly. You could taste that the rice noodles were made fresh, each day. You won't want to miss the Tamarind Shrimp either. A most unique dish. The other remarkable dishes was the Green Curry with papaya and bamboo shoots. Simply divine. For each entree, you decide what kind of protein you'd like or go vegan. Reasonably priced with attentive and friendly service. Don't let the strip mall vibes put you off. Park the car, pull up a chair and get ready to feast. You won't be disappointed. read more

I came to sod Thai for dinner with my friend and we ordered the peanut dumplings, veggie appetizer platter, mock duck green curry. And pad khee mao with tofu. The platter was okay not very flavorful. The pad khee mao was excellent and the green curry was not good nor bad but lacked the depth we were looking for, my iced Thai tea was good also. read more

Probably the best Thai food we have eaten in a long while. Portions were really generous and ABSOLUTELY delicious. Chef is to be congratulated. Service was a little slow but Kate made up for it with her charisma and grace. But it could have been an issue if there were more guests than the ten or so on this Saturday night. The only issue was not of their making. NY state law did not allow my wine ( learnt something that evening). BYOB not allowed for non licensed restaurants with a capacity over 19. From the moment we stepped into this Thai restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was attentive , friendly, efficient, and genuinely hospitable. The food was absolutely incredible. I felt some of the food was too sweet, but not as sweet as the previous Thai restaurant that was at the location. My husband liked his food and felt the food overall was very good. He ordered the massamam curry with vegetables and ate the whole thing. We liked the scallion bites, friend chicken. My son and I felt the veggie dumplings tasted a bit off. I ordered the duck soup, I made sure to look at the ingredients on the menu before ordering it, I did not care for the flavor of the broth at all and wonder if it was actually a pork broth which I don't like, it was very sweet and maybe had hints of cinnamon which I'm also adverse to. The duck that came with it was fine (not so crispy, but that happens with take out.) and I ate it all. The noodles were a bit broken up/overcooked so hard to eat with chopsticks. I would order from them again but not the duck soup, I'm willing to go back to my usual stir fry noodle pick and hope that is more successful. The portions were ok, not enough rice for the curry. We did eat everything, save the soup. read more

We love Thai food and have a go to that we always order from but we happened to give SOD a shot. Food was great and authentic. We were very happy with every dish and have ordered several times over the last couple of months. Highly recommend for real Thai food give them a shot. Have not dined in yet but will soon. read more

Second time ordering food from here and it's quickly a new go to for Thai food for me. The dishes are well seasoned, the mild spice had a nice subtle heat. I recommend the pad see ew and pad Thai. The taro appetizer is very dense but lightly battered with peanuts added to it. We also tried the chive pancake which are fluffy triangles that were very tasty but not overwhelmingly chive tasting. Really very good thai food in an unexpected location. Had the shrimp/chicken dumplings and then the crispy duck curry. The dumplings were a uniquely combined flavor with a slightly bland dipping sauce. The crispy duck was outstanding- while crispy on the outside and edges, the center of duck was remarkably tender and juicy, which I have never had cooked properly before. Surprisingly well cooked! Went to SOD for a second time last night, trying different dishes. Again I was impressed by the quality of food and service and amazed that people have yet to discover it. I rarely give great ratings to restaurants, but this one deserves more attention. It has a diverse menu and great food. Looking forward to frequenting SOD. Stumbled into SOD Thai Kitchen for lunch on a whim. So pleasantly surprised - service was superb, ambience is great and the food top-notch. We split a papaya salad, spring rolls, and each got our own lunch special, as well as a Thai iced coffee and a lychee iced tea. Can't wait to try more things on this menu! read more

Rockland has no shortage of good Thai restaurants and after trying a number of them, this is our favorite. We've been ordering takeout from them for a few months and recently decided to go there with friends. We all agreed that this place is a standout. Of course, it all begins with the food, which is just so flavorful and well prepared. The menu is a kind of do it yourself arrangement, which allows you to choose the type of dish, the sauces and the proteins. In addition, you can order mild, moderate, or spicy and if that's not enough of an option you can go for Thai 1,2 or 3. In addition there are a number of vegetarian or vegan options, including mock duck, which is a great substitute for the real thing (which is also available). Even the desserts are standout and we recommend the mango and sticky rice. The ingredients in each dish were fresh and cooked expertly. In addition to the quality of the food, the portions are very generous and the prices are very reasonable. Finally, the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating and really make you feel welcome, in a space that is comfortable and more than adequate for the number of patrons. read more

This places is new and opened in December taking over from a previous Thai restaurant at the same location. The food is very good. Authentic and delicious. They will also enhance the spiciness to your liking . Definitely worth going back and probably one of the better Thai restaurants around here. read more
