Came up to "Party at the Plaza" and we needed a quick bite- Soda Fountain Express it was. They never look busy when I've walked by before, and sure enough they weren't busy on the inside either. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is nice and clean, but I don't think they fully committed to the soda parlor aesthetic as much I was hoping for.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their Coke Zero from the fountain was gross, so I had to switch to Diet. My Double Cheeseburger didn't have much sauce on it, and the patties were extremely tiny even by smashburger standards (I thought I had just received a single burger for a second). My bf's Spicy Chicken Sandwich was "just okay". Luckily the fries were fresh and crispy, and came in a big enough serving to fill us up. Don't know if I'd visit again but for an "okay" meal on a time crunch, it was decent enough. read more

Was excited to try this restaurant but was so disappointed! From the minute we walked in, the staff looked and acted miserable. They were rude, didn't want to accommodate our request for half of the meal to be to go, and they weren't welcoming. Upon realizing the ketchup container was empty, I walked up to the counter to tell them and they replied "there's packets here." and brushed me off. We got the food and it was disappointing to say the least. The sauce on my burger was spicy, with no warning, and my girlfriend's bacon on her BLT was so burnt it was inedible, resulting in throwing away nearly $40 in food. Even my Diet Coke float was a disappointment as the ice cream was freezer burnt. -10/10 we will not be back! read more

We walked in, after having a nice dinner at a near by restaurant and we were so excited about the candy selection they had. We walked in wanting just a few shakes and ended up spending over 50 dollars just in candy. We ordered two shakes; I got a regular shake and my daughter got an unbirthday shake. We sat down and waited, waited some more. We decided to go ask why it was taking so long to get two shakes, only to find out our order was never entered in the system. After a 70 dollar ticket plus a 10.00 tip to the lady in the front counter we expected more than just an apology. Even if it was one free shake, I mean we waited 45 minutes for TWO shakes!!!! Fun fun fun! SIL had the Neapolitan Banana sundae without pineapple, but the pineapple still made its appearance. I had the Everything But shake and that should be illegal. We only came here for the freak shakes, but it was well with a visit to Westport. The Everything But... freak shake is what pregnancy dreams are made of and it definitely lives up to the hype. The freak shake prices ($10+) and sizes feel more manageable at the Westport location than the Union Station location. We visited during lunch on a weekday so it was not too crowded, which allowed the kids the opportunity to bounce off the walls after sharing some ice cream. The great thing about this location is you can easily walk around outside to help get the sugar wiggles out. read more

I stopped in here when we were at Westport Plaza to visit the Rawling Store. I've been to the location at Union Station a couple times. This is a pared down version of that shop. There is a limited food menu and shake menu compared to the Union Station location. However I thought it was serviceable and everyone was happy with what you got. What I really loved about the location was that you ordered at the counter and then just took a seat. This service style is much more efficient that the table service at the Union Station location. As a result we got the orders in fast and the food came out quickly. The staff was pleasant enough as well. The store was clean and had that 50s decorative vibe that you expect from the location. It isn't something I'd go out of my way to visit, but this works if you want a burger and shake. read more

I was so excited to try this diner. The decor was gorgeous as you can see from the pictures. I ordered a double cheeseburger and a side of fries. The food was absolutely ATROCIOUS. The fries, while they were crispy, did not have a stitch of salt and were bitter tasting and weird. The burger continued the bland theme, probably one of the worst burgers I've had. It came with tomato, onion, lettuce, and some special "sauce" that might as well have been Mayo. Very disappointing. For them to be priced around Five Guys price range, I needed the food flavors to be on par, and they absolutely were not. We were going to Starbucks but decided to get ice cream instead. So glad we did! It wasn't crowded when we went in. The place is beautiful! It's very much a 50s-inspired interior. A few work colleagues and I decided to try the Soda Fountain Express today for lunch. The interior is designed in the theme of an older style soda shop, with candies lining the wall as you walk in. Super cute and very clean. The menu is limited with a few burgers, chicken tenders, chicken sandwich, hotdog, pb&j. They have an assortment of shakes, sundaes , and scoops. We all got burgers w/fries or onion rings. The burgers are made with fresh patties not the frozen ones. The onion rings were some of the best I've had. Our tour lasted approximately 20-30 minutes and our guide was friendly and patient with our excited group of kids who needed an occasional reminder to stay back from the chain dividing the tour group area from the production floor. The kids were fascinated, and it was cool to watch the chocolatiers in action, slicing caramel slabs into squares to be turned into hundreds and hundreds of candies. The sample chocolates at the end of the tour were delicious! We got to choose between chocolate peppermint bars and caramel snowmen. Really unappetizing to cut a ravioli open and see raw pasta. Honestly the flavor was pretty rich but not terrible it's just the ravioli itself wasn't well executed. The lovely waitress noticed that I wasnt completely satisfied and took the ravioli off the check. I ordered some "wagyu" sliders that were juicy but in desperate need of some salt. She also offered me a free dessert which was a warm olive oil cake which had a nice orange flavor to it. Honestly quite a nice ending to an underwhelming meal. Would come back for drinks, though.

The food that they had was great but they need more vegetarian options. The only vegetarian options were grilled cheese and pb and j. They need something like a veggie burger or sandwich. Came in on a Tuesday night and the service was very quick and the food I got was super delicious. It wasn't as busy inside but it was definitely very clean and organize. The manager, Chelsea, was super sweet when she greeted me at the door as well as her employees Jamaya and Kareem which were super welcoming. The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was the pie case. It was "seat yourself," so I decided to sit at the counter. I was acknowledged and waited on right away. They have menus, but I didn't really need one because of the lighted display boards on the wall above the counter. Originally, I was going to order ice cream but decided on a slice of coconut cream pie and a cup of coffee. Not many people were ordering coffee, so I got a fresh pot. The pie crust was flaky while the filling was rich and creamy. My only regret is that I didn't have enough room to order a slice of peach crumb pie, too. Young's features the piecrete which is a slice of pie blended with soft-serve ice cream. Some of the pie is reserved for the topping. (I will definitely have to try one of those!) Also, on my "to-try" list is the chicken basket. The chicken is given a saltwater rinse (brining), before being breaded and cooked in a pressure fryer. While chicken is what they are famous for, I would say it's their friendly, top-notch service that accounts for their repeat business and longevity. Not many restaurants have been in business for over 70 years! If your travels take you to Valley Park, this place is a must stop. Be sure to check out the photos and memorabilia.
