Cute little shop that's often got 2-3 cars in line so we decided to give it a try. We ordered four different drink flavors that had old fashioned road trip names like Route 66 etc. Ordering was easy and like other soda shops it also had a selection of other treats like ice cream, cookies, sweet rolls and more. Also other drinks like flavored hot chocolate options. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were patient with us as we asked questions about popular flavors. We might have given them 5 stars just for the great cookies. But they lost a star completely due to our own preferences. We like a little stronger flavors. It seemed they were trying to provide a balanced flavor that did not take over or try too hard. However, for our tastes we prefer stronger and more overt add-in flavors. All right they're not the huge cookies you're used to in the other competitors but the price is half so it seems fair that the cookie sizes also half sized.Fast and friendly service in Salem. The cookies were good cookies but my wife and I were looking for a cookie as a Friday night meal along with ice cream and you'll need more than one cookie for a complete meal ;-) OK after my wife and I dissected the cookies the different flavors we decided that they're good cookies but there's just nothing very 'Stand outish'About them. I was visiting for a couple days from out of state and was told I needed to try this place for a specific drink. Oh my goodness, my friend wasn't wrong at all. I went out of my way on my drive back home just to stop by and get another low 'n' slow sparkling water. My friend originally told me to get a 44oz of it, so I did, but I shared it with my sister...... bad choice. The next time, we definitely both got our own 44oz and sipped it from Utah to California! So refreshing and it wasn't too sweet which I was originally worried about since I normally drink La Croix or Bubly which doesn't have sugar. Their drinks are top notch. The employees are kind. It's a fun, friendly, local place to go. I tried a pretzel, and I am afraid that it was the worst pretzel I've ever tasted. Rather than use the standard frozen pretzels you find in most places, it seems they make their own. To my great dismay, the pretzel lacked any flavor at all. I couldn't even taste salt. The consistency of the dough was the other problem. It was dense, yet quite moist. It almost tasted undercooked, but it wasn't. It was a little flimsy. It didn't come with cheese, nor did I know that was an option until now. However, I doubt that cheese would have made it tolerable. The cookies are also not that great. I tried the chocolate chip cookie, as well as the M&M cookie. They weren't gross by any means, they were just meh. I thought they tasted like they were made with margarine (not sure if that's accurate, but that was what the dough tasted like). I'm sure they would be fine with their ice cream sandwiches. I hate to be so critical of this business because I really like what they're doing for the community. I loved their soda's, and I hope that those keep them in business. My hope is that the owners will see this review, adjust some things, and improve the food products. I look forward to going back for drinks and if I ever see adjustments made to the food, I hope to try them and adjust my review accordingly. read more

Soda Retreat use to be great when they first opeNed, but they have really gone down hill lately. Their customer service isn't great. They're very short, and not kind. Their rewards program sucks too compared to other places. And you're not going to believe this, The worst thing happened to me there a few days ago. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie, because they're usually good, but then a took a bite and it tasted like there was paper in it! So I pull it out of my mouth, and sure enough there was a long piece of wax paper in my cookie! Like, are you for real?! That is so unprofessional and not exceptable! The fact that they sell Rockwell's ice cream is enough to travel the world to get here. Try the apple pie ice cream flavor (seasonal) this month. I have never died over apple pie until I tried this ice cream and in an attempt to have this ice cream on thanksgiving I made apple pie for the first time in my 44 years for thanksgiving just to try to have apple pie ice cream from soda retreat. Not to mention they have biscoff ice cream to die for. Seriously. The soda selection and combinations are excellent. Ice... perfection. How is it that Utah does soda so well????
