Sodam Chicken has one of the best value and taste combinations around for larger parties. My friends and I enjoy the Shoreline location so knew this one would be good. While this is their Capitol Hill location, it's a little further out from the main area of CapHill. Washrooms (restroom for search keywords). Friendly service, but nothing over the top as they simply took orders and brought it fresh. They brought pickled radish out with the chicken which is standard, but the radish was very fresh, meaning they were harder, sharper in flavor, and not as flavorful as a result of not being pickled long enough. Starter Set - we opted for mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and fries. Would love to see sweet potato fries here (another spot in CapHill proper does offer them) but love this combo for variety. Crinkle cut fries were tasty, nothing special. Mozzarella sticks were nice but lacked a cheese pull. Onion rings were the star of the trio, crispy, sweet, and totally delicious. Soy Garlic Chicken - half orders are about 10 pieces and full orders come with around 20, sometimes more. Chicken was juicy, tender, and sauce was just right. Great flavor! Similar to the Shoreline location, while the wings are a decent size, I feel that many Korean fried chicken spots have larger wings. I used to live next to this Sodam Chicken and loved to grab their lunch specials. I come a little less now after having moved a few blocks away. However I wanted to update my review because of a change in their menu option that made me sad. They used to serve the best shoestring fries, in my opinion, that rivaled McDonald's (still the gold standard!). They've since switched to crinkle cut which to me are like elementary school abominations. Bring back the shoestrings I say! HONEST review- We ordered the rice cracker boneless chicken and it came a little pink inside. We told our super nice waitress and she accommodated us, and brought back our order more cooked. Once it was fully cooked we were impressed by how tender the meat still was. We also got the soy garlic bone in, this one was great. LThey claimed the food was already made- yeah right, kimchi in a deli container and frozen pancakes microwaved, big whoop. They were far from empathetic and actually combative. Then they decided to tell me to contact chowbus claiming they can't refund it themselves because it's a third party service (we ordered directly from the site). Chowbus refused to offer a refund. They contacted the restaurant's manager who also refused to authorize them to refund it. Absolutely horrible customer service. If they care more about $15 than a repeat customer, so be it. My group wanted to check out Sodam after seeing videos for it on Instagram/TikTok. For a Friday night, I was surprised to see there were few tables filled throughout the time that we stayed, but it is a little bit out of the way compared to other popular restaurants. I enjoyed how crispy the wings were and the sauces were very nice. I liked that their soy garlic was not as salty as some other places but still had good flavor. The yangnyeom was my favorite out of the two - the sauce was a good sweet but did not have much spice at all. I love that they gave each person their own bowl of radish instead of giving just one or two bowls to share! For our other dishes we got the starter plate with mandu, french fries, and mozzarella sticks, topoki (interesting they call tteokbokki this), and kimchi fried rice. I did not like that the fries were kind of oily and not crispy. I felt the other dishes we got were pretty standard; nothing really stood out to me as amazing. I felt that the food took a while to come out. They did have a lot of online/delivery orders while we were there, so that may be it? The food came out all at once and piping hot, which some people may enjoy. But sometimes for me I prefer things to come out one by one so I can snack on it. I just had the worst service I've ever seen here, and that's really sad because I'd come to count this place as a really great spot in the neighborhood. I came in and granted, I looked and probably smelled a little rough as I'd just managed to set my instant pot on fire. My apt was too smoky to stay in, so I came in expecting the usual friendly faces and helpful service. No such luck! I waited forever for my order to be taken. I had my son and fiance join me but they got no water glasses, no plates, no utensils. We asked for Sprite and never saw it. Great korean fried chicken! We came with a large party and made a reservation ahead of time. The place was quite busy when we arrived, so definitely make a reservation if you have a large group. There is quite a good number of seats available inside though, and it's nice and spacious. We got the half and half along with the tteokkbokki + seaweed noodle rolls to share amongst 4 people, which was the right amount for us. The chicken was crispy and juicy, and I liked how there wasn't much batter. The soy garlic flavor was delicious, and with the gold you can pick 2 sauces to dip it in. I definitely preferred soy garlic, but both were good. The seaweed glass noodle rolls were super crispy and perfectly cooked, and the tteokkbokki was filled with veggies as well which all were absolutely delicious in the sauce. This part of Capitol Hill is quite residential so there is street parking and a couple dedicated spots in their garage. Usually come here for the lunch special which is $12 and you get six pieces of fried chicken and two sides. It's definitely one of the best deals I've seen around. I love the deep fried chicken wing options - there are so many sauces to pick from but the gangjung is my favorite. The oven baked ones are not bad as well. The food typically takes about 20 minutes to come out, but it is all made to order and very fresh. Most of the non-chicken dishes were alright: not outstanding but tasted ok. Everything came out fresh and hot which was really nice. The fried chicken was great: juicy, tender, and flavorful. My favorite was the gang-jang chicken as it was both sweet and savory. The sauce was quite addicting. The yangnyeom chicken I didn't like as much.
