My hubs and I have been wanting to try Cookie's for a while and finally gave it a go last night. We ordered using the Toast app at 5:10pm and picked up at 5:30pm. Our order was waiting for us and the front staffer was nice and friendly. The restaurant is spacious with a homey, kitschy vibe and the front wall of windows were wide open. On a hot summer day, this would be a nice, airy place to eat in. We might eat there next time. 10 minutes later we were home and looking forward to digging into our chicken! We split a Large Bag o' Bites which were crispy, savory, and delicious breaded chicken breast pieces. We also got the three piece combo: two drumsticks and a thigh. We got everything non-spicy and found it all to be delicious, moist, and crispy. I am especially grateful that Cookie's makes their fried chicken WITHOUT DAIRY since I have a hard time digesting milk protein. Cookie's was a let down, I'll start out with that. I had all the hope in the world that this place was going to wow me, but alas, it was not to be. I'll start with some positives: you can order directly on their website (as opposed to being forced to use some fee-heavy service like DoorDash), they're quick, and the Barn Burner sandwich was good. Now for the cons. Either they messed my order up or I was the fool here and screwed up when ordering online, but the four piece tendies I got were plain and utterly spice-less. Being a pepper head and spice fiend, this was a bummer, but it forced me to see that the chicken wasn't seasoned very well. Outright bland one might say. The chicken also had a kind of toughness to it. Not from being really dry or anything, but more from the raw cuts of meat not being trimmed correctly, like I was eating bits of tendon or something. Hey when I order tendies I thought that was cutesy-short for tenders not tendons! They weren't bad, but they were not very good either. The Barn Burner sandwich was decent though, and at a level three of spice, it had a nice heat. I'll give them another chance down the road, but ultimately, in a city that has so many great fried chicken options (Triangle Spirits, S/T Hooligans, and Sisters and Brothers), it's going to be hard to make the decision to choose them again after the meal I had. read more

Cookie's never, ever wants you to leave hungry. The short review: They succeed. First, their chicken is always good. Of course it has to be, but it is. Simple as. I've had sandwiches, bowls, tenders, thighs and drums. They're all good. The sandwiches are the high point in my opinion - particular shoutout to the Slawsome and Hot Honey. They're big and messy but tasty. Can't go wrong with them, and I frequently can't help but order one. The bowls are powerful. I've had both kinds on different trips and they're hard to do in a single sitting, whereas sandwich + side is not. Just be warned. The sides are straightforward - what you see is what you get. They tend to be a little more basic, or classic if you will, than the sandwiches. I like this, since they serve as a side/counterpoint. We tend to get the slaw and pot of gold. The fries are the battered style which are very good and combo well with the rest of the menu. Takeout times tend to be accurate and the staff have been working hard but helpful every time we stop in. Most importantly they've been consistently good every time we go - and often during peak busy times, so that speaks well of their kitchen staff. Top marks all around. The move to the new spot didn't slow them down a bit, so make sure you check the address before going if you haven't been in a few months. read more

Took my granddaughters out to do school shopping and then lunch. They wanted chicken tenders and said they wanted to go to a restaurant that had tenders. I asked if they had been to Cookie's Country Chicken and they said no. I told them they have no idea what a really good chicken tender tastes like until they try CCC! So off we went to the CCC in Ballard. The place was clean, staff nice, and the chicken tenders were OUT IF THIS WORLD!!!! Plus best fries ever! I think this is one of the best chicken combo deals I've seen and one of the best chicken places in Seattle. You get plenty of fries and a free side with the combo. We are picky about our chicken and finding a high quality chicken tender in our area can be really difficult but thankfully Cookie's nailed it!! We did the half and half bucket with a level 3 spicy for half. The level 3 had good spice and flavor and next time I'll have to try their level 5 ghost pepper. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy, juicy and tender and the fries were super tasty also. The portions are large and both their ranch and the Sunny Sauce were excellent. Omg so mad that I have not tried this place out sooner! This food is so amazing. I'm a southern Grove from Texas so I know some good fried chicken. The chicken tenders are perfectly fried. I did try mine with no spice. But the fried chicken with the spice at it was phenomenal. They gave you a good portion of everything and some amazing sauces that I added all in like the hot honey (which I can drink from the bottle) and the zesty ranch! The customer service was great. I was introduced to Cookie's at Ravenna Brewing, when they were doing pop ups. My husband and I were a fan, so we knew we had to get to the brick and mortar. We had visited the Ballard location before they had moved to their new home. Stopped by the new location a few weeks ago. The new location is definitely in the sketchy part of Ballard, but it was nice to have a designated parking lot, rather than trying to find a street spot at the old location! My husband and I both ordered 3 tendies, in cayenne heat (level 2 spicy). Didn't seem spicy enough for my liking, so next time I am going to try the level 3! The chicken is delicious! It's crispy, juicy and flavorful. They offer a lot of sauces to choose from too. Although if you ask me, if you order any spicy level, the chicken doesn't need it! My husband is a dipper though and he likes his sauce. His fave is the Honey Mustard. (I opted for a garlic aioli. I love garlic but it was a little much). We got to this fast food spot around 6:30 PM on Friday, and it was clearly popular tons of people were picking up orders. It's a pretty big place with a few dine-in tables, but since it was our first time and we didn't want soggy burgers, we decided to dine-in. I went with "The Barn Burger" burger with ghost pepper (their spiciest one). The heat level was no joke It was seriously spicy, but in the best way. I loved it. The mayo and pickles went great with the burger, and the sandwich itself was massive. Next time, I'll probably skip the fries and sides, and just stick with the sandwich. Speaking of sides the carnival corn and fries were okay. Not my favorite. The corn had a lot of cheese, and the fries were super oily, probably double-fried. But honestly, the burger stole the show. We were originally planning on getting Korean fried chicken but Cookie's was a spot we were interested in, so changed plans. While I think American fried chicken is similar and difficult to get wrong, it's fair to say Cookie's Country Chicken is a tad above average. Sides also pass the taste test, both the fries and mac were tasty and enhanced the experience. Unfortunately, we did realize we were missing a piece of chicken at the very end. We were starving and eager to eat, so were just enjoying the meal until we got to the end where one of us would get less chicken. Wow, this chicken is finger licking good! Chicken is Crispy, moist, flavorful & delicious. The chicken is deep fried with savoring dredge coating every part of the bird ! As soon as I reviewed the menu I knew southern cooking was coming to my palette. I ordered a few drumsticks , small chicken nuggets and the " Pot Of Gold " which is sweet corn topped with a scoop of mash and chicken gravy. Ended up coming through here on a Sunday night when we needed a late dinner. Went to do an online order for delivery through an app, and between all the extra charges, the total price went up by about a third. We ended up putting an order through their own website and picked it up. It's about a 15 minute drive from the University District. We paid nearly $50 with tax and tip for a bucket of chicken with a side of mashed potatoes. It was really good chicken, but pricing was on par with Seattle. We finally make it in to check it out. Funky old space with weird curving pony walls and a ramp that climbs up to the dining room and past that to the washrooms. The pay station with the drink coolers is squared off, but there's still the OG bar across the dining room, and it keeps the wave-form wall theme going. No drinks at the bar, though. Just chicken statues. There are a few cans of beer and white claw in the coolers. You check the menu online from a cutesy website that takes forever to load because it's a million layers of slide-out screens with a retro 8-bit look. You can have the look and still build a site with clean static pages that will load in a fraction of the time. Anyway, we got tenders, dark meat, corn, mac n cheese, fries, and a couple cans of refreshments. Prices are good, and the kids couldn't have been friendlier or nicer the entire time. Awesome crew. The corn was okay, the fries were pretty great, the mac n cheese was mushy and under-seasoned. The chicken came out explosively hot; even after 5 minutes with the skin peeled off it was still too hot to eat. Tender and juicy, though--perfectly cooked for sure. The batter tasted like it was just white flour. No seasoning at all. They do have 5 levels of spicy pepper you can add (one's off-menu), but that was the only real flavor on mine, other than chicken and flour. This stuff is done very well if you're the type of person who doesn't expect seasoning in fried chicken, which I suppose some people are. One of the best fried chicken burger I have tried in Seattle! The food was amazing. We tried the barn burger and cookies classic. Both the burgers were great but I liked the barn burger more. This is one of my favorite places in Ballard. They have a great famous bowl and poutine bowl my husband and I always order. There is a lot of indoor seating. They have an outdoor patio as well. We stopped by Cookie's Country Chicken on a Sunday after visiting the farmers market and hearing about the great fried chicken served here. The restaurant is pretty casual counter service with plenty of seating, at least during weekend lunchtime. There wasn't any line and there weren't too many people inside so we were able to get our order in quickly. I believe the chicken is fried to order so it took over 20 minutes for the food to arrive. Hot Honey, Cayenne Hot ($12.45) - This sandwich includes a pretty hefty piece of fried breast, moist and flavorful on the interior, with a decent puddle of juice that drips out while eating. It seems like they sacrifice some of the fry time to cook the meat perfectly - instead of the crust becoming a crisp blanket over the chicken, it exhibits basically no crunch whatsoever and barely clings onto the meat. There are pickled jalapenos on top of the meat and shredded lettuce on the bottom, both of which contribute more crunch than the breading. The chicken is drizzled with hot honey, adding mostly a bit of sweetness, but a bit of heat that complements the cayenne hot (level 2 of 4) I ordered. In terms of the spice - it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I would actually consider it mostly mild, at least in hot chicken land - enough to heat up the mouth, but not enough to get me sweating. (4/5) Dark Three Piece Combo + 2 Side ($16.95) - This meal comes with two drums and a thigh. All are covered in a thin, but crisp breading - kind of generic, similar to a fast food-type of breading. The taste is mostly of the fry oil but it's pleasant enough in texture. The salt levels are wonky - for some reason both of the drums were exceptionally salty, but the thigh was okay. All three pieces are served piping, steaming hot and have a good moistness level and texture in addition to the the skin being well rendered. It's good fried chicken, but there's nothing especially noteworthy about it. (4/5) For the sides we got the Mac & Cheese and Carnival Corn. The Mac is very thick and served only barely warmed. The texture is basically of tender mush with no crunchy enhancements to be found. A spoon easily slices through the macaroni like softened butter. While the taste is more mild, the texture and look makes the sauce seem like some kind of Velveeta concoction. (3/5) The carnival corn is a nice blend of sweet corn, mayo, and cheese. The cheese is nicely stretchy, much more so than the mac. It's a good flavor blend and is easy to eat. (4/5) Cookie's Country Chicken serves some pretty decent fried chicken. I'm not sure it's exactly worthy of all the high praise it gets, but I think it's high enough quality to scratch any fried chicken craving, especially for people looking for more of a classic fried chicken kind of place. Every time I go I have a fantastic meal! Having moved to Ballard in the last year, we've entertained a lot of friends who want to see our new place. If we all want to eat out, we take them to Cookies. For us, this place is synonymous with the Ballard experience: the farmer's market, the locks, Majestic Bay and a chicken sandwich. We even live next to a five star pizza truck that we've been to less often than cookies. We often see their server Miles, who is a great guy, and never have to wait long. The side of fries were delicious and I would highly recommend the ranch which was very seasoned. The mac & cheese was just OK for me. It's pretty standard mac & cheese. The sandwich itself had a huge piece of chicken and was very filling. I went with the classic with one star spice, but I wish I tried one of their other fun sandwiches!
