The event is donation-based. Staff are friendly and welcoming! I'll definitely continue to attend events here, even though the commute from Oak Park isn't the greatest. I had a horrible experience, the massage therapist made me feel terrible. I got a sports massage and she told me I would regret it. She also made me feel uncomfortable. She told me I was wasting my money and I should just do yoga. I drive two hours to this location to be disrespected, I will not be going back. The massage therapist also told me I had deep emotional problems and a massage was not going to help. I went to get a massage to destress and now I feel even more stressed. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Soderworld, and also Shannon Chada who is my Reiki practitioner. It's been about a year since I discovered this magical place, and since then I've attended several events, a Reiki class, and also had 3 reiki sessions of my own with Shannon. Shannon exudes warmth and authenticity, and she brings decades of experience and knowledge to your session. She really takes her time with you and makes you feel like the whole world just stopped for this session. I leave feeling so refreshed and at peace and with tools to work on my personal goals. I've seen a major difference in my life since I started attending Soderworld and having my reiki sessions with Shannon. Shannon not only lends her gifts to help you on your healing journey, but she also helps you get in touch with your own healing power, to show you how truly powerful you really are. my experience with reiki was horrible. I had been attacked and no one was able to help me. i wasn't taught as much as needed. I felt very rushed through then the teacher never bothered to tell me there was level 3 so I found a school that has teachers there that care I tried to ask for the refund but of course they never answered the phone. my papers here are worthless. I'm very angry and disappointed I wasted my time and money here. warning please do not go here. it's only about the money and jamming you through instead of teaching you the correct way. thank you for closing your doors because it taught me a lesson I'll never forget. read more

This place is so serene from the outside, despite being on route 83. The inside has a small section of essential oils and little storefront. The downstairs lead to the salt cave, which they offered for 15 minutes complimentary since I was a first time customer. They recommend doing it after a massage to continue getting your muscles relaxed and toxins out. They appointment making is extremely easy but, if you have a question, they are extremely quick to respond. They have massages that a lot of places, even in the city don't have such as cranial sacral, lymphatic and lomi lomi. Lomi lomi is hard to find and I had to get one. It was just as good as the ones I have had in the city. They also have some free classes on certain days. If you email them, you can also get private meditation sessions, which I definitely plan to do. I personally enjoy the Tibetan bowl but whatever they have will be fine. So if you have a group of perhaps four people, you can schedule a meditation just for your group, which is very cool. I haven't actually done it yet but I will very soon. As someone who never believed in holistic healing until recently, I can tell you that if you are a skeptic, they have plenty of things to ease you in. read more

I had a massage there and was really impressed with the entire operation. I did hear the receptionist during my massage laughing with some other woman in the lobby. But that's minor in comparison to what I observed. While I was getting undressed for the massage I noticed the therapist had her cell phone on and aimed at the massage table. I checked it, and sure enough, it was recording. I hit stop and put it back where I found it. Not cool. I'm giving it 3 stars because the massage itself was great and would have been 5 had I not been recorded. read more

My privacy was violated during a massage. I told the masseuse she was making me uncomfortable, and she proceeded to argue with me while I was undressed on the table instead of just excusing herself like I had asked. As if it wasn't already mortifying enough, I walked out to leave and she was talking badly about me, calling me a liar, to the receptionist. Management tried to make it "right" with an offer of a free service, which I declined. read more

I had an amazing experience at SoderWorld today. I booked an appointment for the 75 minute Combination Massage with Stephanie P. She asked me what I wanted, and I explained to her that I had tension in my upper back and that I wanted some stress relief. She certainly delivered! It was such a relaxing and blissful experience. All of my stress melted away as she worked magic with her hands. She made sure to check in with me a couple times during the massage to ask me how I feel, which was appreciated. my daughter came home from her Girl Scout troop meeting/event held at your place and was wigged out by the girl Mika that lead the group. who lets a teenage girl lead a group on such wacky ideas. this young girl Mika that lead the Girl Scout troop was rude and her overbearing mother was just as equally as rude. i would not bring my daughter to this Mika's classes someone needs to teach Mika some manners, hygiene and how to speak properly when conducting a class. read more

It's been about 2 years since I've been to Soderworld. I was surprised to see they had a listing here on Yelp and no reviews. So allow me to go first. Bear in mind this is based on experiences that are going back a few years. But I doubt much has changed. The owner Eric Soderholm and his daughter run the place. I've talked with Eric several times. He's got a very soothing tone and cadence when he speaks and I'm sure the classes get a great turn out when he's speaking. He also does hypnotherapy. We talked about it a couple of times and in the end I decided against it. But if I had to do it, I would want him to be the one. They had guest speakers in various healing arts pretty frequently. Sometimes they were free and other times there was a small fee. I went to a couple of group meditations with Billie Topatati ( I think that's how you spell it). They were really wonderful. The meditation room was big and comfortable and cushions were provided (or chairs). They had a small retail section where you could buy various oils, tinctures, incense, candles, mats and books on various self help topics. Prices were a little high but most spa's that sell stuff usually are. Primarily I went here for massage. I was a massage junkie. I ended up going to school for it, I loved it so much. But the therapists at SW were all fantastic. They all had a sort of hippie vibe and were really laid back. They weren't in uniforms back then but it looks like now they're more spa oriented. One of the things that I loved about the massage was the rooms. They were always really dimly lit with beautiful scented candles and almost ethereal music in the background. Each room had one wall that was wallpapered with some outdoor mural. One was a tropical waterfall, another was a mountain stream. The tables all had table warmers which I really appreciate. I get cold easy and there's nothing worse that being uncomfortably chilly while getting massaged. The therapists were really in tune to my needs. Sometimes I was chatty and they would talk me up in an almost therapeutic way. Other times I wanted quiet and they seemed to understand and naturally facilitate that. They were always good with intuitive touch. I've been to a LOT of MT's. They can teach anyone to be a "massage therapist" but that doesn't mean they have a clue or are any good when it comes to intuitively knowing where and how to alleviate the aches and pains. I never had that problem here. They also offered couples massage, which I did for Valentines Day one year. At that time all the MT's were women and at first I was worried about another woman touching my greased up naked boyfriend. LOL. But my fears were quickly put to rest. They were utterly professional and I never gave it another thought. I used to think the prices were really fair. Back then it was $65 for an hour. They seem to have changed the pricing structure. I'd love to hear from someone that's been there recently to see how it compares to my experience. But for me I'd give a 4 and I really should go back and check out the new digs. read more

Wow. I really wanted to like this place. Went here for a couples massage and was really hoping for an "experience". I have had MANY a massage and I knew the second I was rushed straight into the room with my partner without being asked if I wanted water, or to use the bathroom, and just told to get undressed and onto the table with no stage setting- that this was NOT about having an experience. Where was the MOOD? This was a couples massage? I have very high expectations and I expected to slowly be brought back into a relaxing waiting area with water and a private room to change into a robe where I would then be gracefully lead into the suite.... Not so. It was hasty (We did walk in the door at exactly our appointment time and it was our fault for not being early- but it was our first time here and we got lost), and rough around the edges. We were literally told to just hang our clothes and bags on the back of the door in this tiny cramped room. Not romantic AT ALL. I also know that the grounds are supposed to be beautiful but when we were done we were promptly shown the door after hasty and disapointing massages and nothing was said about taking a "look around" or anything. C'mon Soderworld, I know you've got more to offer!! read more

I often wonder why I go to places like Coldwater Creek Spa and Kohler Spa when SoderWorld is a better massage experience and only minutes from home. I just had a Swedish massage by GiGi and it was amazing. She asked questions so she was able to zero in on my trouble spots and checked my preference for pressure. It was therapeutic and so relaxing - I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks! I think the price for their services is a great value too. I cannot wait to go again! read more

I really don't understand some of the negative reviews here. I've had massages in various places all over the country, and there is no better massage than what I get at Soderworld. I've been to various chain places (like Massage Envy - meh), some of the smaller local spas all the way up to some of the nicest spas attached to high end resorts in varoius parts of the country. While some of the latter were pretty good, there is no better than Soderworld. It's especially good if you go a few times and ask for different therapists until you find one you click with. They take the time to really learn your body and what it needs, and it's EXTREMELY healing. I recently had lower back/sciatic nerves issues that were painful enough that I could barely walk. I worked with Gigi for a few weeks in a row, and I no longer have ANY pain. She is almost supernatural, in my opinion. The grounds ARE beautiful - especially in Spring and Summer. Anyone can go there and check it out, walk the outdoor labyrinth and enjoy the peace. You don't have to be "invited" to do so. Just go. read more

How can you not love this magical place! It has something for everyone from learning about metaphysical practices to diverse relaxation treatments such as body treatments, facials, energy therapies, and some of the best massage therapists I have had the pleasure of knowing.. and even withIN the bodywork modality they offer Thai, Sol Flo, Shiatsu, Lomi Lomi, pregnancy massage, reflexology, ...just to name a very few... and then true get-out-of-your-mind therapies such as sound and light treatments, meditation classes, gong "baths" (a sound and vibration experience). There is coaching on many subjects, or readings if you would like to experience something new- or old. ; ) They even have a salt cave where you can relax as the stars envelope you. They have yoga classes & training, and other "move your body" classes also. Their beautiful little gift shop supports local artists and is always expanding to include new treasures. I've also been to guest author appearances and heard so many fascinating talks and love the information others bring to the table. They've shown movies, had lovely ceremonies, and offer many free events as well. If you'd like Community, this is the place to be. If you'd like somewhere to be alone with your thoughts, you can walk the inspirational path around the lake, or settle into one of their many quiet, comfy nooks to read, pull a card, or zone out to the music or fresh air and be left alone as long as you like. The people that work here are so warm and inclusive. They make you feel right at home, and are informed to answer questions and offer guidance. I am so happy I found this place- this oasis. I have only had one massage in my entire life so I don't have much to compare to. I came here a few days ago because my friend is in the school and needed hours of practice. I brought a friend with and we both enjoyed our massages from Rachel. She did a wonderful job and I was impressed with the little lounge we got to wait in while the other person was getting their massage. I don't know if I'd come back here for a massage from upstairs. I will probably go where my friend does after she graduates, but my friend does really like the school and is very happy there. read more

Fantastic massages! Truly, they do a wonderful job and really solve problems rather than just go for a "feel good" experience that doesn't really last. Another plus is that they have more massage options than I have ever seen. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of their gift certificate policy - beware as their certificates expire. Most shops in Illinois don't do this to their patrons. Such is life - I told people to stop buying any for me from this facility. I'd rather just pay for the massages myself and not risk forgetting a certificate and feeling like I've lost out on money. All that said, the massages really are the best in the area. read more

I have only been here for massages and not one has ever disappointed me. Today I had MaryRose for a 90min deep tissue/Swedish combo. Every second was fantastic and such attention to detail was taken. I had a very old gift certificate that had no expiration date on it and which I had misplaced and just found. I went there to schedule a massage and was told that they may not honor my gift certificate and would call me and let me know after checking with accounting. They called me today and said they had no record of the certificate but would give me a 20% discount on any services and a free salt cave session, which I have no interest in. I wanted a deep tissue massage and simply wanted them to honor my perfectly good no expiration date gift certificate. Came here with a good friend to go in the himalayan sea salt cave. Was super awesome. Led lighting in the ceiling & you can pick your meditation. We ended up falling asleep it was so relaxing! The only reason for 4 stars is after reading the reviews learning there was a beautiful grounds. One of the worst yoga classes I have ever been to, combined with horrible customer service made for a less than stellar experience. I was told it was a hatha class (longer holds with attention to form) and instead it was a vinyasa class which was too difficult- more like a workout. My mat was disgusting. I know that I left with sweat and hair on me that was not my own. Soderworld: please spray down your mats. It's good public health practice. Despite only three people in class, the teacher did not provide any verbal variations or physical adjustments. This would have been great for the 2 women next to me who were in very compromising positions throughout class and will do long lasting damage to their bodies if they do not get adjustments. The desk attendant at the end of class was rude and unhelpful when I asked for another recommendation. The company should be embarrassed charging $15 for a class of that quality. Soderworld: please hire staff that is qualified to do the work you advertise or at the very least is kind and considerate. Is that too much to ask of a "Healing Center"? read more

I recently moved to the area, and was so excited to find out I was so close to a "spa". The staff was friendly on the phone, and I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. The massage itself was ok. A bit rough at first, but she was very receptive when I asked her to change her pressure. The atmosphere however, left something to be desired. I'm not sure what was going on but I heard quite a few loud noises that were pretty distracting while I was trying to relax. Also the music was a little odd.....not your normal background massage music. At first it was alright, but there were a lot of cover's of popular romantic songs which just weren't to my taste in the situation. I think I really would have preferred instrumental relaxing music. I had initially been interested in the membership plan, and although no information was offered to me I planned on asking for more information and a tour after the massage was over. I never ended up asking. I actually think massage envy and chains of that sort have a slightly better atmosphere for a cheaper massage. I think I'm going to have to keep looking for a spa, even if it means I have to drive farther. read more

I had one of the best massages ever at Soder World by Rachael. Soder World doesn't necessarily have the tranquil, spa-like atmosphere, but I'll sacrifice that for a great massage! And I think the prices are reasonable. I think they have a membership plan and it would've been nice to receive more info about that or maybe even a tour of the place. She really listened and focussed exactly on everything I asked for. She's not afraid of deep tissue and knows her musculature so well she can pinpoint exactly what is needed. WORST PLACE EVER!!!!! Really wanted to have a great experience for our 10 year anniversary and got a couples massage with my husband. Do NOT go here if you are hoping for the "spa" experience. The place has not been updated in the last 30 years. The receptionist are less than welcoming and talk about their weekend in their cramped, non-relaxing entryway. The bathroom reminded me of my work bathroom. The "experience" was horrible! They show beautiful pictures of this garden on their advertisement, but we were never invited to go back there and they have no windows or anything looking over the area. Major disappointment!! The massage was even worse, the therapist did anything but listen to me. (I felt that it had to do with me being obese and asking for a deep tissue massage) I thought that maybe I was not clear about the type of massage because she kept repeating that I was going to get a Swedish massage, but my husband who was with me, reassured me that I was very clear. They give you a paper to fill out in the beginning, don't bother filling it out, they do not look at it. The massage therapist asked questions and then deliberately ignored my answers about focus areas or whether her massaging was too deep. She spent an hour (of a 75 min. massage) massaging my rotator cuffs ( I am not exaggerating) after I asked 3 times during the massage time for her to stop rubbing my shoulders, she would move for a few seconds and then go right back to them. What made it worse is that I was able to look over at my husband getting a decent massage (low back, legs, feet). My back was not massaged, my neck (which was were I asked her to focus) was massaged literally for just a few seconds and nothing below my shoulder blades was EVER massaged, no feet, no nothing!! I had so much pain in my shoulders that I had to stop for pain medication on my way back to our hotel. It ruined my entire night, My arms were so sore and throbbing. I continued to also have numbness and tingling down my arms for 3 days. They did not give a discount, refund, they just offered for me to come back....not happening,( I live over an hour away.) I would rather rub up against a rock than go there.!!! Do NOT go there!!! read more

Let me just say that I am a massage therapist and always have a hard time finding a therapist because of that....... But let me tell you that Rachael and GiGi surpassed my expectation!!!! My boyfriend and I walked out of there whole new people. I got massaged every other day for 9 months at massage school just to mention a few of my massage experiences and Rachael's massage was the best I've ever had!!!!! My boyfriend and I can't wait to go back and switch therapists cause they were that good!!! My boyfriend said GiGi's massage was sooooo good he practically had to crawl out of the room and Rachael's massage was so revitalizing I almost forgot my shoes! It felt like star treatment! I highly recommend these two therapists and coming from a therapist I would take that recommendation! By the way we got the deep tissue. Almost forgot to mention how reasonable the prices are and the fact they got us two appointments at the same time on really short notice which is a miracle in the massage industry!
