Place was busy and I couldn't fathom why it took so long to open considering they didn't change a thing or move a wall. Just painted over TGIF. Chips were stale. Salsa flavorless. Went there last night. they had a great band and service was excellent. I also like the old tavern vibe. I'll definitely go back.

I'll start by saying that the hostess was rude. She took 10 minutes to seat us. Then tried to cram 5 people into a small booth. When we asked for a table she claimed they didn't have any even though the place was practically empty. She then proceeded to talk SH!T about us to her co-hostess. The clean up staff would take plates and glasses as we were finishing. We felt completely rushed for no reason. Our server was excellent. He was the lone bright spot from this visit. The food was average, at best. The Margaritas were pretty good. There are better options in the area. We'll never go back. read more

Our first time eating here. We sat at the bar the bartenders were very good. The drinks were excellent and the bartenders were great at explaining all our choices. The food was also excellent I had the Carnitas tacos you get 3?and the were full of meat the tortillas were house made and were very good my wife had a blackened chicken chimichanga which was huge and also delicious. We will definitely go back. It's about time we got a non fast food restaurant in Roxbury. read more

It was our first time visiting Sofia's. Service was very good. Ambience was as expected from a Mexican restaurant, upbeat, not overwhelmingly loud, but fun. We visited on an early Friday evening. We shared the guacamole, which was outstanding nice and fresh had great flavor. The chips were a little bland, didn't taste fresh. It could've used a touch of salt. I had a blackened chicken burrito. It was delicious. My husband had skirt steak and chicken fajitas and he enjoyed them very much. He said the flavor was very good. We had ordered cheese nachos as an appetizer, but it came out with our entrées instead, so we ended up not really eating The cheese nachos but they look really good. Overall I would recommend Sophia's. Oh, and the margaritas are strong. Woo hoo! read more

Drinks and service were great, my boyfriend did find a piece of grey hair in his rice and beans that came in a separate plate of his entree which is pretty disgusting. I got the carne asada tacos and they were good. I would recommend the tacos and the pineapple guacamole. As far as the drinks, try the mojitos they were great! Wanted to try out a new restaurant with my family. The food was extremly over priced. 8 shrimps on a plate with rice and beans was $30. Not only was it over priced it also was very bland and lacked flavor. The birria tacos had little to no flavor and were dry and a waste of money. The carnitas burrito was not shredded it was cubed with lots of fat and gooey. Disgusting. Will not be going back. Our waiter got frustrated with the ask to split a check and we ended up getting another waiter. very bizarre experience would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great experience at Sofia's Taqueria in Ledgewood NJ for dinner. Party of 3 at 6:30 pm. We were seated right away. Chips and salsa was delivered quickly and was delicious. Adult beverages were also ordered and came within a few minutes. Dinner was also served quickly and the food was excellent; flavorful and abundant! The staff was friendly and hard working. I want to start off by noting that this experience could have been a lot worse, but in the grand scheme of things was overall subpar. To begin, the atmosphere veered towards money laundering scheme seeing as there was absolutely no one else in the restaurant, while it appeared to be minimally staffed. Our waitress kindly showed us to our table, before disappearing for almost the entirety of the meal. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup which resembled nothing but soggy bean water with a singular random chunk of carrot at the bottom (can't forget the mountain of tortilla strips just sogging up that soup). I am still thinking about the soup and am shuddering at the thought of it. The street corn, birria tacos, and pineapple chicken salad were all 10/10's, however they must have had a different chef churning out the soup and guacamole. The music kept turning on and off at the oddest intervals and left the restaurant sitting in silence aside from the constant noise of everyone rubbing up on the seran wrapped seats. It did end up taking our server a good 20 minutes to bring our receipt only after we asked for it, but overall we were not impressed with our first adventure at Sofias. read more

Bartender has an attitude and doesn't specify the "rules" on the menu. It's states thirsty Thursday 90 min unlimited sangria. Because I didn't say I wanted the unlimited I got charged for the four sangrias I had. I was only trying to understand why and he had nothing but attitude. read more

Ambiance and food definitely good... 40 minute wait to get in, once we were at a table it took another 15 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us, as the hostess passed our table I got her attention and asked if we could get a waitress, she smiled and kept walking. Finally someone took our order, food did come out quickly.all in all I'd try it once more read more

The atmosphere is nice. The servers are friendly. However, the quality of food was lacking for this pricey meal. Typical items you would get in any Mexican restaurant fell far below the bar here. For example the fajitas don't come with any sort of sides such as rice and beans, which is typical for a Mexican restaurant. It only comes with Shredded cheese, sour cream, and pico. While the steak was good, the fajitas had no substance to them with nothing much to put in with it. Another note was the chips are tricolor and the red ones especially did not have a good taste. The Mocktail I got was also mainly ice and hardly any drink. Unfortunately, I will not be returning as there are far better Mexican restaurants. Also make sure that you look at your check as they do charge a credit card fee of about 4%. read more

Regarding Sofia's Taqueria, which just opened in Ledgewood. My wife and I tried it out last night. Never again. Apologies to Don Jose Mexican Restaurant in Netcong: we strayed and paid the price. Service was slow, despite there being something like 15 servers. Food was terrible; tasted like it had been prepared, frozen, thawed, and microwaved. Tried "Sofia's Special Guacamole." There's nothing special about it. Pork Burrito was 98% rice and beans. Even the salsa looks and tastes store-bought. If you want good Mexican food and service, Don Jose in Netcong is the place. Prices are equivalent to Sofia's but the food and service is a thousand times better. read more

Couldn't wait for this place to open. Went tonight; food, decor, drinks, service all outstanding. Asked for March Madness Final 4 games to be put on, not possible, all channels had all recorded old events on. Not only were we disappointed so were the Yankee fans and the Devils and Rangers fans. We went to Sofia's last Saturday and we had been looking forward to it for some time. We were seated quickly and i asked for a recommendation on which sangria to try. The waitress suggested the spicy mango which i ordered. I love sangria, but i did not like this one-it didn't taste like mango nor sangria. My husband and i shared the mussels which were brought quickly and were amazing and a generous serving. My husband ordered the shrimp burrito bowl and I ordered the grilled fish tacos which were supposed to be served with guacamole or some avocado sauce and some mango. I love guacamole, but i am allergic to avocados and can not eat them. I asked if i could get a different sauce to go on the taco- whatever the chef recommended. The waitress said yes. A little while later, our food arrived. My husband's shrimp looked and tasted wonderful and it was a very generous serving. My fish tacos had a little bit of mango and that was it. I asked the person who brought the food about the sauce, and he said that he would bring something. A manager came and made me feel like i was being a problem. I explained for the 3rd time that i was allergic to avocado and would like something to replace it on my tacos. He said that they had 3 sauces, which one would i like? I asked for the one that he suggested. Someone brought it and it was fine. (Besides the sauce issue, the fish was good, but it was served as 3 little tacos on a place with about 4-5 tiny cubes of mango on each and that was it, no rice, no beans, nothing else). We also ordered the chocolate mousse cake which was delicious. When we got the bill, there was a $1 charge for extra sauce, I i felt like i was being punished for having an allergy or that they didn't believe me. The check was ~$95 and the sauce they charged us for probably cost less than the guacamole. I don't know if we'll go back or not read more
