I'm perplexed at all the bad reviews here, so let me start by saying this is a hidden gem! My family and I frequent the restaurant often, and have had nothing but impeccable service. The food is phenomenal and the service fantastic. We have hosted several events over the last 8 months at Sofia's, including most recently my rehearsal dinner. I worked closely with the owner to ensure the tables were set up to my specifications, all the way down to the timing of the food delivery and beverage placement. They are accommodating, reasonable in price, willing to work with you for party planning and the food is amazing Italian! To top it all off, they are BYOB - which we love :) Don't believe all the bad reviews, and give them a try. I've never written a YELP review, and felt this place deserved it. read more

Food was good, not exceptional. Service was terrible. Wait staff did not know who ordered what. Two people in my party had to return their entrees as they were not as ordered. No one asked if the food was ok, was not offered dessert, which was fine, by then just wanted to get out of there. They claim to be family friendly but do not have a children's menu??? Sofia's gets 0 stars for all their greed. We booked the restaruant for our uncle's funeral repast. We were supposed to have the place to ourselves. Imagine our surprise and horror when we showed up and they asked us with which party do we belong? It was utter chaos with neither owners, Carol nor Rick, anywhere to be found. The manager called them and yet they still did not come by the restaurant. They left their waitstaff to deal with the mess. When we checked the reservation book, our party was the only one listed. I'm sure they were over their capacity and am checking that out with the fire department - there was over 120 people in the place and that is not including staff. I had to ask a member of the other party to stop drinking our beer. We had guests that did not have a place to sit. Some sat in the alcove while others stood or took turns with other guests. One table didn't get coffee and dessert. They tried to overcharge us by charging full price for the children. It was a hard enough day dealing with the funeral of a beloved uncle and then seeing my mother-in-law and her sisters so upset because of the Pavoni's greed was heartbreaking. The pain in their eyes should not have been there. Carl returned my call and offered "dinner on him". NOONE in my family will eat there again so dinner means nothing to us. We want a refund. Of course now he won't return calls. I hope the extra couple thousand bucks was worth it to them. They lost 2 loyal customers in my aunt & uncle who reccommended the place. And they have lost about 50 other residents of Union County that would rather eat paint then eat there. We are making sure that all of our friends are aware of what kind of greedy people these people are. If you want to support a place that takes advantage of people's pain and loss, then by all means please eat at Sofia's. read more

I found Sofia's through Groupon, but it is a place I would go back even without a discount. We started off with the crab cake appetizer, which was good but not worth the price. I probably won't get that again. For dinner I went with the classic spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were pretty solid, and my entree was large enough to split between two meals. My date got linguine with white clam sauce, and we were both pleasantly surprised with not only the amount but the size of the clams that came with. This place is a no frill, old school Italian restaurant with tasty food. The service was great, but we did also go on a random weeknight close to closing time. I can see how the quality of service would deteriorate once they get slammed. All in all, it was a great experience and y'all should definitely go check it out. read more

We had a wonderful dinner there last night...I had previously been to Sophia's for a birthday party about 5 years ago and had a great experience...last night was no different....we usually go across the street to picante for dinner (our fav place!) but decided to go Italian for a change...we were greeted by the owner who quickly seated out party of 4...as soon as we sat they gave us a bowl of pickled carrots, fresh bread and butter...everything was delicious...I ordered the chicken margarita...basically it's chicken parm eggplant parm and a side of mashed potatoes and grilled eggplant...it was delicious...I usually don't finish my food but I pretty much cleaned my plate....the service was pretty good..a little slow at times but then again the restaurant was completely full so I guess it's to be expected...it was by no means terrible just a little slow...overall I would recommend Sophia's! read more

Two of us just had lunch here, and it was pretty good. Salads were fine. I tried one lobster ravioli with a big piece of lobster, and it was REALLY good (though I'm not a ravioli guy, despite the fact that I look like live on a diet of nothing but raviolis). My entree was the Salmon Oregenata, which was just OK...not terrible...not spectacular. This place has potential as a nice BYOB in Springfield, but it needs a few upgrades. I Love this little and cozy Italian place. I go there often for a quick lunch or a nice dinner when i am around. The staff is friendly, the decor is modern but warm and the food is always well made and delicious. Wellll the owner totally overbooked our day and didn't even answer our phone calls , show up to meetings until we had to go there and show up to finally see him. It was by chance that I came across to this restaurant. I was driving by on Morris Ave as I was heading to look at a place for our grand daughter's First BD. Liked the way it looked from the outside and decided to check out the place with some friends for dinner. The service was very good and the food was excellent. It was a leisure dinner which we enjoyed , and I believe my friends went back since they liked the food very much. The Party got booked and although initially nervous because everything was very easy, I thought "too easy to be true". All of our guests enjoyed the food very much . They were very accommodating since we had a number of guests who had different allergies and food requirements. The Service was excellent and they dealt very nicely with kids, entertainment and crying babies! After the party I went back with some other friends, I almost do not make it since the restaurant was jam packed. Not a single table was available at one point, they had at least 2 large dinner parties, The service was slower but the food is great so you do not mind lingering over it, we just got another bottle of wine out of the car! I have waited a long time to write this review. 7/13/17 my Father passed away so i needed a place to gather after the wake. I visited Sophias and discussed the food options with a representative (i dont have a name) one pasta a chicken, a vegetable, soft drinks, and some type of dessert mostly cookies. He circled the items on the menu we were working with and wrote the price $22 dollars per person. We would have about 30-35 people. i never asked for a written contract nor did i receive a copy of the menu he just circled and wrote the pricing I TRUSTED this Sophia representative BIG MISTAKE The day arrived we met at Sophias it was set up nicely and the food was ready, we sat we shared stories about my father, and ate the food. At the end i went to thank them and settle the bill to my surprise the cost per person was now $30 per person. I didn't have any recourse so i paid it. At a time that i needed some compassion i was taken advantage of. I have never returned to Sophias I will never recommend them and i share my misfortune whenever someone mentions sophias. read more

This was an excellent dining experience. Arrived toward the end of lunch service and was graciously greeted by Jason, who delivered prompt and courteous service. Fried calamari was tender with a crisp coating and delicious. The shrimp scampi was excellently prepared in a cream sauce and featured several very large-sized shrimp. The best Italian restaurant in town! Friendly service, fantastic food and not too expensive to boot compared to the other "classy" places in Millburn and Summit. The manager Jason is the best and he made sure our dining experience would be perfect. We went twice already for my wife's birthday and my sister-in-law and we sure will come back again soon! Special mention to Jason who made sure my son Justin felt comfortable and right at home. Justin is a special needs child and Jason had an instant rapport with him. We found the waitstaff friendly and attentive on our 12/27/13 visit. It's great that you can bring your favorite wine to have with your dinner but the food was mediocre. The salad was very good, the mussels sambucca were fishy and tough. The main dish of eggplant layered with mozzarella cheese served with pasta was disappointing. The taste was not anything special. My husband had the Osso buco which he stated was ok. He has eaten better and he felt that he should have gone with his 1st choice of pasta and clams. Maybe it would have been a better choice. The other couple we were with said their meals were ok to good, again nothing so special that they would have to return. The noise level in the restaurant increased dramatically throughout the evening that we opted out for coffee/dessert. It was too bad that we couldn't sit afterwards and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and the visit with our friends.
