A solid Italian place in downtown millburn. They have all the classic Italian dishes and the food was really good. When you first walk in, there carry out pizza with some casual seating. The restaurant is in the back. As you head out the side door, there is a beautiful patio with outdoor seating that is shaded under umbrellas. BYOB is always a plus.

9/17/25 - I was out today on business and when it was time for lunch, I came across a place called La Strada in Millburn, NJ. La Strada is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria combined. There is full service table seating in the back and a few table seats in the front room for slice eaters like me. Overall, the place feels kind of high end. The cooks I overheard were speaking Italian to each other. The guy who took my order was like me which means he had no idea what they were saying either. This was one of those times when I wish I had my dad with me (RIP). Although he didnt speak Italian, he could pick up words and tell me what the conversation was about. I asked for one plain slice and one Margherita slice which my new counter friend brought to my table piping hot. The plain slice had a wonderful, tangy sauce and a high end premium premium mozzarella cheese. The under crust like the outer crust was crunchy and delicious. The overall flavor had a touch of char taste which was a bit surprising considering I didn't see any char whatsoever anywhere on the slice. But no complaints as flavor is flavor and this one works. The only knock here is the slice is limp. No toppings slide off when you pick it up, but you have to fold it to make it stand up. And when you fold it, theres a slight grease drip. The Margherita slice stands up a bit better than its plain cousin slice. The sauce is tangy and layered thick. And it has the most wonderful basil flavor. They use fresh mozzarella on this one and there are pieces of basil in every bite. They also drizzle olive oil on top but there is no grease drip. The crust like the plain slice is crunchy and delicious. Overall Rating: A-

Arugula Pie. Personal size. Huge and delicious!

Pasta-tively delightful! Super dependable and delicious Italian! Amazingly fast and friendly service. While their massive menu offers apps, salads, foccacia sandwiches, entrees, and daily specials, standouts my family loves are their Veal Parm and Signature Tortellini entrees and Arugula Pizza. Even if you do takeout or delivery, they still include a great mix of bread and a good house salad (not the shitty pale kind) with every entree. Over the last ten years, this spot remains a slice above the rest! NOTES/TIPS: **Free street parking by Taylor Park on Main St. (2 min. walk). Paid (free after Municipal Lot 1 on the corner of Main St. and Millburn Ave. (1 min. walk). **Cute inside with about 12 tables for couples and small groups. Patio in the back with a few tables in warmer months. **On Doordash. **Great for Catering and office lunch orders.

I've loved this place since I was a kid. When I was eating gluten, this is the pizza I would dream about. Also their baked ziti. I haven't had it in ages because I'm sadly gluten free now (my body is happier, even if my taste buds aren't) but I always encourage people to come to this family-friendly restaurant. Slices are classic NJ style pizza.

Solid 3.5. Service is incredible with a young staff who is good natured and kind. Buffalo chicken pizza was good, but lacked some deeper flavor profiles. Also hard to compete with the crust at village trat in Maplewood next door so feels unfair. Will come back if in a pinch.

Sat outside for weekend lunch. Their patio had many umbrellas and tables nicely spaced and very clean. We checked out their pizzas inside before ordering!!! So many options which looked delicious. Regular pies, veggie pies, interesting combos...Regular crust or even a garlic knot crust... So difficult to decide. I ordered the bbq chicken, while others got margarita pies, and gf pizza. Mom ordered a salad with avocado and mozzarella with balsamic dressing which was delicious. Bf got the meatball parm and another niece got a chicken wrap. Everything was tasty. Pizza was awesome with great crust and flavorful sauce which was a little spicy. Overall, my favorite was the bbq pizza!!! Very good service...and a BYOB! Can't wait to return!

My brother moved to town and my wife remember this place she used to get pizza when she was in high school. The staff is very nice. I asked for a custom pepperoni and pineapple slice for my toddler (Yes that's what he likes). I asked for her recommendation for 4 adults and she said large pie and we got the bacon chicken ranch pizza. My toddler almost at the whole slice and it's humongous. We all ate 2 slices and were very satisfied. Will definitely come back again. They also have a causal dining area and a more "formal" restaurant dining room.

They specialize in salad on your pizza. Some people may love that idea, not my first choice, but everything was good.

So, I decided to give it a try for dinner. They don't accept reservations. I arrived around 6:30 pm on a Friday to avoid crazy wait times, but still had to wait ~40 minutes. It didn't feel very long since the waiting area has a mobile wine/beer bar outside & you're able to order drinks from the restaurant as well while you wait. I didn't come with kids, but I saw a lot of families waiting. It was a kid friendly space. The inside was quite dim & it kept getting dimmer as the night progressed. I didn't love this, but it didn't bother me as much either. Pizza was delicious, and the bread tasted very fresh. The pictures show an individual pizza size, which we were told might not be big enough to share, but we made it work amongst 3 girls. Service was fast - I assume since they're trying to free up tables quickly. I'd recommend going at a non-peak time if you don't like to wait, but definitely worth a try even if for takeout!

I recently visited to celebrate my mom's birthday on an early Saturday afternoon. The food was spot-on and the service was very attentive. The atmosphere is nothing too over-the-top, but classy. A solid 'occasion' destination. We were first treated to a bread basket with an assortment of fresh breads and focaccia, with a trio of dips/spreads (a tomato/red pepper-ish dip, butter, and a bean dip). So good, we had to get a second basket! Annnnd onto the apps - we (a party of 6, 2 of which were kids), we ordered/shared the: Tartare di Tonno (Wild tuna tartare with cucumber, homemade chips - $17.95) - amazing, very fresh and believe it had some sort of dijon mustard kick that really took it over the top Calamari Fritti (Fried calamari with marinara sauce - $15.95) - crispy and served with a nice marinara sauce. Polpo alla Griglia (Tender charred Spanish octopus, chick peas, julienne carrots, string beans, radish, parsley, lemon, extra virgin olive oil - $20.95) - the octopus was perfectly cooked, and the chickpeas/carrots, etc., added some delightful brightness to the dish. For my meal , I opted for the trout stuffed with crab meat, capers, roasted potatoes and broccoli. The trout with crab meat was delicious and a nice sized portion as well. For dessert, we all shared the: Apple Cobbler (Served warm with cinnamon ice cream - $13.50) - absolutely divine! Probably the best one of the lot. Baked Alaska (ce cream, almond pound cake and baked meringue - $13.50) - fiery presentation and all, this one did not disappoint! Tartufo Trio (A trio of chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut semifreddo - $13.50). All in all, Basicilo is a neighborhood Italian institution, and rightfully so. Definitely worth keeping in the rotation and considered for occasions.
