To go - Gyro Pita and Sparta Salad (with lamb)
Joe L.

I've come here to dine in, takeout, and ubereats'd countless times now. The food is always amazing and most importantly, they stay consistent with what they do. Their service is as good as their food is and whether I walk into the store or get my food delivered, they make it known that they care about making my experience great. I always appreciate the kind hand written notes on my uber eats deliveries when Im having a long day. Also, if you dont typically like salads like myself, the Sparta Salad will make you think otherwise. So good and Ive yet to find any other place that makes a salad taste as good as this.

So excited that we just added a new place to our takeout rotation! We just ordered 2 gyro pitas (one with sweet potato fries, one with onion rings). So delicious but we were sold before we even opened the bag. The care taken into drawing on the bag and the sweet message showed us we were about to be wowed. Presentation 12/10, Food 10/10.

First time ordering from here with my coworkers and absolutely enjoyed it! I got supreme salad which was so fresh. Adding protein next time might be a good idea. Check out if you are looking for fresh greek salad :)

Ordering takeout during covid-19. Fun time, Sparta makes things easy. Available on grubhub, great timing and delicious food. My boyfriend and I ordered a trio of dips, the tzaziki, hummus and skordalia. I think I like the tzaziki the best. The skordalia tasted a little off to me but everything else was great. Nice presentation as well. We also tried out one shrimp skewer and it was delicious, super tasty and flame grilled. For entrees we got the chicken platter with their delicious rice and a side salad. The salad was hefty and filled with veggies. The rice was perfectly dry and seasoned. Wish I could make this at home. The chicken was flavorful and paired perfectly with their chipotle mayo. Soooo good! I highly recommend it. Also ordered a lamb gyro with extra gyro meat for $2. Worth it. Super tasty, the fresh pita is beyond. Warm and tasty. We also got some olives and for $3 they're delicious and go with the meal really well. I made a last minute decision to get French fries with the gyro and I'm so glad I did. Perfectly seasoned and crunchy. Yumm. Of course some baklava for dessert. It's essential. Stay safe everyone, stay full.

My clients wanted Greek food so picked this spot. I called in my order to a really sweet lady. She was very kind and called me by name when she seen my name on the caller id. I ordered different items and picked the shrimp souvlaki pita for myself. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and the lady knew who I was. She went to pack the food and came back and I paid. It came to about $65. When I got in I ate and the pita was very good. The shrimp was seasoned so well. I will definitely return and had a really good experience.

First time ordering and will definitely be ordering again. The notes on the bag are so sweet and the food is fresh and delicious. I got a house salad, Sparta gyro and chocolate mousse cake!

I hate leaving these type of reviews because I genuinely had high hopes for this place since everyone on yelp was hyping it up. I'm just not sure how you can claim you're Greek when the gyro meat is frozen slabs that you probably just microwaved. The Greek salad had this funky smell to it as well as my husbands Chicken Souvlaki pita, which was minced up chicken. We think the lettuce and the tomatoes went bad which is where the fowl odor came from. If you're looking for good Greek food, stick to Sofia's on the boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights. I wanted to give this place a try and support other businesses but it's difficult doing that when the product is mostly frozen and just reheated. I would love to help the owner out any way I can, I know how bad reviews can affect businesses.

It's the little things that makes this place special...not to mention the bangin food. I've ordered delivery multiple times it's been fantastic. The drivers are so nice and they draw cute things on the bags that just make my whole day. Not to mention the mouth watering tzatziki and pita bread! I usually get the same thing over and over but tonight I ordered two different things (George's combo salad and the Sparta gyro wrap). Delicious and would def order these again.

Passed by this establishment many times located off of Hackensack Street in Wood-Ridge serving Greek cuisine. Reservation was made a day earlier with Ian for tonight's dinner. Upon arrival, the vibe at Sparta Taverna was spot on with pictures of Greece and Greek music playing throughout. My partner, our friends and I were greeted by Shanna ever so friendly and attentive. Complimentary red pepper hummus with mini pita bread wedges began our meal. For appetizers, we got Dolmadakia (Vegetarian grape leaves stuffed with rice) and Mozzarella sticks. The apps were top notch and our stomachs loved us for it. For entrees, we ordered the Sparta Gyro Pita (Gyro meat, fries inside the pita, red onions, tomato, chipotle sauce & tzatziki), Gyro Pita (Lettuce, tomato, red onions, gyro meat & tzatziki), Supreme Salad with chicken (Romaine lettuce hearts, red onions, corn, avocado, red peppers, feta cheese & roasted fried potatoes. All tossed together in their Greek dressing) and Pork Souvlaki Platter accompanied with a Greek salad and roasted potatoes. Most important, the food was amazing and authentic Greek. Everything we tasted melted in our mouths as it was cooked to perfection. One of the best gyro pita sandwiches ever eaten whose tzatziki sauce was thick with a great balance of flavor. The service was unmatched, the price reasonable and it's BYOB. Do yourself a favor and visit this hidden gem that deserves its respect and recognition which we can recommend it.

Sofia's is absolutely among those quality restaurants that should be considered the pride and lifeblood of Hasbrouck Heights. Easily one of the nicest and most family oriented Greek spots I've been to in recent memory. I strongly encourage anyone in the area to give it a shot and bring a group to dine in. The only negative I'd say is that the price can be a little over the top for some of the meal items, however, given the ambiance, the service, the quality and the experiences I've had there, it's a fair price. Bravo

From cooking to salad dressings, Greek olive oil made from lemon, basil, and oregano is their liquid gold. Located on a busy Boulevard in the heart of Hasbrouck Heights, I finally got the opportunity to stop in at this BYOB family-owned/operated establishment. Upon entering for lunch after 4 years, Sofia's Mediterranean Grill, named after the owner's mom, I was greeted by the staff. I got a booth, immediately knowing how they get crowded. The inside evoked a cozy and warm vibe with Greek music playing throughout. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting. Their menu features an array of traditional Mediterranean dishes, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, meats from the grill, seafood cooked various ways, and entrees cooked from the oven. I decided on the Greek salad with grilled chicken. The food was authentic, fresh using the finest ingredients, delicious, and prepared simply, which is exactly what I was looking for. The portion was healthy. The service is always friendly and welcoming. I got to connect with the owner, Nick, a fellow Astorian, to catch up about the old neighborhood. The price was reasonable. If one's craving the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean, then look no further. One doesn't need to book a flight to Greece to enjoy authentic meals.

The rice was plain, which was okay for me. The onions definitely made up for it to combine it together. To top it off I also got fried calamari, it was a little bit chewy overall still had flavor to it. My go to drink was a mint lemonade that they make it into a slushie. Turkish cuisine is a unique combination of flavors, spices, and herbs developed over thousands of years, influenced by the Central Asian nomads and Arabic, Persian, Italian, French, and Eastern European cultures. While New York has some great Turkish food if one knows where to look, most of it leaves some room for improvement. Could Jersey be better? The town of Carlstadt has mainly residential private homes, with a spattering of condos and garden apartments. The main shopping area is all of about three blocks long on both sides of the street. Translated from the Turkish language, meaning sultan, we have come to this family-owned/family-run establishment located on Hackensack Street since 2006 for Saturday dinner. The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant. Upon entering this hidden gem called Hünkar Restaurant as first-timers, my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the staff inside a cozy room, where ethnic pictures and decorations as well as the music all add to the vibe. A great view of the NYC skyline is visible from their enclosed back patio. Their menu features Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and serves alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided on the Kibbeh (Icli Kofte), Calamari (Kalamar), and Cigarette Borek (Sigara Boregi). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Saute (Taouk Sote), Shrimp Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab (Kuzu Sis Kebab), and Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuk Kebab). All Kebab meal accompanied by rice, char-grilled tomatoes, peppers, and a small salad. Warm, fluffy pida bread with a crisp crust started our meal. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and is beautifully presented, from the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional; our server was Akincan "John," the owners' son. The price was comparable to the area with the right portion. We can recommend this place.

The baba ghanoush was everything I love in a good eggplant dip and was a definite win in our book - seasoned, textured, and slightly smokey. They're like elongated loaves of marinated and spiced ground chicken, and delicious with rice and a dollop of yogurt sauce. We preferred these over the chicken kebab, which were just as flavorful but quite a bit drier. Both entrees were served with a grilled tomato and pepper, which were still warm and charred from the grill. They also came with small side salads, with lightly dressed and slightly wilted greens. It's quick, affordable, and iconic. If you've had the cart version - very likely during a lunchtime rush eagerly awaiting a fresh hot-off-the-grill platter while standing in line with salivating hunger, or stumbling around NYC streets late at night in a state of cheerful inebriation - you probably won't be able to retrieve the same satisfaction from the limbic recesses of your brain, as that particular alchemy of anticipation, irresistible street food scent, and a dash of city chaos is not something that can be bottled in a more domesticated experience. So no, the franchise concept into a fast-casual sit-in restaurant won't replicate the Halal Guys of your memory. But what you do get is a more dignified dining experience involving tables, chairs, and climate control. It's the food cart equivalent of realizing one actually appreciates concert venues with seats. Not saying the GA floor pit wasn't fun, but having crossed over into comfortable suburbanite territory, I've made peace with my lack of desire to stand in long lines or eat my food sitting on a curb. We came here after shopping at the Costco located in the same plaza, and ordered a chicken platter, beef gyro platter, waffle fries, and a mango citrus refresher. The meat was a touch cold and the protein portion leans modest, but it was non-greasy, and piled with the salad fixin's and pita bread, made for a balanced and filling meal. The waffle fries are amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, and a good size for the price. And the hot sauce is legitimately spicy (bless!), so get it on the side if you want to moderate the heat level I had no idea Halal Guys grew into a restaurant franchise from its humble street cart days and am glad to know about this place!
