What a find, and right under my nose! How did I miss this place?? It's probably because it's next to a great sushi spot but I'm so glad I finally tried this place, it's amazing!! The long-story-short this is a premium quality Turkish eatery with upscale vibes and service but NOT an upscale price! They offer high quality meals at great prices and that's a lovely thing in these difficult times. Perfect for meat eaters and vegetarians, excellent for a lunch meeting, amazing for date night or date lunch, this place does it all. The music, the food, the service, it all makes you think you should be paying more. We had the hummus, tzatziki, phyllo, falafel, and lentil soup and plenty of pita. Everything was a hit. Lentil soup is so good I'd come back just for more of that. Even carry out! Just needs good bread (or pita!) and you're in for a fine treat. Not your typical lentil soup as it's been blended so it's light and bursting with flavor. When it hit the table I thought "man this is a big portion", after I was done i thought "man, I wish I had a bigger bowl". That's life... moral of the story, order two bowls? Hummus was good! Standard but up to par. Nice portion too. Tzatziki was creamy and cucumbery and garlicky and had a great dill flavor that tied it all together. Falafel was nicely made. Crispy and light, I enjoyed it very much. 6 come in an order and it's more than enough to share. I also had their Merlot, the serving per glass is generous. The wine was tasty. It was a good pairing as well. Alright so my favorite dish was (drumroll please....) ...the phyllo! While the spinach phyllo roll was sold out the cheese phyllo rolls were just so damn delicious! Crunchy, delicate, fresh, the cheese is bursting with flavor and the texture is spot on. This is an absolute home run of a dish, and I would def recommend ordering one or two for the table. Classic, but nicely done. Overall for a ton of vegetarian dishes that filled two stomachs (and a glass of wine) the bill was under $50! Can you believe that??? That's fresh pita, tzatziki, hummus, phyllo rolls, falafel, a glass of Merlot, and two complimentary teas.... less than $50! No excuses anymore for most men not taking their lady's out to a nice dinner. This place makes that possible, and the fine service of our server (name was possibly Eddy) it all deserves 5/5. Stopped in because of a recommendation from a friend in the area. All of her suggestions were great. Hummus is divine. Got a good tang and stands alone but paired with the homemade pita it become an event. They have a Turkish red blend wine that was excellent. Mixed appetizer was a tour through the Mediterranean. We found this gem by accident on our way to Miami. We wandered in one hour before close hungry and tired. What a find. This is the best Mediterranean I've ever had. Completely authentic, huge portions, and fresh. Chicken kabobs (usually dry) were moist and delicious. The appetizer sampler was incredible. Lately, I've been craving Mediterranean food and decided to give Sofra a try. It has been the best restaurant that I have tried so far in Palm Beach County. The food was amazing, huge servings. The price is fairly decent for the serving and quality of food! In Miami, I've ate at similar Michelin rated establishments (Mandolin, Doya) and I would say considering the value and taste Sofra is definitely comparable. Food is delicious and price is good. I totally love the octopus appetizer, with the char-grilled meat tender and smoky, on a bed of arugula and tabouleh. Falafel is good too, made with fresh chickpea. Our only issue is with the waitress. After a long wait, she came and apologized that she forgot to submit our order earlier, but she just did and they would try to rush it. I asked politely if we can get some bread or something to munch on (not that I am greedy but we were starving and it's something a competent waitress would have offered as apology). She said sure... and disappeared. After another long wait (by now almost an hour into our sitting down) we flagged down a waiter (as we couldn't find her) who finally brought us our food. The waitress, however, totally ignore us at this point. I am not sure if she was too ashamed to face us, or she thought we won't tip her, or we broke protocol by talking to another waiter, or why bother if the other waiter would get the tips, but she never ever walked to our table to check on us. Not that it bothered me, but it certainly was not professional. Someone could have rated this one star, but I guess it's just a one-off on a busy weekend, and the food as well as the other staff were pleasant enough that I won't mind coming back. Best customer service ever! My Uber Eats didn't pick up my order and the owner called to let me know they were delayed. I ended up canceling and the owner still brought the food to me after they were already closing, even throwing in a free dessert. Sofra has amazing food, Mediterranean with a Turkish flare. The food is SO good that it picks up a star, even with lousy street parking, even though the guys who run it are rude and impatient to the point of a two -star rating. I hate giving business to someone who, when I walk into their restaurant, or call on the phone to order, make me feel like they're doing ME a big favor by being in their establishment. Yet, with a few exceptions, this is how it rolls with the front-of-the-house guys. Lahmacun is one of their menu items you see less commonly. It was excellent. The Mixed Grilled Platter was a great way to sample many of their grilled dishes. I've not had a bad dish here, which is why their dining room and takeout is so frustrating. Parking is nonexistent. At the head of the Lake Ave downtown, there are maybe 10 spots shared by as many businesses, including four restaurants and a gym! So be prepared to walk back a bit. Equally nonexistent is any shred of grace or charm in the service. If your a New Yorker, or Turkish, probably not a deal breaker. If you like southern hospitality, this ain't it. Hours are also interesting. They keep them, most of the time. I've come to find them closed, pre and post COVID, when it says that they're open. Apologies on the door? Don't count on it. Lebanese Leila, up in West Palm, is still the Mediterranean/Middle East champ. A Sofra in Turkish is a table or tray (even a blanket) on which a meal is served/prepared. I was curious what the name meant so I looked it up. This restaurant on the corner of US 1 and lake avenue has only been open a few months, but it's unique cuisine has already attracted a dinner crowd. The menu has two sides -- one Italian and one side is Turkish. As there are many Italian restaurants here, I'd highly recommend sampling their Turkish/Greek menu. It's in a location that used to be a French Bakery. It's bright and airy inside with lots of large glass windows. We came for lunch and they were not very busy -- only a couple other tables. I wish they had a special lunch menu, but they don't. They said they are thinking of developing one, but have been so busy since they opened, they hadn't had time. That being said (my only quibble), we found enough to sample -- but not over stuff ourselves. We started with an order of babaghanush. It was big enough to share. The eggplant was smoky and chunky with bits of red pepper mixed in. It came with a basket of warm pita cut into small triangles on the side. We added salt and sumac. I'd get this again. Then, we shared an order of Adana kabob. It came with soup, salad, and a choice of rice or bulgur. The soup we chose was their lemon soup (you could also have lentil). This came out first along with our appetizer. It was like a chicken soup with vegetables. We added some squeezed lemon to it. On our colorful main plate was a bit of mixed salad in one corner, a small cup of tzatziki sauce; a mound of rice pilaf, a piece of grilled tomato, a small roasted/grilled yellow pepper. In the middle was the long piece of ground lamb on top of a very thin orange crepe. Everything was good. I'd probably get the meat more well done next time. To drink, we had Turkish black tea. And for dessert, we tried their baklava. It was cut into 4 small pieces. I liked that it wasn't too sticky sweet, the dough was soft, and that the pistachios were still crunchy. We definitely will be back. My husband loves Turkish food. He gets to practice a few of the words he remembers from when he lived in Ankara. And we can explore more of a different to us but delicious cuisine. read more

The food was authentic and amazing but the service was beyond. We ordered a gyro platter with rice (because I am gluten free). When the platter arrived and the chef/owner/manager (?) Noticed I was about to eat the meat he stopped me and said I can't eat the gyro meat because he makes it with egg wash and flour! He went into the kitchen and made me grilled lamb!! I never order octopus because most restaurants don't know how to properly prepare it, but Sofra does an excellent job - their octopus was super tender and fresh! I would literally go back just for that. So good!! And the grilled meats and lamb gyro were equally as great. Yum! Service was 10 out of 10 - genuinely friendly, inviting and attentive. Friends were excited to bring us to this restaurant we were going to show so we arrive 6pm order soup came out then nothing keep telling waitress we had a show final out came our Bronzino at 7:10 pm it was so thin no fish meat we both send it back unfortunately they returned it cooked more. When I heard from a good Turkish Friend (S.O.) that this was one of the best Turkish / Greek Mediterranean cuisine she'd ever tried , we just had to see for ourselves. We got dressed up expecting an evening of fine dining with white linen tablecloths and a Maître d'. What we found was a clean diner style restaurant which left us with a tempered enthusiasm, but we persisted. We asked what some of the more popular dishes were one was the mixed grill and the other astonished me. The Falafel platter was the best, I had ever tried. The Mixed Grill was more than enough for 2 people. We've returned twice and recommended it to others. If Sofra Cuisine were any closer to Pompano Beach, I'd be there at least once a week.
