I booked an appointment with Lisa, described as a curly hair specialist, on January 8. I mentioned my hair type to the receptionist, and she said I didn't need a consultation. For reference, I have thick, curly hair and requested partial highlights and a haircut (long layers with face-framing pieces). The stylist was a little late, and the first hour of the appointment was spent without any work being done while she figured out how to proceed. Throughout the appointment, there were repeated comments about how much hair I have and how unprepared she was, which made me feel uncomfortable. I was even asked to brush my own hair before the haircut, even though it wasn't tangled, something I've never experienced at another salon. I also overheard her speaking with a coworker about how much I would have to pay. The foiling process took significantly longer than expected, and toward the end, the stylist seemed rushed as it was closing time. After washing and swiftly trimming, my hair was left wet, with only the front pieces blow-dried, making it difficult to see the color result. Once I styled it at home, there was little to no visible change in color, and it did not match what I had asked for. My hair had unnecessary chemicals added without a real result. I was charged $400 for four hours, including an hour when no service was performed. I also wasn't aware they charged by the hour until I arrived (their website lists prices per service). The stylist commented, "I am only going to charge you $400," implying it could have been more. I ended up disputing the charge with my bank, which sided with me, as the service did not reflect the time, cost, or expectations. I reached out to the salon to share my concerns, but they were dismissed without addressing the specific issues I mentioned. I've attached a photo showing my hair immediately after the appointment, mostly wet and unstyled. For comparison, the same service elsewhere took under three hours, costed $300, and produced the expected results with my hair being styled and the customer service being great. I would advise clients with thick and/or curly hair to ask more questions about the stylist's experience, timing, and pricing before booking. I would also like to note that this review reflects my personal experience. Any invalidation from the salon does not change how the service was delivered, the customer service I received, or the inaccurate pricing compared to what is listed online. I hope the salon can learn from this feedback to improve their service for future clients, especially those with diverse hair types. read more

Tiara is an artist and she has a client for life now. Background: It had been 2 plus years since I got a real haircut. The last two "professional" cuts I got in the past 6-7 years were terrible experiences and lead me to trim my own hair for years in between. Had a tough time during the pandemic and thought I'd treat myself to a REAL cut. Randomly called and scheduled my cut with Tiara. Expectations: as you'll see in my before pic, I had a big nest of frizzy, dry, unhealthy hair that, frankly, looked kinda disgusting and was all one length. Given my prior experience, I was just hoping for a decent cut that got rid of everything that's unhealthy but left me with enough hair to put up in an elastic...and some layers so I didn't have triangle head. Expectations EXCEEDED: unlike my prior experiences, Tiara listened to me and what I wanted. She has a lot of experience, asked a lot of questions and made some great suggestions. I really felt reassured from the get go. She did an EXCELLENT cut and style that made me feel pretty again - I'd had my hair up for the most part before because it was easy and unmanageable when down. Ruined my hair quality. The cut was uneven, choppy (not the pretty kind, the uneven too much texture kind) and visible color lines on the balayage. Absolutely terrible experience and the worst $380 dollars spent. Worst part is my hair was severely damaged in the process - way more than what was necessary. EDIT: The owner is right - writing a review after such a long time does affect my credulity. I did so for 2 reasons: 1. I hate writing bad reviews. It has got to be an awful feeling to see this about one's work. As requested by the stylist at Soho, I reached out to them directly a week or 2 after the appt. While they "sounded" super willing to help, they actually did nothing. I still thought of letting it go. But a lot of yelpers have steered me away from a bad experience by voicing their opinion. I wanted to pay it forward and let others do what they want with this information. 2. I really needed for someone to show me what AMAZING looked like in order for me to realize what I had was terrible. Clearly the salon is doing something right and has raving reviews. This one is simply mine and it was indeed a terrible experience. That fact stands true whether or not some one agrees. Hope everybody else has a much better experience read more

if I could give a negative review I would. I went in to get highlights and left looking like a clown with my hair completely destroyed. the highlights are uneven, chunky, different colors, and the middle/under part of my hair is all stained and ORANGE. I complained to the hairdresser and she said she would tone it and fix the highlights that were bad . I left with my hair better but still HORRIBLE. not only is my hair extremely brassy and orange, the highlights continue to look horrible and uneven. i am extremely unhappy and frustrated with the fact that the hairdresser let me leave the salon with my hair looking like that, especially the middle sections of my hair. I will be able to receive a refund after many back and forth discussions with the salon and hairdresser But unfortunately the refund will not erase the damage that was done to my hair. read more
