I got my hair done by Shannon Levy (owner) 3 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with the results. I found Sojourn by looking around on Groupon and Yelp. The reviews were so top-notch I knew I had to try it out. When I made the appointment, I knew fixing my hair was going to be a project and that Shannon was in for some work. Last year (my first year in college) I got some box hair dye from the local CVS and dyed my hair black--something I've been told not to do numerous times as black is notorious for latching on to hair and never coming out. When I got tired of the upkeep from having black hair, I decided I was ready to go light again. When I went home, I met up with my aunt who previously worked in a salon and told her I'd like to go lighter. The problem was that part of my hair was black, and the rest was grown-out roots (oh, and a bleached strand with pink residue left over from a previously purple experience). My aunt gave me highlights attempting to lighten my hair. This didn't turn out the best, but I knew it would take some time until my hair would be lightened. Long story short, my aunt left town a couple months ago and again I was left with no one to tend to my mess of a mane. When I showed up at Sojourn, I had highlighted black hair, highlighted natural hair, and non-highlighted, grown-out roots. Shannon took a look at me and I knew she was thinking what I already knew: This is gonna be a project! We talked about what I wanted and how we could realistically achieve it. She confirmed that this could take multiple visits in order to fix the damage that had been done, and I agreed that if that is what it would take then I'm all in. What I liked about Shannon was that she didn't just dive right in and give me highlights trying to make money off me while knowing that I would still be stuck in the same situation, but not wanting to deal with the time it would take to fix this. Shannon took her time and really thought about how to move forward, and even consulted with another stylist to perfect the process. In the end, she ended up adding color to my hair in order to blend the black (so that there wasn't such intense contrast like I had previously had), while also adding balyage highlights so that I wouldn't walk out without getting a little of what I want (which was to go lighter). In other words, I walked out with lighter AND darker hair. Lighter because that's what I requested, and Darker because that is what was necessary to correct the black color without actually going black. All in all, I left extremely pleased and will definitely be back! I'd also like to comment on the pleasantness of Shannon, the stylists, and staff at Sojourn. Every single person I talked to that was employed at Sojourn was extremely friendly and welcoming and it really felt like I was talking to family. This is a big deal because I'm the type of person who prefers to sit in silence at salons in order to avoid the awkward, inauthentic small talk, but these ladies really made me feel at home. I would 100% recommend Sojourn for your next visit. Give it a try! read more

I just had my hair done for the 5th time by Shannon, the salon owner, and she is truly wonderful at what she does. What I appreciate most about Shannon is that she does not upsell you. I drive from Simi Valley to Ventura just to see Ashly. I'm very thankful I found this gem since I'm VERY picky with my hair and have high maintenance color. Within just 2 visits she got my color to be EXACTLY the way I wanted it to be. My hair was totally fried and the color was extremely terrible after seeing another stylist and Ashly made it beautiful and manageable. I went from a brassy "what the hell shade is this" brown/blonde to deep dark red, and tamed my fried hair with a Brazilian blowout treatment. Bought a groupon after searching for a new hair salon. Called in and spoke Sue and let her know I really needed a makeover. Haircut a spring color and she booked my appointment with Shannon, owner of the salon. She assured me that Shannon with her 25 years of experience would help me find the right look. I always feel bad for whoever does my hair because I have A LOT and it is thick. I was greeted warmly and offered something to drink while I waited for Shannon. After a quick consultation with Shannon we decided on cutting my hair and losing about 6" and adding some warm ombré coloring. I was not impressed with this salon at all. I walked in with no greeting even though there were two people standing at the door, one of them happened to be the salon owner Shannon who did my hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and ended up getting something completely different. I asked for caramel highlights and she gave me highlights that didn't blend whatsoever and looked orange/copper at the end of the dye session. I also asked for a haircut with layers to help give my hair some volume. She ended up giving me a trim and it looked like she barely cut any hair off at all. I ended up paying an additional amount that cost more than the groupon I purchased. Should have just saved my money and gone to someone that would have listened to what the client wants because I ended up going to another salon to get it all fixed. read more
